Chapter 68: Mock Subjugation [6]

Chapter 68: Mock Subjugation [6]

The ball was securely back in Gio’s court, and now that he had it, he didn’t plan to lose it again.

His orders flew out so fast that even the operators in the room with him were stunned.

"Natalia, cover Jason."

"Ulver, move around and support Amaya. Amaya, Storm Leopard. Fry it’s left leg."

"Keep the back open. Raymond, get there and force it to move."

He watched every move of the battle yet somehow still kept space in his mind for the information actively being transmitted to him.

"There are movements from the south. A couple curious beasts will enter the area soon. Jax, deal with them when they get here."

"Clouds are gathering at an alarming rate nearby. It might be a sign that Yhia is nearby. We need to end this quickly."

Did he have five brains keeping track of everything?

It was an unbelievable performance from a child, one that made this operation look far simpler than anyone thought it could be.

Following his orders, the team pressured Yhien towards the river. Even grounded, the monster was by no means weak.

BOOM!

Huge blasts of wind and rays of energy were still shot from its mouth constantly. Every time it flapped its remaining wing, the winds of the world came together and created a massive wave that forced everyone away.

It was putting up a fight, trying to find itself an opportunity to leave:

In fact, nothing it did was in direct confrontation with the enemy. It was instead doing everything in its power to keep them as far away as it could.

But the opening it was looking for no longer existed.

Even if it could outsmart Raymond and Ulver, outspeed Jason and Amaya, and outmaneuver Natalia and Jax...

There was still one member of the team remaining.

"Alice."

It was said in Gio’s voice.

"Lock him in."

She was visible on the screen that showed Raymond’s camera feed.

Right. This was the appearance Gio remembered, one much less eye-catching than her form as Mirei.

Medium-long brown hair, sharp yet delicate features, and the eyes of a warrior.

That person, who responded to the name Alice, raised her leg into the air and dropped it into the ground.

And that’s when that happened again.

The earth became a weapon.

No, this time, the earth became a cage. It rose around the destroyed part of the jungle, entrapping both the ground team and Yhien within.

The camera feed from the twinjets showed the sheer size of the dome that was created.

It was hard to tell if this was really power that belonged in a fight against a Grade 5 monster.

’Alice...’

Gio still wasn’t entirely sure about her, but he was able to glimpse her existence just moments before Yhima stole the show.

She was standing near Raymond even before she turned into her current form. Gio wasn’t paying enough attention to see it happen, but once she made her move, he immediately went to find the source of the disruption.

Finding out it was caused by a member of the team was the greatest possible news he could have received.

Mirei was inactive for almost the entire battle, but Alice was now present.

As Raymond said, she had an ability like combat alchemy that allowed her to control material things. Just...for her to cause such a massive displacement in the world so easily...

Gio shook the thought away. Since she was an asset, he could learn the rest later.

For now, he pretended as if he wasn’t surprised by or questioning her existence at all. He learned a long time ago that faking nonchalance in times like these was usually a good idea.

Nevertheless, it was clear that she had a relative understanding of events from the way she easily followed his orders. No words came from her mouth, but one certainly couldn’t fault her execution.

She created the cage and the prods that pushed Yhien into its deathbed. The rest of the team acted properly as well.

The flames in the back made it impossible to retreat. The two blade-wielding assassins on the team constantly put pressure on it and made it waste its precious energy. The two tankier members protected the rest and allowed them to do their jobs properly, and the mental manipulator of the group also put in hard work.

Yhien found itself unable to stop moving forward. No matter what it did, it couldn’t convince its legs to move in any other direction.

But anything was fine as long as it could escape.

Its eyes were forced into constant motion to avoid death, but it kept its gaze on the sky whenever it could.

There was only one entity in the world that could guarantee its safety at this moment.

And Yhien knew that if it was in such a disadvantageous position, that entity was already present.

If there was really no other choice, it knew it could reach out to that entity.

But it also knew what the consequences of doing so were.

Yhien battled with the dilemma of how it should move as it did its best to leave the area of influence of its enemies.

WHOOOSH!

A wave of wind knocked away the assassins, making sure they could never return to the battlefield.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

Wind comets slammed into Jason and Amaya, throwing them into the distance.

The flames that came from behind formed a wall that couldn’t be crossed, leaving only a single direction of escape, but they were no longer growing or spreading.

GRAAAAAAAH–!

Yhien roared again, pushing its claws into the ground and lunging forward. It ran as fast as it could run. It was finally free. All it needed to do was break through the cage of earth and it could escape.

All it needed to do was cross the river and–

Yhien arrived at the riverbank.

VOOOM!

A huge wave of fire suddenly came from the north, forcing it to flee along the bank as it looked for a chance to jump across to the other side.

It raised its remaining functional wing and flapped it in the air. It could not summon a storm of tornados without taking time to prepare, but if it was just enough to give itself a boost...

WHOOSH!

As if it was made of lightning, a tornado slammed down from the sky and connected on the ground. The wind propelled Yhien to the other side of the river, and as it landed, the tornado pushed towards the wave of flames, empowering itself as it razed through the jungle.

With that, nobody could chase it.

With that, it had won.

With that–

VOOOOM!

A low, rumbling hum resounded through the space.

Yhien’s eyes immediately widened, but it was too late to react. It could only move instinctively, and its instinctive reaction...

It tried to fly, but it no longer had that ability.

A black circle of shadows materialized around it in a single second. Lines drew themselves within its form, creating a complicated yet beautiful pattern.

Chains of darkness sprung up from the earth and clasped around Yhien’s legs, dragging it down and keeping it in place.

Shadows crawled up, slowly and carefully encompassing every part of the monster like a mold.

GRAAAAH–!

GREEAAAH–!

CAA–

Yhien cried out in panic as it tried to fight the darkness. In that moment, it cried for the presence of its mother, but the earthen dome encasing the world refused to let those cries reach the outside world.

They were forced shut by the hands of darkness itself as it climbed into the monster’s beak.

And when Yhien was completely encased in a dark cast, Natalia made her move.

SHIK!

The darkness instantaneously morphed into a mass of ten thousand spikes.
