Chapter 156: Bloodline Inheritance [4]

Time ticked by in the lab as Gio focused wholly on the creation of his Bloodline Sequence.

As he came closer to completion, it became a question of why he was able to do something like this when humanity couldn’t.

Naturally, his knowledge from the future helped, but what about that knowledge gave him the edge here?

He was using the same machines as people of this era and the same materials as well. Why, if Farrah tried this herself, would she have failed?

The answer was theory.

Theories that did not yet exist put together materials that humans currently thought were compatible. Through new techniques, new possibilities emerged.

It wasn’t that humans didn’t have the means to create Equinox Grade Sequences. In the future, it wasn’t done because it was already too late by the time humanity accrued so much knowledge.

If an Equinox Grade Sequence was created, the young genius who inherited it would die before they could grow old enough to create a difference.

Sure, people tried, but there was never a successful case.

Whether through chance or through destiny, in this very lab, Gio, who watched the final steps of the process come to a close, was the first one to achieve true success.

’It doesn’t look any different from an ordinary Bloodline Sequence.’

Bloodline Sequences didn’t have a look to them. Depending on the blood they came from, they could even range from neon colors to deep blacks. They radiated a subtle aura that could be felt at a close distance, but nothing that would truly tell of their power.

The Sequence Gio now held was the same. His hands felt warm around the vial because of the heat it gave off, but other than that, nothing set it apart from the crowd.

’Right now, I’m only believing it’s Equinox Grade because that’s what it should be. If I want to test it properly, I need to go somewhere that has the right tech. It probably exists in this lab, but I can’t use it for the same reason I can’t use any of the other ones.’

Registering a Bloodline Sequence above Nova Grade in anyone’s systems was preposterous.

’It wouldn’t be dangerous. Once I absorb it, it’s not like anyone can take it from me. Nobody’s going to try to kill me for it, but I’ll be thrown into the spotlight whether I like it or not.’

He did plan to make a name for himself, but it needed to be on his own terms. He had to take baby steps before he even thought of revealing something as revolutionary as a higher grade of Sequence.

"Huu..."

He looked at the vial with stern eyes.

’I have to trust myself.’

He had to trust his judgement and inherit the Sequence to find out what grade it was.

’Even if it isn’t Equinox Grade, it’ll be Nova Grade purely based on the Dark Demon Tiger’s blood alone. It won’t get me exactly where I want to be, but if I just suffer a little, I can make up for it.’

Several backup plans were already in place if things went wrong. He didn’t need to be afraid of the consequences.

After keeping the Sequence in his Storage Hole, Gio cleaned up the lab and left. He first found the front desk and acquired a packet detailing the student programs the lab offered before finding Farrah and asking her to open the way to Nightreign.

Since he didn’t use his portal to enter the market again, it was still connected to his last known location. Just like that, he was back in his room like it was nothing.

’It’s almost bright out.’

The first thing he saw was the sight out the window. It was dark, but there was a hint of blue in the sky that foreshadowed the sun’s rising.

’If I sleep now, I won’t wake up until night falls.’

Rather than sleep, there was something far more important he wanted to focus on.

It arrived back in his hands.

It was already prepared to use.

’And over the course of this past year, my body has become more than fortified enough for me to take in a Bloodline Sequence.’

Gio took a deep breath.

This was it.

The moment he took this Bloodline into his body, he could truly start training as a Sequencer.

He sat down in a lotus position and steadied his breathing. He cleared his mind of any thoughts as he attached a needle to the bottom of the vial.

The needle attachment latched to the vial and created a hole in the bottom through which it could pull the liquid out.

It was a system made to send a Bloodline Sequence into the body.

Holding the needle above his arm, Gio took one final breath and closed his eyes.

’Here goes nothing...’

"Huup!"

With a sharp inhale, Gio pressed the needle into his skin and perfectly found a blood vessel. Feeling the rush of blood against its tip, the needle sucked the Sequence out of the vial and injected it into his bloodstream.

"Khhhh....!"

Gio felt a wave of pain pulse through his body. His eyes opened wide and he gritted his teeth, feeling a burning sensation swell over him.

He was sweating from every possible pore within seconds. Veins and blood vessels were popping out of his extremities and his neck as if they were on the verge of exploding.

Gio could feel it in his body, pushing through his bloodstream and dominating the blood he was born with. His pupils flickered, changing several times between reptilian, tiger, and human.

The bloodlines inside of him were fighting.

No, rather than a fight between three, it was a fight between two.

The snake eyes and tiger eyes merged into one, fighting against the natural green-grey color of his irises.

The Bloodline Sequence Gio inherited was not that of the Blackwing Blood Serpent or the Dark Demon Tiger.

The Bloodline of the Blackwing Demon Tiger, a hybrid that should have never existed, tried to dominate his mind and body, turning him into a slave to its carnal desires.

Gio himself was flickering in and out of consciousness as he tried to fight it, but he desperately held on.

’This is...Equinox!’

Without a doubt, this was an Equinox Grade Sequence.

Because even a Nova Grade Sequence couldn’t do something like this.

In his mind, Gio saw the creature of his creation. Its massive form, a chimera of the best parts of both creatures, roared at him and aimed for his throat.

He pushed it back with all his might. He slowly changed from the boy he was now to the man he was in the past, showing it the power of the one it was trying to conquer.

His body glowed hot like lava. His skin became translucent and a heatwave spread through his room, singeing the carpet he sat on.

His body changed, becoming harder and stronger. His muscles developed and morphed, taking on a different, more animalistic design.

His mental avatar wielded a massive sword, letting forth a wave of power that cut the Blackwing Demon Tiger in half. His eyes started to regain their color, but the visual acuity of the beast he absorbed remained in place.

His senses heightened one by one, making him painfully aware of all of the sensations around him. The pain in his body slowly faded away. It wasn’t anywhere close to being over, but he had become numb to an extent.

His head, however, began to thump so hard he felt like his skull was about to shatter. He felt like he was seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, and touching everything within a several-meter radius.

’Focus!’

He yelled at himself internally, trying to keep his mind together.

This wasn’t the first time he’d had to adapt to a powerful Sequence.

He had to deal with the roaring of hell and the sight of a mountain of corpses when this happened to him the last time. The ear-piercing rush of air conditioning and the sight of the carpet in gross detail was much more bearable.

"Huu...huu..."

Gio focused on his breathing. He listened to it until it was only as loud as it needed to be. He focused his eyes in front of him, learning to control the depth of his new field of vision.

He gradually adapted himself to his senses, allowing the overwhelming feeling in his mind to once again be replaced by the pain in his body.

"Huu..."

But pain was far more bearable.

His bones reforged themselves, his blood became thicker and more active, and his nerves became steel wires that transmitted information faster and more accurately than ever before.

His body became one with the blood of the Blackwing Demon Tiger, and the Blackwing Demon Tiger was forced to become one with him.

It was a tedious and painful process, but it was more than worth it in the end.

After all, when all the pain and anguish was gone, the only thing left was power.

’I have to go test this right this instant.’
