There's Something Wrong With You, My Lord! -
Chapter 208: Pass or Fail (2)
Chapter 208: Pass or Fail (2)
In this era where the technology is underdeveloped or still developing, Luis is not expecting to see an over-the-counter pregnancy test kit. In fact, he is more than curious to know what kind of surprise the moon elves could give him. Are they going to check his pulse like in Eastern medicine? Or will they ask him to pee on wheat and barley seeds and see if they grow? Ancient people from Earth believed that if pee sprouts marinated any of those seeds, then it meant that the woman was pregnant. The same way was used to determine the sex of the fetus.
If the barley grows, it means a male child. If the wheat grows, it means a female child.
It is pretty fascinating to learn those bizarre beliefs. Luis is excited to learn from his people. And at the same time, he wants to know the truth. He can’t keep on second-guessing his condition because that is just plain negligence on his part.
The Moon Elf Lord also realized something: he is not the only one looking forward to the revelation. The Bearer Squad is more enthusiastic than him to finish their excursion. They almost lifted him up to bring him to the infirmary after he finally decided on the lumber they would use. Olyn made arrangements for the skilled lumbermen to dry the woods quickly—a very efficient and thoughtful servant.
Such excitement is giving him a little pressure.
Luis doesn’t know how to react, so he just lets them do their thing. They intended to help him. He might as well cooperate with them.
"My Lod, kindly. Hold this stone," Rean gave him something after rummaging the medical supplies.
Luis opened his palms to receive and looked at the glossy black stone questionably.
"Oh, Eclipsed Moon Stone!" Olyn blurted out.
The Moon Elf Lord’s forehead creased. ’This is a Moon Stone? Shouldn’t it be pristine white like the walls of the Moon Goddess’ Temple?’
"This special stone was used to determine if a little moon elf is forming in the bearer’s womb," Rean explained. He politely asked Luis to hand it over again for the sake of demonstration.
Luis readily did so. Detecting pregnancy using stone is not a method that he expected. Intrigued, his dark green eyes are kept glued to the cheerful bearer.
"Eclipsed Moon Stone contains a kind of nature’s energy that is strongly attracted to the moon elves’ core. It was a highly ’active’ kind of nature’s energy that easily penetrates our plate, and for some reason, it always attaches to our core." Rean explained.
"When a regular moon elf holds it like this," Rean gripped the black rock firmly and released it. Luis noticed that the black sheen of the stone had become dull. "You will see the darkness of the stone lighten a little— but not enough to be called gray. This change happened because some of the rock’s energy was transferred to my core."
"We only have one, so the change is not that obvious. That is what you are trying to say," Luis pointed out to clarify. "But what if it a bearer with a child or unformed child in his what would happen?"
"The Eclipsed Moon Stone will turn gray," Rean responded.
"It doesn’t matter if the baby moon elf is not formed yet, My Lord," Gea said. "Even if it was only seven days since a bearer last did the deed, it is already possible for the stone to change its color as long as the bearer is pregnant."
"The conception of a little moon elf always starts with the formation of the core," Aryn added.
"There are two cores present in a pregnant bearer’s body. Hence, the loss is greater for the Eclipsed Moon Stone. That explains the gray color then."
Everyone nodded hard at Luis’ words.
"Will you do take the test, My Lord?" Ira asked carefully.
Silence reigns inside the infirmary as the bearers await the Moon Elf Lord’s response. On the other hand, Luis is thinking deeply in the midst of great nervousness.
He felt like he was approaching to open Pandora’s Box in this situation. The dreading feeling that something will change if he does the test is biting him like a pesky little fire ant. However, he is also having a cold-feet.
What if it is positive? Is he ready to handle a child? Is he strong enough to protect his kid in the approaching apocalypse— once that happens?
What if it came out negative? Can he handle the... disappointment that may come after that?
These are the questions that are holding him back.
The first one is something that he could take responsibility for. Luis is sure he could do that, or he would give him all to do that. He’s got a partner who seems to have boundless potential, and the two of them are working hard to have a steady foothold in this world and be stronger. They have the capability to protect their child.
On the other hand, the second question takes effect instantaneously and is the most tricky one. He loves the idea of having a child with Xagrien. Come on, it is a dream come true for a gay like him, bottoming and yet able to conceive a child. That is a blissful experience that he is looking forward to, and he is sure it will hurt if his expectation doesn’t meet the reality.
’Suck it up, Luis. Don’t be a coward bitch,’ the antagonistic side of his conscience whispered to him scornfully.
Luis internally rolled his eyes and breathed a sigh, "Okay, Let’s do it."
The bearer squad all beamed with anticipation.
"Alright, My Lord! Please lay comfortably on the bed and hold the stone above the center of your chest. Grasp it tightly and relax yourself, My Lord. Let the energy from the stone penetrate you," Rean instructed. His voice was trembling with excitement.
Luis noticed that and joked while settling himself on the soft bed in the infirmary, "Let it penetrate me? Why am I thinking of something else when I heard that?"
The bearers who were knowledgeable enough laughed. And with that, the Moon Elf Lord took the test with his eyes closed.

Sitting in a lotus position on their home’s balcony and with a black stone in his hand, the Moon Elf Lord is trying hard to empty his head of all the unnecessary thoughts. But try as he might, he cannot tame his heart that is feeling blue.
His hope fizzled after he opened his palms back in the infirmary.
Luis could still remember his bearer squad’s careful and awkward look after seeing the black Eclipse Moon Stone in his hand.
The result of the test was negative.
At that time, he just shrugged it off and acted like it didn’t bug him at all, but in reality, a pang straight to his chest assaulted him. He never thought failing the pregnancy test would hurt like an insufferable bitch.
Luis just smiled and maintained that light tone as he spoke. However, it seems like such a facade didn’t work well since he could feel their lingering stares from his back when Luis left.
Honestly, he felt terrible knowing that he didn’t bid a happy goodbye to those bearers, but he is currently not in the mood to act all cheery now. He wanted to mope— something he didn’t do for a while.
"Others could breathe in relief when they scored negative. How come I feel like I am being strangled now?" Luis murmured. His grip on the new black stone he discreetly stole from the infirmary became harder.
Unknowingly, tears started to form in the side of his eyes. Luis is getting so overwhelmed by emotions that he doesn’t realize that the energy from the Eclipse Moon Stone coursed once again inside his body.
Well, even if he is level-headed, it is impossible for him to know that the energy from the stone penetrated his core and then spread to someplace south that is shrouded in dark matter. It acts like a gate that receives the flowing energy. However, the energy going through this black gate never reached its target destination as it mysteriously exits through another black hole near where it came from.
From time to time, this black matter would flicker, revealing spherical outlines.
It was a fruitless struggle for the active energy because something was playing around.
As time passed, Luis’ emotions turned even more terrible, and the tears hanging around his eyes finally dropped.
"Luis," a familiar voice called him.
"X-Xagrien," Luis looked back to face his mate. He didn’t even get to wipe the tears because all he wanted was to see the handsome man’s face.
Xagrien’s heart immediately thumped when he saw his lover’s expression. He never saw his lover looking so brokenhearted like this.
He flashed to Luis’ side and kneeled to wipe his bearer’s tears.
"What is wrong? Are you hurt?" Xagrien asked.
Luis shook his head tremblingly. "I-I am not pregnant, Xagrien. I-I am only expecting over nothing."
