To His Hell and Back
Chapter 220: If I Have To Leave

Chapter 220: If I Have To Leave

Arabella blinked at his words, almost doubting her ears and what she had heard. When her eyes met Cassius’s red eyes, she felt herself drawn to it, feeling that this moment wasn’t only full of heat but also warmth, warmth enough to melt her heart.

She giggled at his words, smiling slightly, "A peck, not a kiss?"

"I won’t mind for more," Cassius softly turned to her stomach and slept on it like a cat. Her fingers tangled between his black locks, swirling it playfully between the gasps of her fingers. "But asking for those when I had done something I so willingly do is simply shameful."

"But a peck isn’t?" She asked, feeling that his broad back on her fingers to be so powerful, making her feel secure.

"You can refuse it," he answered her, "It’s not as though I’m so certain that you will give me a peck."

She stared at his red eyes and his face snuggled around her stomach, "Cassius..." she drawled, gaining his attention as his face that had lazily buried in her stomach lifted up to see her, still leaning on her body. "Last night..." with Isabelle... did you sleep... did you fell in love with her?

"You said you don’t feel bored with my presence," Arabella changed her words that she had wanted to ask, instead asking the other more important thing she had hesitated to ask all this time, "But will there be a day where you will think that my presence is a burden?"

"No," Cassius said, drawing his eyebrows into a frown, "Haven’t I told you? You are amusing, interesting, but that’s not all. Those weren’t the only reason why I had chosen you."

Arabella’s green eyes softened, "Then what is it?"

"I don’t know," Cassius replied with a softer hum, "But I know for certain that I won’t ever think that I would ever need to get rid of you."

But Arabella wondered about that. Their relationship... what are they?

She pursed her lips, her throat dry and she could feel the heat latching on her eyes as she thought of her question. Only finally did she manage to squeeze the words she hesitated to ask, saying it with a rather stiff tone, "I heard why those princess were brought to the kingdom," Arabella said to him, softly placing her hand on his cheeks and lifted his face towards her. "That you’re going to marry them."

Cassius studied her face and for the very first time, he couldn’t tell what was going through in her head. She seemed delighted but at the same time fearful. Fearful of what? Haven’t he got rid of those that scares her?

He wondered what she wanted to truly ask, knowing well that her question wasn’t the real question that beg the back on her head.

"Will you marry them?" Arabella’s throat caught and suddenly before he could answer, she shook her head, "That’s a foolish question isn’t it?"

Then softly, she pushed herself to stand and seeing her action, Cassius moved away, knowing that it would be too heavy to move with him on top of her.

He studied her face and for some reason though he could so easily speak what he has in mind, his guts tell him not to simply answer her question, as if his entire soul was warning him that if he had slip on his words now, he would never be able to see her again.

The thought of seeing her leave him immediately alerted him and his hand quickly grabbed her by the wrists.

"Arabella those princess-"

"-I know," Arabella looked at him, "You have worked so hard. You have sacrificed so many. Your mother had even sacrificed you to become the King. Now that the crown is so close into falling to your hands, how could you simply turn a blind eye to it and choose to miss this chance?"

"The crown will fall to my hands," Cassius’s words became fierce. His hands holding to her wrist tighten as he pulled her closer, "You don’t have to worry about those princess, they are here only as a mere decoration."

"What are you saying?" She turned to him and scoffed, "You don’t have to lie, I know that the King promise to pass you the crown if only you marry one of the candidates."

Cassius ruffled his hair, frustrated, "I have my own plan. The crown is mine. It has always been mine and it would continue to be mine. Even without marrying them, I would have the crown and be the sole King of Versailles."

Arabella could see that he truly was determined to become the King no matter what. But how could he does so without marrying the princess? Had he said all of this to merely put her at ease so she wouldn’t worry? Or was it his own way to make sure that she wouldn’t run away from him?

No. Cassius may be a lot of things but he isn’t a liar.

Yet...

"Even then," Arabella cuts off, "You will one day marry someone. A King needs his queen. A Queen who is both royal and someone who would efficiently support the King in governing the kingdom. That said Queen need to have everything, whether intelligence, class, or caste." But she... is none of that.

Feeling embarrassed by her words, Arabella turned away, "I’m sorry, I don’t know what I’m trying to say myself. But... I just wanted to tell you that if one day you are to choose a woman, I think I will leave."

Cassius’s red eyes turned fiercer and it glowed red. He pulled her close, the birthmark on his neck pulsating as if in sync to his emotions and the loud heartbeat that thump against her ears now as he pulled her close to his embrace.

"Never," he paused, his voice taut, "Never say that you would leave."

"But what am I?" Arabella looked up at him and softly pushed her hands away from his chest. She stared straight to his eyes, her words trembling as it left her lips, "What am I to always stay with you? Our relationship... it isn’t more than just a master and a slave pet isn’t it?"
