There's Something Wrong With You, My Lord!
Chapter 39: Bursting Through The Woods (1)

Chapter 39: Bursting Through The Woods (1)

On the other side of the Shane Greenwoods, Legland and Nicol are currently standing near a sealed pit. It was supposedly a tunnel’s entrance but now there is a large boulder covering it.

The rock is trembling from time to time as if it was breathing.

Legland looked at it coldly and then he asked Nicol, "What should we do from here?"

The search for the moon elf lord has been halted ever since they discovered the existence of a huge colony of root crawlers inside the tunnel.

At first, they fearlessly slaughtered countless root crawlers trying to open up a path.

However, the root crawlers didn’t seem to lessen in numbers instead they are flowing like an inexhaustible stream of water.

The difficulties don’t end there.

They soon realized that the more they assault these critters, the more ferocious they become.

’And dealing with them inside a tunnel that could only accommodate one adult at a time doesn’t make it easier.’ Legland then looked at the tent nearby. That is where most of the injured sentinels are resting. There are at least 29 of them.

It is quite fortunate that they went first to the Hyon Clan and were given fresh medicinal herbs or else their stocks of potion cannot keep up with the demand due to the present situation.

"If you were the moon elf lord, what would you do?" Nicol instead asked.

Legland was surprised, needless to say. He is nothing but a head figure among the sentinels. There is no way for him to know the thoughts of the moon elf lord!

But instead of ignoring the question, he took a deep breath and gave his answer. "The moon elf lord will of course deal with these pests himself." His answer is pretty vague but that is based on the present attitude of the moon elf lord.

What he knew about the lord is that he is someone who cares for the welfare and safety of the entire race.

"That is natural," Nicol deadpanned, obviously not impressed at his old friend’s answer.

"Let’s search around the vicinity and look for other tunnel entrances. We need to seal them up if there are any traces of root crawlers in there." He regained his wits after facing a responsibility that could potentially threaten their lives.

"It will be useless even if we collapse the tunnel since these root crawlers are underground creatures anyway."

Legland nodded in affirmation, allowing the tunnel to act as the prison that contains these abominations.

"By the way, do you think that it is weird that these creatures seem to be starving themselves?"Legland asked the head priest.

They have observed that it seems that these root crawlers don’t go out to hunt ever since they are staying here. Even though they are attacking them, they are staying inside the tunnel. Huddled and as though they are pasted with each other.

They are compressed inside the thin walls of the tunnels if they are not being bothered.

Their starving wails from time to time can be heard but they only dare to stay at one place.

As if they are herded.

"I don’t have an idea," Nicol answered. "But I got a feeling that this will trigger something serious so we need to ask for the cooperation of the clans nearby."

"Rion," Nicol called and Rion abruptly made an entrance from above. "Yes, Head Priest Nicol?"

"Disperse the Oriole Squad and send them to meet the patriarchs of the Hyon, Adriha, Yultin and Portun Clans. Tell them the present situation that we have." He then gave a few pieces of moonstone with a carved image of the Lunaris flower.

The symbol of the moon goddess’ temple. "Use that to verify your identity to the patriarchs and..."

Nicol stopped for a while. Weighing his thoughts.

"Don’t tell them that the rogues made the tunnels yet. We will explain this once we have the moon elf lord with us."

Rion was surprised at first but then he remembered the will of their moon elf lord.

"Understood!" The young sentinel saluted.

Rion was about to leave when his father stopped him out of nowhere. "Yes?"

"Go back to the temple and mobilize the entire legion. Tell them to watch the entire Amber Forest if there are any movements of root crawlers. Immediately exterminate them once sighted." Legland ordered sternly.

Rion made a salute as affirmation then he moved to do the orders quickly.

Legland and Nicol made eye contact with a tacit understanding.

The future may be a bit challenging from this day forward.

~

A group of moon elves and wolves are moving fast inside the woodland of the northeastern side of the Shane Greenwoods.

Their strides are both powerful and quick, leaving deep and visible foot tracks on the terrain.

Because of their big movements, several small critters are scampering to stay away from this group.

A few childish exclamations of excitement can be heard as this group is sprinting towards the south.

"Waaaah! We are flying! This is amazing!"

"The wind feels so nice! Faster, moon elf lord! Faster!"

The milky voices of the children reverberated throughout the woodlands.

Obvious excitement is painted in their tiny faces as the wind are slapping them.

Meanwhile the maestro behind, Luis almost vomited blood while he was flying with the six orc kids.

Yes, he is controlling nature’s energy to make six children fly.

He is still trying to improve his control so it is natural for him to spend a larger amount of mental strength than usual.

In addition to that, he needs to be careful not to get out of control and injure any of these hairy children.

So the moon elf lord is on the verge of puking.

But who can he blame for this but himself?

Such a thing wouldn’t happen if it wasn’t for his ’plan’.

"We need to leave immediately. No one knows how long the root crawlers will stay underground. Once they move above the surface and wreak havoc, it goes without saying that we will be trapped here. Go with me to the Amber Forest and we will cooperate with the sentinels at the very least." He said to Xagrien and his comrades.

"T-then are we going to kill root crawlers while we are on our way then?" Ilian asked despite the nervousness he is feeling while standing in front of the moon elf lord.

"Blitzkrieg. We will attack them like lightning then we will disappear like lightning."

Luis then gave a meaningful smile.

If he could only turn back time, he would erase that smile with a jab straight to his face.

’How dare you come up with a plan that requires high-speed pacing when there are children in the mix?!’ Luis silently chastised himself.

In his defense, he is running out of time. He needs to warn others about the infestation of the root crawlers. It spans the entire Amber Forest so there will be other clans that will be dragged into this mess.

He needs to issue an evacuation notice and resettle them in one place for him to secure their safety. He only has four days to do all that and the Amber Forest itself is wide and houses thirteen clans...

He is lacking time even if he has five days!

Luis is about to lose his sanity due to the pressure so he chose to take charge of the children’s safety he thought that it will be easy considering of the children’s small frame. He opted to settle it fast. Hence, the situation now.

And his decision obviously proves that he overestimated himself.

"I am a bird! Hahahaha!" A gleeful laugh of a child was heard. Luis controls them to be near him so that it would be less taxing for him.

Luis’ lips involuntarily twitch. "You are an orc from the Azure Wolf Tribe, you know." He ’kindly’ reminded the little orc who hasn’t experienced his first transformation.

The mischievous boy covered his mouth, trying to suppress his giggles.

However, he failed.

’Now, I finally understand why my co-workers who are single parents are looking haggard every time.’

Luis helplessly averted his eyes as a slight arch was forming on his lips.

Never mind, he doesn’t mind if he needs to protect these midgets.

It is his responsibility in the first place. Besides, these children don’t act restrained, unlike the adults towards him.

He doesn’t believe that children has a comforting effect but now, he kind of do.

His gaze unintentionally went to the moon elves and orcs who were running on their sides.

The adults are looking at them with a bit of worry and curiosity. They snappily retracted their stare the moment they met with the dark-green eyes of the moon elf lord.

"Ouch!" Someone cried as he was tripped by a protruding tree root. No one has stopped the group and like a pro, he caught up.

The moon elf lord’s lips pouted after seeing this.

Luis didn’t make it a big deal and didn’t bother them. They are tense already so why push their buttons more?

These guys manage to prepare to leave in a very short time. Just less than an hour and it is enough for them to pack all their important belongings with them.

Luis breathe out a distressed sigh. Their skill shows how frequent they are on moving from one place to another. The moon elf lord could only imagine the reason why they are trained to be that way

He then saw Xagrien looking at him from the vanguard. "We are near the tunnel entrance that is connected to the collapsed tunnel on the other side." The male declared.

This anti-romantic guy.

He rolled his eyes to express his understanding and hide the inexplicable fluttering on his chest.

Luis turned to focus on their mission.

Their first target was the section of the tunnel near their dwelling. Luis decided to try if they can manage to exterminate them completely in this part of the woodland.

He hopes that their movement will lessen the pressure that they are bound to experience days from now.

Luis gave a scrutinizing stare at the individuals running around him. That will also be a good way for him to gauge the strength of his new subordinates whose loyalty is still in Xagrien’s hands.

And ultimately, he wants to know if he can find the weakness of the root crawlers.

They continued their sprint until they reached the entrance of the tunnel in no time.

"Let me take a look at it first," Luis said.

Xagrien was about to stop him when suddenly, they heard the moon elf lord exclaimed.

Luis bent down in front of the hole with a pounding heart. He is ready to see something hideous but he was astounded when he took a peak at the pit and saw a small yet familiar white fluff wrestling with the dark and hideous root crawlers. He had seen this pompous little creature and the last time that he remember is that it should be staying at the camp.

"What the hell are you doing here?!" Luis exclaimed after seeing a root crawler die after it was spewed with a green puff of smoke by the prideful white chick.
