Chapter 212: Two Paths [2]

Chapter 212: Two Paths [2]

The first time Gio visited the lab was two weeks after the start of the school year. He was properly acclimated to his new schedule and had a relative understanding of how he wanted to organize his days.

"So, what brings you here today?"

Farrah greeted him with a question at the elevator he rode up to the lab.

She was never the type to care about pleasantries when she didn’t need to. It was nice to jump straight into business sometimes.

"Why else would I be here?" Gio responded as he stepped out and joined her, allowing her to lead him through the lab’s halls.

"I’m here to work."

"Is that so? Did you have something else you wanted to use my lab for? The last time..."

She gave him a sidelong glance as if she knew something, but said nothing more.

Gio frowned. He was sure he cleaned up properly and left no traces. If she saw him through the security footage, the most she’d know was that he was trying to fuse a Bloodline Sequence, but even that was an important piece of information.

Regardless, his current reasoning was unrelated. He moved past it and acted like she didn’t say it at all.

"You could say that there are things I want to use your lab for, but it’ll be a benefit to the both of us," he said.

"Oh?" She responded with some interest in her tone.

"And what kind of benefits can you give me?"

"What else? Money and acclaim. I’m not going to offer anything unrealistic."

He spoke sarcastically, but Farrah could sense the undertones in his voice.

’I’m inclined to be disbelieving.’

He was clearly planning to offer her something with a hook like that, and as someone who studied the world, she never believed anything that couldn’t be backed by facts and evidence.

Naturally, her immediate judgement of a child who made bold statements would be disbelieving.

Then again, it was the same the first time Gio visited the lab, and he managed to prove her wrong back then.

’Therefore, I’ll give you a chance.’

"For now, come to my office. We can save the work for after you’ve said everything you want to say."

Gio nodded and followed her to the room, seating himself in front of her before continuing his offer.

She was correct.

Gio thought for a long time about how to approach this side of his plan. Sequencing was more straightforward. Regardless of differences in thoughts and opinions, anything could be proven with strength and strength alone.

This world was different. It was covered in dark shadows filled with people who specialized in moving through darkness.

If Gio came out with technologies, serum formulas, and other innovations too far outside the current norms, he would become a target rather than a saint.

He had to slowly prepare the world for the larger changes to come.

"There are two offers I want to present to you. One of them is related to medicine, and the other to technology as a whole. Which one would you like to hear first?"

She had already decided to entertain him. Farrah wouldn’t back out now.

"Let’s start with medicine," she said.

Her lab was mainly focused on medicine, after all. There were other divisions of Taurus-Rauth related to technological innovation that she had more than just a few connections to. If his ideas were viable, she could make all of them possible despite the fact.

Gio nodded and presented his plan.

"Have you ever heard of Sequence Enhancers?"

Bloodline Enhancers were common. Sequence Enhancers were an entirely different thing.

Farrah’s expression fell.

"You’re talking about Hvper?"

Hvpr, pronounced "Hyper," was an illegal substance that began circulating throughout the world many years ago. It was, as Gio said, a Sequence Enhancer.

"Hvper is a poison. It draws out the vitality that exists in blood and forces Sequences to recognize it as a secondary source of energy. Essentially, it gives a huge temporary boost to the abilities of a Sequence, but it takes years off the Sequencer’s life as consequence," Gio said, leaning forward.

"That’s not a Sequence Enhancer. It’s a deal with the devil. I’m talking about something real."

Farrah’s frown only deepened. The idea of enhancing Sequences existed for as long as Sequences did. The problem was that there wasn’t a way to do so without extreme repercussions.

"I know what you’re thinking, but just hear me out. I’m not trying to pitch drugs to you."

He knew where her doubt came from. Farrah, like the rest of the world, could not see where the end goal was.

After all, "Sequence Enhancers" as the world thought of them were temporary buffs that could boost one’s abilities in battle. Nobody ever thought about permanently enhancing Sequences simply because even the building blocks of that theory hadn’t been discovered.

Permanent Sequence Enhancers existed. They couldn’t be introduced immediately, but the first step was to create a stable temporary enhancer.

"I only have theories that have been impossible to test until now. I want you to test them with me so you can see for yourself if I’m lying or not. If I’m telling the truth and you see the potential of what I’m presenting..."

"...we can handle the rest from there, right?" Farrah said, finishing his sentence.

"Yeah. At that point, I won’t need to do all of this convincing. You’ll be convinced by the facts."

The best way to convince her would have been to bring existing results that she could use to form an opinion.

However, without them, he could only try to convince her through words.

She stared into his eyes for a moment, her own gaze almost emotionless. It was a look of judgement that tried to deem whether or not he was someone worth trusting for a second time.

"How much of my money are you planning to spend?"

"If everything works out from the start, it’ll only be around 50,000 up front. If we find something good and invest in research, maybe another 500,000."

"How fast do you expect us to reach the production stage?"

"Between three and six months after we’re done with research. There’s no reason to delay the release more than what’s necessary to go through all the legal stuff."

"Hmm..."

Farrah hummed with much more thought in her tone than before. The numbers weren’t bad. Every expenditure she’d have to make aside from the first 50,000 would only be made after she was already on board with the idea.

Therefore, it was not a matter of supporting something stupid and throwing away time and money.

It was a matter of giving someone a chance for the small sum of 50,000 credits.

Farrah looked down at her watch. It was almost eight o’clock in the evening. Her work day was technically already over, so she was already working on personal time.

"Tch."

She clicked her tongue.

’No matter how annoying that guy is, I have to trust his recommendations. He’s never been wrong before, and this boy has shown some considerable talent in the past year.’

Raymond’s backing and Gio’s skills. These two things came together as the "facts" and "evidence" that allowed Farrah to give him the benefit of the doubt.

With a sigh, she shook her head and refocused her attention on him.

"Let’s put that to the side for the moment."

It sounded like a rejection.

It was not one.

"You came with two ideas," Farrah said.

"So pitch me the second one as well before we continue."
