There's Something Wrong With You, My Lord! -
Chapter 199: Gossips (1)
Chapter 199: Gossips (1)
A new pastime for the inhabitants of the Woodrill Plains arose from their constant exchanges during work and break. Whenever there is free time or just any opportunity, one will see groups of mixed moon elves and orcs huddling in the shades of the houses or the trees, exchanging intelligent insights about the latest happenings in their society.
In other words, gossiping.
Of course, the Moon Elf Lord is aware of this. That is why he is out, stealthily spying on the idle workers resting in the vicinity of the roofless canteen.
It is the workers’ break time, the perfect time for cliques to gather and talk about the latest happenings the other night. Many things happened in the night when Nicol was finally freed from the terrible fever caused by Soul-Element Resonance. Those events must have fed the public’s gossip mill, especially that one with Nicol’s personal affair. That is why the Moon Elf Lord is doing this covert mission: to know the pulse of the majority.
Listening to gossip is one of the most effective methods of gathering information. And Luis knew well that people tend to speak freely when their stomach is full. Hence the timing that he chose.
"My Lord, are we sure they wouldn’t see us if we hid in this luxuriant foliage?" Legland asked the Moon Elf Lord as his face and body were covered with leaves. Luis wanted to ask Legland if he was the missing sibling of that cheeky spirit of the Heart of the Forest.
The leafy camouflage of the handsome head sentinel gives a lowkey vibe of the Winged Serpent with a mushroom-shaped head.
"I am telling you, assimilate with your surroundings and breathe rhythmically with the wind. That is how you stealth without using nature’s energy or magic." Luis explained.
The Moon Elf Lord lectured on one of the important life-saving methods that he learned while living in the apocalypse. "Wait, where are Olyn and Ilian?"
"I am here, My Lord."
"Here, Lord."
The two quietly spoke and showed their locations by waving their hands. Olyn was leaning on one thick branch of the tree a few meters away from Luis. Meanwhile, Ilian’s face suddenly appeared in the tree’s thick foliage on Legland’s right.
Truth be told, he didn’t even feel these two’s presence, which says something as someone whose intuition is as sharp as an animal’s instincts.
"Wow, you two are actually fast learners," Luis complemented the two. He soundlessly clapped his hands."Great job."
"I only did what you instructed," Olyn said; his two cheeks that gained flesh since his first meeting with the Moon Elf Lord are as red as a ripe strawberry.
His Lord complimented him!
"Same, My Lord," Ilian answered, deep inside, his thoughts questioning why he was here. His best friend, Xagrien, arbitrarily pulled him here, saying he would teach him some cool combat-related skills.
But it turns out that he will join the Moon Elf Lord on an errand! He isn’t sure if he should be thankful to his buddy for this opportunity or hate him because he is mentally ready!
No matter what happens, to be in the Moon Elf Lord’s presence is an overwhelming experience for him!
"See them, Legland? You can take them as an example; they can do it so that you can do it, too!" The Moon Elf Lord said, "You don’t have to cover your entire body with leaves just to blend with the surroundings. Just hide behind those thick branches and stay still."
’I think I messed up,’ the big blonde man thought as the redness of shame slowly made its way to his cheeks.
Legland speechlessly did as he was told and shed off the leaves.
Nicol, who was standing in a branch higher than Legland, clicked his tongue, "You royally failed your stealth, Legland."
Days of rest helped Nicol recuperate quickly. That is why he could now actively accompany the Moon Elf Lord. Besides, he was also curious about the people’s reaction when he uttered those words in the heat of the moment.
"Oh," Legland could only say as he looked down. "I apologize, My Lord."
"It’s okay. It is not a must to be good at everything to survive. We all have different strengths, so I understand," Luis bullshitted. He didn’t expect that the combat enthusiast Legland was terrible at doing stealth.
It is fair, considering that Legland is a talented swordsman. Maybe he is cut out to be a valiant knight, not a stealthy assassin. Luis could imagine Legland revealing his ass before he could even pull his killing dagger if he ever instructed him to be an assassin.
"Hey, what are the trees shedding off their leaves too much?"
"Holy! You didn’t destroy any of the roots, right? The wise spirit of Heart of the Forest will surely chew you out if he saw that!"
"I didn’t do anything! I am leaving! I don’t want to be accused of things I didn’t do. Goodbye!"
And the group resting below Legland’s trees moved as if their asses were caught fire.
"What the, I didn’t expect that the tree spirit is gaining notoriety. It hasn’t been long since Xerxes and him came, right?" Luis stupidly watched the leaving group.
"Well, that tree spirit is a very approachable spirit. The possibility that he exchanged words with all the inhabitants of the Woodrill Forest is quite big," Xagrien said.
The man dared not leave Luis’ side and just let him stand behind him. Luis looked behind his shoulder to look at his lover’s purple eyes and asked, "Maybe I should just ask him about the populace’s reaction to the things that happened the other night. Just to save the trouble."
"That is already late, my lord. Don’t you think?" the brute said, holding Luis’s hips to keep him in place. Their bodies slightly touched each other, particularly the ones in the southern part of their body.
"This brute!" Luis tried his best to tone down his exclamation. There are others who could be looking at them now! The Moon Elf Lord nervously scanned his subordinates in their respective location and only breathed a sigh of relief, seeing that all of them were busy watching the moon elves and orcs below them.
’My subordinates are working hard to do the task, yet I am here playing hooky with this brute! How deplorable!’
"Shhh..." The next thing that he felt was a finger covering his lips. "Listen over there, Luis."
Luis instantly shifted into his business-like attitude and listened to the huddling workers not too far from where they were.
One hundred percent of his curiosity is invested in hearing other people’s words.
"I am still in awe of what happened two days ago! Would you believe that aside from the fire elemental powers we are currently using, we can awaken our True Elements by practicing the Moonlight Circulation Technique taught by the Moon Elf Lord? It is simply unbelievable! I love the Moon Elf Lord!"
"It is hard not to love the Moon Elf Lord since he always put our welfare forest. Imagine the trouble he went through to stabilize our head priest that night! I may be standing on the shore, but I could almost see the fat drops of sweat streaming down our Lord’s face."
"And he is willing to conjure those white pillars with life energy to help us if ever we experienced Soul-Element Resonance! How could we be worthy to take care of the Moon Elf Lord this way? I love the Moon Elf Lord!"
Luis facepalmed, "These guys... If social media is a thing in this world. Then the "I Love the Moon Elf Lord" will be a trending hashtag."
He felt flattered that he was exalted this way, but at the same time, everything was new to him. It makes him feel shy.
Crack!
The sound of crushed wood was heard beside him. Luis doesn’t need to look at all. He knew that it was Xagrien dripping with vinegar. "Oh, come on, that is just an expression of innocent admiration."
"What do you mean just by practicing the Moonlight Circulation Technique? You also need to have the right assets to awaken it. Remember the probabilities that Moon Elf Lord reminded us? He said that one to two-star warriors have a thirty percent possibility of reawakening. Meanwhile, the three to four stars have fifty percent. It means that our core’s color also decides whether we reawaken it or not. Head Priest Nicol is already a four-star warrior and a hard worker, so he easily triggered the Soul-Element Resonance."
Luis breathed a sigh of relief. At least the Moon Elves accepted the thing about True Element positively. His concern was if the Moon Elves would not take the Soul-Element Resonance kindly due to the lethal perils that it would impose on them. However, it seems like the Moon Elves are a bunch of daredevils in their own way.
’I just need to study how to utilize the power of this Life Bringer’s Sigil to keep them safe,’ Luis thought as he subconsciously rubbed his forehead.
"Well, I can’t agree more about that. He deserved it."
"Indeed! I cannot help but think of the big sphere of flame that he conjured! The entire expanse of the lake lit up as if it were day! Like the sun descended for the Head Priest Nicol! That is so imposing! I admire more the Head Priest because of that."
Luis told Nicol, "It seems that you are starting to become popular. Great job."
"I am flattered by the praise, My Lord. But I think admirers are not the only thing that I gained."
Luis quizzically looked at the man, trying to think what he was pointing out.
"Well, I get that Head Priest Nicol is a great and powerful warrior, but don’t you think it’s heartless of him to drop his family after he achieved that strength suddenly?"
