Chapter 141: Please wait for me

Chapter 141: Please wait for me

"I will be safe," I nodded with a smile. "But I need you to promise to return to me..." To our kids. I wanted to add but didn’t. Instead, I placed both hands on the sides of his face, and kissed him, pouring out the unsaid words, and making sure he knew just how much I felt.

He placed his head on my forehead, to regain his breath after the kiss, sending out a calming dose of his pheromones to soothe me. I closed my eyes, inhaling the sweet orange smell as I tried not to cry. It feels like I felt when I left Storm at Dark Moon.

"And no matter what you do, never agree to whatever my mother might wish to talk you into." He kissed my forehead, "I will return to you, Brys. Please wait for me."

I stood on the outskirts of the town with all the members of the royal family — I was shocked to see Theo in attendance — as we watched Storm enter the forest. The darkness loomed behind the tall trees, making the forest look ominous.

Storm waved at me and with a wink, he turned and entered into the forest until he gradually got swallowed by the trees. Only then did the queen break out in uncontrollable tears, watching her son go on a quest he might or might not return from.

I watched the place he got in through, feeling a bit odd as I stared at the trees. I felt nothing but a numbing cold as I watched the forest, knowing that this might be the last time I saw him.

"Come on, it’s time to go," Ray nudged me, bringing me back to the present.

I blinked.

I don’t know how long I stood watching the forest, but when he startled me with his words, I noticed that we were the only ones standing on that spot. The others had returned to the Palace, while Ray stood next to me, keeping to the promise he made to Storm—to keep me safe.

"He wouldn’t want you to be out here when you should be in," he continued to say, trying to get me to follow him when he noticed that I wasn’t budging from my spot.

"Tell me again, Ray. What will happen should I follow him?" I asked, not looking at the person I was asking, but at the forest in front of me, trying to know whether I should follow him or not.

Ray sucked in a breath before he placed both hands on either side of my shoulders, causing me to look up at him.

"You need to listen to me, Brys. Going in there is like a suicide mission. You will never return because the forest won’t let you take more than ten steps in," he said in a grave tone.

"Has anyone tried it before?"

If not, how did they get to know that no one aside from those with Alpha blood can go in through the forest?

"Numerous people to count. Only a few were able to return but scarred for the rest of their life. You’ve got to listen to me, Brys. The forest is not for you."

I didn’t say a word to that as I stared hard at the forest before I turned and headed down the paved way, back to the palace that held no attraction to me.

Deep down, I already know what to do.

May met me the moment I entered the palace. His emotionless face brightened when his eyes landed on me.

"Brys!" He closed the distance between us with a smile. "Oh my God, Brys. I have good news for you!"

Ray, who was behind me, snickered but didn’t say a word. A glance back was enough to catch him rolling his eyes at May.

"And what’s the good news about?"

Though not in the mood to entertain him, I had to ask, knowing he wishes for me to do that.

"The latest Blood Massacre comic is out! I got the limited edition! Do you wish to see it?" He asked, looking eager for me to nod.

However, before I could reply to his question, Ray stepped in front of me, blocking his view of me.

"I’m afraid, he won’t follow you, my prince. Forgive me for this, but I’m strictly on orders from your brother, Prince Storm," he said, sounding not too sorry at all. There is no denying the trace of anger in his tone.

"Oh, is that true?" May tried to sidestep him, but Ray blocked his path. "Get out of my way, you low life!" He growled at Ray, who only froze for a moment.

"We need to leave, my prince," he turned to face me as he took my hand in his and started leading me out, looking like he didn’t wish to spend any time with May. I can tell from the way he ground his teeth sharply that he’s barely restraining himself from harming the prince.

"Brys, will you be chanced tomorrow? We will see..."

"No, he won’t!" Ray answered before I could reply, dragging me down the hall and towards Storm’s room.

"Let’s meet the day after tomorrow!" He called after me.

"Don’t dream about it."

Ray didn’t stop until he reached Storm’s door, past the statue-like guards, who didn’t so much as bat an eye when we passed.

"If you need anything, don’t hesitate to ask the guards to —"

"Are you leaving?"

"No, I’m not," he sighed, running his fingers through his hair. "If only you will let me finish," he gave me a look.

"Okay, what do you want to tell me?"

"If you want something, you can ask any of the guards to relay it to me. I will —"

"Why don’t you stay here with me?" I opened the door and stepped in, but he stood, frozen on the spot.

He gulped, running his fingers through his hair as he gaped at me as if I said something wrong.

"What’s wrong with you? Why are you standing there? Come in," I gestured for him to come in, but he shook his head.

"Storm will kill me if I do that."
