Transcendent Gene
Chapter 157: First Sequence [1]

Chapter 157: First Sequence [1]

What did it feel like to inherit a Bloodline Sequence?

It was a life-changing experience. Once one had overcome the first trial and properly absorbed the Sequence, one’s entire being would be different from what it was before.

The actual feeling varied depending on one’s Sequence. Whether one felt as light as a feather or as heavy as a tank, as strong as a lion or as fast as a cheetah; it all depended on the qualities of one’s Sequence.

The Blackwing Demon Tiger Bloodline that Gio created was made with very specific intentions.

The moment he stood up, Gio could feel those intentions coming to life.

’I can feel my blood rushing through my body. It’ll take some time to get used to this.’

His internal systems were more active, but not without reason.

He pulled a small knife and cut his arm, watching the blood flow. It moved much slower than it was supposed to as if it had no desire to leave his body.

The cut existed for several seconds, bleeding not nearly as profusely as it should have. As the seconds turned into minutes, however, the skin pulled itself together and healed.

A small cut took five minutes to completely close, but the inefficiency would become a nonissue as he improved his strength and purified his bloodline.

’Now that I have a natural regeneration factor like this, I can go into battle with a lot less worry.’

The need for healing serums decreased, which was always a good thing when Healers couldn’t be consulted.

’On top of that...’

He felt the strength in his legs even just standing still. The Dark Demon Tiger’s powerful body qualities were given to him, allowing him to move with far more power in his steps. ;

Yet, despite his power, his flexibility was not inhibited. His dexterity and ability to move his body impossibly was still present, and the elasticity of his body was even improved by the traits of the Blackwing Blood Serpent.

Gio left his room immediately and found himself a place in the large grassy area behind the mansion. He didn’t train for anything in particular. He just wanted to move his body.

Whoosh!

He ran, reaching new heights of speed without even using Aether. He punched the air, watching it crack under the pressure of his fist.

He felt the speed and strength he now had. He felt the improvements in his senses that allowed him to perceive what would have been impossible before.

The strength he’d already built was properly enhanced, and now that he was standing at this starting line, he could finally begin his journey as a Sequencer.

’That means I should also get my first proper Gene Sequence.’

Hekat’s power was a separate entity from the things that were supposed to exist in his Gene Housing. It was useful in many ways, but it was never meant to become his main source of power.

All of the Guardian Runes were meant to be his trump cards. The power he ordinarily used was the power he gathered in his own body and soul.

Gio looked at the sun in the sky above. It was early morning now. Everyone in the house was probably awake and moving around already.

’I need to talk to Father.’

He’d set up his partnership with Farrah and he could find Klyde again soon for his matter, but those were only side objectives.

’The most important thing now is to get into the First Institute.’

He had no interest in going to school to be a Sequencer, but the world’s pulse would focus on the First Institute soon.

’The first trial of the beast control machine will be held there at the start of the next school year. I have to see how that plan progressed with how the timeline has changed, and if possible, I want to prevent as many casualties as possible.’

There were many talented geniuses who died in that attack. If they were able to grow into proper Sequencers, they would have become humanity’s frontline.

’And more importantly, the First Institute is my stepping stone.’

Humanity faced countless calamitous events that led to its extinction, but if people had to choose one event that started it all, it would be the event that would take place three years from now.

’The First Disaster.’

The first of seven Disasters that brought humanity down before the Calamities appeared to consume the solar system.

’It struck Elysium, humanity’s perfect haven. Elysium became inaccessible for the next twenty years, and when we were finally able to reach it again, it was dust and rubble.’

That event broke off the communication network between the different worlds humanity inhabited. Earth, Venus, Mars, and even Frontier were left isolated from each other, forced to survive alone.

’Before the First Disaster appears, I have to get to Elysium and be strong enough to do something about it. Entering Elysium as someone from a lower Stratum is almost impossible, but for someone my age, the First Institute provides the best opportunity.’

Every four years, they held a competition that all students attending the academy could enter. The winners would gain the opportunity to train at one of Elysium’s top academies for five years.

’The next one should start either at the end of my first year or the beginning of my second.’

Gio made his way back to the house. As he walked through the halls, he ran into a servant who stopped him and bowed.

"Young Master, I have been ordered to inform you that the family is currently having breakfast. Would you like to join them?"

"Of course," Gio responded with a smile.

"Lead me there."

It was the perfect chance to speak to his father.

He followed the maid to the main dining hall, where his father, half-brother, and half-sister were waiting.

"Gio, welcome," Kyrian said with a warm smile.

"How was your first night at the..."

His words trailed off as his son approached. His eyes subtly widened as he felt an aura that was not present the day before.

"Gio, you..."

He nodded, not withholding the information.

"I stumbled upon some luck. I’ve inherited a Bloodline Sequence."

"You stumbled upon some luck?" Kyrian asked, flabbergasted.

"Well, it’s something like that. I know you saw what I was doing...before I came here."

Gio gave a sidelong glance to his siblings. It was probably better for them to not know of his previous circumstances for now.

"I’ve been training to become a Sequencer, and this is just another step I planned to take. The next..."

Gio sat down at the table with them and thanked the butlers and maids as they brought him food and fresh juice, but Kyrian understood his silence.

"Which school are you looking at?"

"The First Institute."

"I see, so you have big ambitions. But, with your Original Gene, are you sure...? It’ll be dangerous."

Kyrian didn’t even know about his Weaknesses and he was worried. Nevertheless, at this point, Gio didn’t have to prove himself again.

"You just need to look at a more detailed report about my activities down there and you’ll understand. I’m prepared for this."

Kyrian stared at his son with serious eyes for a moment before glancing at his other two children.

"Let’s save this for later," he finally decided. He didn’t want to make the mood at breakfast too serious.

"I’ll tell you, though," he said.

"I believe in your potential. It’s only a matter of if it’s enough for the First Institute’s standards. Later, we can go get your aptitude tested so we can see for certain. After that, we can make concrete plans."

It was unexpected news to Kyrian. He hardly knew how to react to this sudden change. It, in fact, made him even more aware of how separated he was from the life his son was currently living.

However, he put away all of his extraneous thoughts and took his role as a father. He supported his son, choosing to believe him first and question him later.

That aspect of him was one of the things Gio respected most.

Because if it weren’t for that supportiveness, he would have lived a life of misery far before the apocalypse truly began.
