Chapter 139: A curious Alpha

Despite how much I asked her about that, she didn’t reply to my question. Instead, she diverted to asking me about my favourite food.

All the questions she asked were peculiar, even to the point of asking me which I preferred between the throne room and the dining room.

I tried to answer to the best of my abilities because of Fan who kept on laughing every chance he got.

I have forgotten how much he gets on my nerves because it has been long since that happened. However, having him with me today gave me the desire to commit murder, and I would have done it had he not left when he did.

Spent after the conversation with the queen, I was too tired to go over to the dining to eat with them, so I ordered Ray to get me dinner, which I ate before I had my bath.

Storm hasn’t returned from wherever it is that he went to, making me wonder where the hell he might have gone to.

He really surprised me this afternoon when he didn’t follow me to the prison they put Kim in. I thought he would go with me, but he didn’t. It can only mean that it’s either he’s not concerned about me or he has finally learned to trust me — which I doubt.

I was going through the comic May gave to me when the door opened, and Storm strode in. He only spared me a glance before he went over to his bed and plopped down on it with a sigh.

At first, I didn’t pay much attention to him, but that was until he started withing controllably. I closed the comic I was reading and turned to face him.

"What’s wrong with you? Why are you sighing like an old grandpa?"

He peeked an eye open before he closed it back, sighing once more.

"Is it about the quest you are embarking on?"

And once more, he ignored me, acting as if I weren’t standing in front of him.

I would have also let him be, but I was curious to know why he was sighing. I guess Fan has given me a dosage of his poke-nosing ways.

"So, your mother invited me to the garden today," I suddenly said, trying to start a conversation.

He froze at those words, causing me to raise a brow at the reaction I wasn’t expecting.

"What did she say to you?" He suddenly asked, opening his eyes to look at me.

I sighed, turned and returned to my chair, and curled up, taking my comic with me.

Two can play the game.

I have no reason to reply to his questions since he ignored mine. One good turn, they say, deserves another. And since he’s snubbing me, we can all do that.

"Brys?" He sat up on the bed, "What did you talk to my mother about?"

I turned to look at him before I returned my attention to the comic I was reading, acting as if he didn’t ask me any questions at all.

"I asked you a damned question, Brys!" He growled, rising from his chair as he covered the distance between us. "What the hell is wrong with you?!" He stopped in front of me and made to rip my comic off my hand, but I shot a dark glare at him.

"What has gotten into you? Did my mother say anything to you?!"

"And what do you think your mother said to me?!" I closed the comic and raised my face to look at him. "Why do you badly wish to know what I spoke with your mother about?"

He heaved, pinching the bridge of his nose in frustration, "I just wish to know if she told you that we...."

"We?"

He sighed, "forget I said anything." He turned and returned to the bed, sitting on it as he faced me. He didn’t lie back on it, and neither did he resume sighing.

I picked my comic, to continue from where I stopped, engrossed with the story. It was so much like the Asylum, but with a different plot that makes you eager to know what the end will be.

"Did she say anything concerning her proposals?" He asked again, trying to know what I spoke to his mother about.

"She told me more than that," I leafed through the comic because I knew he wouldn’t let me focus on it. I will have to read it whenever he leaves the room.

"What?! What exactly did she ask you?" He looked..... Scared?

I furrowed my brows at him, trying to know why he had such an expression on his face. What could it be that will make him look that way?

What is it that he discussed with his mother? If only I knew what that was, I would have an upper hand on him.

"Relax, she didn’t tell me anything," I shrugged, not ready to lie since I didn’t even know what he was talking about.

"But you went to the garden!" He insisted, looking at me with a raised brow. "What did you discuss with her?"

"You can ask her if you so badly wish to know," I shrugged once more, letting him know that I was not in the mood for any question and answer with him.

"Did she say anything about a wedding?" He asked, looking like he was not ready to call quits until he gets to know what I spoke to his mother about. He rose from the bed and got closer to me once more.

"Wedding?" I placed my right hand under my jaw, pretending to be in deep thought, while I was only trying to get a raise from him because I knew I would. "I think she said something about —"

"Don’t even think about it!" He placed both hands on either side of my shoulders and shook me. "You need to reject anything she offers!"

And what is she offering?

I wanted to ask, but instead, I pretended to be deep in my thoughts, knowing how much it was getting on his nerves.

Whatever he discussed with his mother, I think it’s something he doesn’t wish for me to be privy to.

"Well, since the offer is good, I will ..."

He shut me up by kissing me.
