Chapter 231: The Moon Elf Lord Is Here (1)
The Amber Forest has ushered peace after the crisis with the root crawlers and gigantic golem was solved. No one has suffered life-threatening injuries since then. That’s why the fact that Jiro and Olyn saved a heavily injured stranger in the marketplace outside Woodrill City has set off waves among the patriarchs present in the Amber Forest—yes, the non-local patriarchs included.
With worries that it was one of their people, they all headed to the infirmary to express their concerns. However, the moment they laid eyes on the moon elf and saw the old tattered clothes, most of their gazes changed.
"What is a barbaric rogue doing here?" asked one patriarch who hailed from Portgrass Plain condescendingly. "Does he think that going to see the Moon Elf Lord will pardon him from all the damages and losses that they caused to clans that they pestered?"
Another patriarch also chimed in, "I dare not to disrespect the healer from the temple, but you are not thinking of treating this disgusting thief, right?"
Jiro and Olyn, who remained there to help, were shocked at the sharp words that came from the older man. "What the?"
Rean, who was the healer present at that time, froze when he was asked that question. The potion holding his hand trembled, and his eyes, which were usually full of smiles, were now spinning with violent tornadoes. For him, everyone injured— innocent or not— is entitled to be treated.
"With all due respect, I am a healer whose duty is to save others. My treatment has nothing to do with your judgment. The precious time is being wasted as I listen to your whining. So, if you would excuse me, I have a patient suffering from the backlash of using his elemental powers excessively on top of having multiple infected lacerations over his body. After everything is done, and he can finally talk, then you can request for the temple and tribunal to pass the punishment if this man is really an offender."
The respected patriarchs were all stunned by the spiciness of the bearer. "Oh damn, so stupid for someone to judge someone because of their origin. Haven’t they heard a lot from Nicol? Seems like all that preaching about our lord’s ideals was all for nothing."
The patriarch from the Portgrass Plains heard this, and his crimson red eyes signify that he is a fire-powered moon elf burned.
"The rogues rarely visited Amber Forest to steal food and snatch bearers for their carnal desire. Therefore, it is understandable that you don’t take their presence seriously, but in our territory, we suffered a lot because of them."
Hearing this, Rean was a little guilty, but he stood on his ground. He was about to respond when suddenly, Nicol came.
This made everyone in the infirmary shut up. Rean finally breathed a sigh of relief. He focused on treating the patient.
"No one is undermining your sentiments here. If this male is indeed guilty of anything, then he will be receiving a fitting punishment. That is how the Moon Elf Lord deals with things. Fairness and equal chances for everyone," Nicol’s clear, authoritative voice sounded as he entered the infirmary.
Instantly, the patriarchs— even the ones who are from Woodrill City silently backed away.
The cold-looking, handsome head priest is gaining an overbearing air daily since he is slowly perfecting his control over his true element.
"How was he?" he asked Rean, pertaining to the injured moon elf.
"Terrible," Rean answered outrightly without looking at the male. He took a peek at the patient’s eyes while saying, "This fellow exhausted wind elemental powers to go here to the point that his nature’s energy is exhausted. The Moon Elf Lord is not here, so he would die at this rate if we didn’t give him the life-saving potion from the temple."
Everyone gasped after hearing this. But not all of them are thinking in the same direction.
Some people gasped because someone’s life was in mortal danger, while others were stressed at the thought that a precious potion would be used on a rogue.
That sacred potion that Rean was referring to was concocted with the matured fallen branch of the Tree of Life and Sacred Spring. Each year, there are only a few dozen created because of the scarcity of the fallen branches of the Tree of Life.
In the minds of the patriarchs outside the Amber Forest, the head priest can’t agree to spend such an important potion on a stranger. But to their surprise, the life-saving potion was already in Nicol’s hand, ready to be given to Rean.
Rean didn’t hesitate the moment he got the potion. He gently tilted the man’s head and fed the potion gradually.
"No way! How could... to a rogue!" cried the patriarch, who is adamant in his hate.
Suddenly, hot air started swirling around the head priest.
In an instant, the individuals present in the infirmary broke into hot sweat. "Is this what it means to awakening true element?!" They all asked in their head, awe and fear blossomed in some of them.
Nicol seemed to realize that he is leaking his power so he instantly retracted his power and he continued talking.
"If I were you, I would stop using such a word as early as now. The Moon Elf Lord doesn’t like that, and I might as well remind you that Xagrien, his mate, is formerly a wanderer in the wilderness, and he is also the youngest four-star warrior in the entire moon elf race."
"And the new Lune Clan, who are recognized by the Moon Elf Lord that is composed of moon elves and orcs, are all formerly called rogues by the other clans. But now, they boast as one of the model clans for their skills and trustworthiness." Nicol said solemnly to each newly arrived patriarch. "It would do more good if you look at them in more openness because not all groups who are deprived of territories are thieves and kidnappers. They just wanted to live a normal life, that’s all."
The angry patriarchs were rendered speechless upon hearing the last statement. They avoided the penetrating gaze of the powerful head priest.
Nicol looks at them and bets that they must be shocked by how lenient and kind the temple is acting now. It is understandable since the temple has maintained its coldness and passiveness towards issues like this. But they should know that things have changed. The moon elf race will be molded into the ideals of the Moon Elf Lord.
Nicol saw how the Moon Elf Lord was silently adjusting his orders to the values and ethics of the clan, and now, it was their chance to show their support for the Moon Elf Lord’s goal by changing an aspect of their values little by little.
The silence stretched for a while until Rean opened his mouth to speak. The tone of the bearer was nervous and with a tinge of disbelief.
"Head Priest Nicol... can you please look at this wound?" Rean called Nicol.
The handsome male in a white flowy priest robe didn’t hesitate to approach the patient.
Rean was currently tending the lacerations around the moon elf’s body. The wounds looked terrible as it is already infected due to days of being left untreated.
Nicol scrutinized the wounds and noticed that along the open wound, there were fine grains of stone remaining in the infected flesh. But that was not all. There’s a certain wound that was in the man’s flesh that is radiating a faint circle of light.
Goosebumps appeared on the composed and cool head priest.
This familiar energy that’s not nature’s energy...
This conspicuous circle...
"Is there anyone who knows this man’s origin?" Nicol snappily turned his head to the patriarchs from outside the Amber Forest.
The two patriarchs, who were formerly angry about the patient’s presence, were startled at first since the crimson-red eyes of the head priest stopped directly at them.
The two of them shook their head.
Olyn saw this and couldn’t help but think, "They are so angry with this man when they don’t know him personally?! What a bunch of bullies!"
Hylolas from the Hyon Clan saw the faint unease on Nicol’s expression.
"Head Priest Nicol," called he. "Is there something wrong?"
Nicol blinked his eyes twice, seemingly trying to regain his composure.
"I hope there isn’t, but... we really need to tell this to the Moon Elf Lord—personally," Nicol uttered. "I will be going to the—"
The head priest was about to say his piece when suddenly, a figure zoomed in from the outside.
"Rean!! Thank goodness the infirmary is just near the Transportation Circle or else I will be shitting on my tight leather pants! This lord will be using the toilet. Is it vacant?" The familiar voice of the bearer echoed through the crowded infirmary.
"My Lord!" Olyn jumped up in excitement.
However, he is the only one who has the mood to be cheery like that.
From a black and blue complexion, Luis’ face turned paper white. Forget about nature’s urgent call, he looked at the familiar and unfamiliar faces huddled around the room. "What a crowd..." That’s all that he can say.
