Chapter 67: Mock Subjugation [5]
Perhaps it was because the winds didn’t die down. The flames couldn’t be put out through ordinary means, so the currents only enhanced their flow.
But the majority of it was because of Raymond’s power.
It was at a level that made Gio question what level that man was truly at.
VOOOOOOOOOM!
Flames filled the world. They erupted into the sky from Raymond’s body like they were being spit from a geyser and spread out like they were swallowing everything.
That was certainly not what Gio asked for, but it didn’t matter.
The purpose was accomplished regardless.
WHOOOSH!
The flames reached Yhien almost too fast, crawling up its frozen body and consuming it whole. The skin that had been exposed by Jason’s strike was charred black, and the open wounds across its body were closed shut, prepped to breed infections.
GRAAAAAH–!
Yhien roared once more. It flapped its wings powerfully even while enduring the pain and pushed wind comets wildly into the surroundings.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!|
Everyone on the ground team was forced to evade those bomb-like attacks. Raymond kept his flames encompassing its body and turned the sky around it into something that looked like a sun, but if the rest of them couldn’t act, they would lose their opportunity.
Gio gritted his teeth and looked across the screens.
Jax and Amaya were in the worst possible position, so trying to get their help was stupid. They were too busy trying not to get hurt to do anything else.
Jason and Ulver were too far away. Since they’d just made large moves as well, they couldn’t be mobilized for a killing strike.
Raymond was already doing his job and Mirei was still inactive. The only one left was–
Gio didn’t have time to do anything.
"Someone" acted before he could.
The world rumbled. The jungle below Yhien had almost been leveled at this point, but that same leveled land...
The land rose. The land gained a mind of its own and changed its form, becoming a tidal wave that surged into the sky.
The edge of that wave grew. Its momentum shifted, rapidly terraforming the world to create spires of rock and metal that pierced upward into Yhien’s body.
SHIK!
A gruesome squelch rang out, alerting everyone of the result of that movement. As Gio looked for the source of the unbelievable situation, his eyes were forced away by a blur streaking over the horizon.
CAAAAAW–!
Right, there wasn’t only one monster on the battlefield.
Yhima, who had already been wounded fatally, spiraled back towards its enemy.
It knew that it would die, but before it died, it would kill the successor.
That way, even in death, it would have honor.
Yhien watched with widened eyes. It pushed its wings to move so it could dodge, but that was no longer an option.
There was a spire of earth impaling it and anchoring it to the ground.
It wanted to do something big again. It wanted to spread its control into the world and show these bugs why it was Yhia’s successor.
But right now, none of that was an option for it.
It could only sit still and watch as the enemy approached.
BANG!
Yhima’s body slammed into Yhien. The two birds fell out of the air together, crashing to the ground.
Even as they fell, Yhima dug its beak into Yhien’s flesh, tearing out chunks of its skin and muscle. It put up a final stand worthy of admiration, but it put itself in the worst position to do so.
It fell on top of Yhien as they struck the ground.
And immediately, the larger monster opened its mouth and let out a guttural roar.
GROOOOAAAAAH–!
A beam of energy was released from its mouth. That beam incinerated Yhima’s head in a single second.
It wouldn’t have been possible before, but with the monster so close to death, its defensive ability was almost completely ruined.
Yhien stood up, using its wings to support itself onto its feet.
It limped forward, surveying the world around it.
There wasn’t a place left to hide.
Every member of the team clearly entered its sight.
However, was that really a bad thing?
"Zephyr, you’re seeing what I’m seeing, right?" Jax asked, his voice barely above a whisper in the tense atmosphere.
"I do," Gio responded without hesitation.
He saw it well.
Yhien’s right wing had been torn apart when it was pushed to the ground.
"Natalia?"
Gio only said a single word, but it was enough.
"I’ve been focusing on keeping it active. It’s ready at any time."
"We’re back on track. Everyone still remember phase 2? We start now."
It took a lot of improvising to get to this point, but that was the end of it.
The river was still flowing even if large chunks of its water had been stolen and displaced. It cut through the destroyed jungle as a clear dividing line, and on its side was a trap that had been set many minutes ago.
Yhien was only several tens of meters away from that trap.
And now that it was on the ground, the Blue Steel Squadron could finally show its true power.
They acted before Yhien could break the silence.
Whoosh!
All of a sudden, Jax and Natalia were behind its back with their blades drawn.
Boom! Boom!
On one side, slashes of darkness cut through the air and slammed against the monster. On the other, two swords made of blue light burned brightly and were propelled fast enough to become invisible as they cut divots into the same creature.
GRAAAH–!
Yhien spread its body, pushing the two of them away. A great movement of wind dropped down from the sky and slammed into the ground around the monster, making it impossible for anyone to approach.
Anyone that wasn’t heavier than the force.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
They were not explosions, but the sounds of footsteps. Amaya arrived in front of the wind barrier, her body two feet taller and many times wider than it was before. Behind her was the image of a massive elephant beast made of aura.
BOOM!
She took a single step into the barrier and made the world rumble. Then she took another, and another.
Yhien glared at her and shot wind comets in her direction. Naturally, she was too heavy to dodge, but Amaya chose this beast for its defensive qualities.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
The comets struck her one by one, causing great pain to spread through her body. Still, she didn’t take real damage. She could continue forward.
BOOM!
She took another step, almost reaching the monster beyond.
SKREEEE–!
And as it opened its mouth to blast her with an energy beam...
BANG!
A man crashed down from above and landed on its head. He grabbed its neck and discharged waves of electricity into its body, sending it into a screeching fit of pain.
Approaching Grade 4, Yhien was a monster that could lay waste to cities easily if nobody powerful tried to stop it.
But there would almost always be people trying to stop it.
This time, it met a team that was more than strong enough to end its existence. It met a team that was able to list it as a target for a mock subjugation.
Unless they were faithfully following terrible orders, it was almost impossible for such a team to fall against it.
The orders they were following this time...
It was a little hard to call them terrible, wasn’t it?
