Transcendent Gene
Chapter 213: Two Paths [3]

Chapter 213: Two Paths [3]

Sequence Enhancers were just innovative enough to be on the cusp of the current generation’s knowledge. They would also open up the way for Gio to enter the world of researchers and those who called themselves alchemists.

When it came to technology, he had to find a different niche.

Rather than a specific innovation, he presented Farrah with a theory that could be applied across the board.

His second idea was much easier to prove and support, as all it took was math and equations.

Farrah got him a whiteboard, and he expertly pretended like he knew what he was doing while copying down formulas he had saved in his head.

In essence, it was a theory that maximized the efficiency of energy transfer between machines that could later be interpolated into a theory that improved energy efficiency across the board.

By making it so humans used less Aether to do more, he could open the way to plenty more inventions.

It wasn’t just about him, either. Once these two things went into the world and were studied by other researchers, plenty of innovations would be made by the world’s own geniuses, bringing forth a revolution.

Gio just had to provide the sparks when he needed to. He only needed to help them take the most important steps.

Farrah had no place to doubt the second idea. She didn’t have a lot of knowledge on the things he was speaking about, but she knew enough to say that there was definitely veracity to his thinking.

It was worth sending his calculations to her connections to see what they thought. If he really was on the cusp of something massively innovative, she had to change the way she saw him.

"I won’t turn you down, but I’m also not going to accept anything immediately."

She had to make sure that she didn’t look too easy to convince.

"However, we still have time left in the day, and 50,000 credits is nothing to me. Let’s do some testing."

Gio grinned.

"Perfect."

It was all he could ever ask for. Results spoke louder than words, after all.

’And when she’s finally convinced that the idea is viable, I can put the final nail in the coffin.’

In other words, he could rope his father into this matter and gain some funding from that side as well.

With confidence in his steps, Gio joined Farrah on a journey to a separate lab space.

Because everything he said was not a theory and instead a proven fact from the future, he already knew what was bound to happen.

It was only a matter of watching it all go down.

***

Gio left the lab with a smiling expression on his face. One didn’t need to guess what happened after he and Farrah entered the lab space.

A "Sequence Enhancer" as he pitched it was not produced. Gio couldn’t give her too many results up front, after all.

However, they got close enough.

Gio was able to outline the processes that Farrah needed to follow. Most of the resources she needed were already present. Even if she couldn’t gain access to a complete product immediately, she could see where it was.

"This idea...did you come up with it on your own?" Farrah asked.

Gio responded with a vague expression.

"I won’t say I didn’t have help, but I can confirm to you that these theories don’t exist anywhere but in my head and the heads of others with similar goals."

If Farrah took his offer, she would be the one breaking the market with this new discovery.

She looked at the data she’d accumulated through her tests.

Naturally, she couldn’t do any testing on live organisms without preparation. For now, extrapolating the data had to be enough.

Her eyes narrowed as she went over her thoughts before she finally nodded and accepted the facts.

"Alright."

She gave her confirmation.

"I’ll entertain this, and if it becomes something..."

She didn’t need to say the rest. If it became something, she and Gio would have a far more long-standing and meaningful partnership than they did now.

The seeds were in place. Now, Gio only had to visit the lab to help Farrah along before he could start gaining some footing in the scientific society.

A new daily task was added to his schedule as his days continued.

He went to school, learned and trained, went to the lab, and then returned to the school to train on his own before sleeping.

He made sure to keep watch of the students around him to see if there was anyone he could approach. When he wasn’t busy and had the time to hang out with either Neriah or Serene, he heard from them about the students he couldn’t see with his own eyes.

There were a few people he’d have to start scouting soon enough.

But that would have to wait.

A week passed after he started visiting the lab. Like he did every day, he arrived at his practical training class in the training grounds outside the school.

The professor for this class was named Tieren Farris. He was a rough-cut man with scruffy brown hair and a clean face. His body was built like he used to be in the military, but his demeanor was quite casual.

He was the kind of person who never seemed to be interested in anything until he was. Nobody would ever expect him to be a fighter until he raised his fists.

Tieren paced the field in front of the twenty students in his class.

"Today is a little special," he said, scanning them with his gaze.

"It’s been two weeks since we properly started this class. I’ve been watching over the lot of you, and I can at least say that you won’t die immediately if you go out and fight on the field. Some of you..."

His eyes locked with Gio’s for a moment before moving on.

"...are even better than that, but none of you are worse. Basically, it’s time to start doing what you joined this class for."

Everyone around Gio made sounds of excitement. It was only natural. He took this class because it was called "Practical Training," but the rest of them took it because of its reputation.

This course was famous because it was absolutely necessary, yet also one of the most fun classes at the institute.

Because in this class...

"Today, we start mock explorations. For the next month, you’ll be moving between simulated Riftworlds, where you’ll learn what it’s like to fight monsters in their home territory."

Usually, it would’ve started a week earlier. However, with Gio in this class, some discussions had to take place before they could decide whether to go through with the original curriculum or not.

"The evaluation process will be stricter this year, but you still have the same chances. If you do well enough inside, you’ll have a shot to enter a real Riftworld with me for experience."

In the end, they had no choice but to let it be despite the presence of a first year. They trusted Tieran to make sure nothing went wrong.

Gio didn’t know this was going to happen. He didn’t expect the words that came out of the professor’s mouth.

However, they were words that filled him with anticipation.

’We can enter real Riftworlds as students...?’

Entering a Riftworld required one to have the proper permits and identifications, which couldn’t be accessed until one had reached the legal age of 18.

If Gio could touch the inside of the monsters’ paradise at this stage, many paths would open up for him.

’This is good.’

He was a bit worried about improving without spending absurd amounts of money on boosters and enhancers.

That worry was gone now.

His thoughts drifted as Professor Farris continued his explanation, and before he knew it, the class was already on its way to the simulation area.

The inside of a Riftworld was still a mystery to Gio, outside of what he’d seen in footage.

He truly couldn’t wait to see it all with his own eyes for the first time.
