Chapter 137: The Storm (1)
"Xagrien," Luis weakly whispered, his face painted with surprise. A distressing surprise.
Mori was the name of Xagrien’s mother. He is a bearer from the one of the lightning clans, and someone whom this man silently cherished.
Luis could still remember the soft and happy gaze that this man had in his eyes when he was retelling stories about his mother as a child... and how heartbroken he was when he told him that he had already passed.
At that time, Luis didn’t press on and ask about the details because Xagrien was obviously blue at that time.
"It’s o-" he tried to console the man and reached to wipe Xagrien’s looming tears from the corner of his eyes.
Slap! Xagrien swatted his hand harshly and Luis could only stare at Xagrien with surprise. The man is not in a better state; he was also wide-eyed upon realizing what he did.
"I’m sorry," Xagrien bowed his head and then he continued in a much firmer tone, "Let’s go, my lord. We could never know if those things will appear once again."
Luis could see how Xagrien discreetly wiped the moisture in his eyes and threaded his way to where Baku was.
Luis’ subordinates also saw this happening and they are tongue-tied. Most of them are in the clear about their lord’s relationship with the young man. They are as close as mates so they don’t have much of a say since an issue between mates should be settled between them.
But it seems like someone didn’t get the memo.
"My lord, the back of your hand is red, let me put some ointment on it to alleviate the redness," Ali spoke with obvious concern. In his head, this is a perfect opportunity to get closer to the moon elf lord.
It came as a shock for him when he saw that the bearer who caught his eye was in an intimate relationship with a lowly man. But that didn’t turn him off. In fact, it triggered his competitive side. His desire to conquer others’ property and make them his.
Ali reached out to touch the moon elf lord’s hands but Luis quickly dodged it.
"I can heal it by myself," and his hand glowed green. He activated the Healer’s Touch skill on himself. The attempt to advance on him was utterly left unnoticed since his head was full of Xagrien’s actions.
Luis is not offended by how the male acted. A loss of a beloved parent is a trauma that everyone will experience at some point in their life but despite this, the pain is not something to gloss over.
"Let’s..." The moon elf lord trailed off while his gaze was blankly focused on the thin air in front of him. "Let’s have a short break."

It was a cold stormy day when that dreaded day happened. The fat splatters of raindrops keep on falling into the surrounding, making it wet and uncomfortable for anyone.
Xagrien could still remember that at that time, he was staying with his mother in a big cave that they dug in the side of a mountain, located at the northeastern part of Immortal’s Glade.
They have been threading along the long path of the Thilbi Mountain Ranges. Their destination was unknown to the nine-year-old Xagrien.
In this damp and cold weather, he was huddled on his mother’s side seeking warmth from his maternal bearer.
The clear and energetic voice of Mori reverberated throughout the interior of the cave and Xagrien listens to whatever stories his mother had for him.
"Your father- I mean your mother was actually the worst man that I ever encountered. You must never be like him at all costs. Or else I will fry you but to crisp if you ever had any of his traits."
"I could still remember when I refused to say that I would like to be together with him, that bastard pushed me down the cliff! I was three months pregnant at that time but that didn’t stop him from being a bastard! The heart attack that I had at that time almost made me give birth to you!" Mori animatedly recounted his memories of his mate.
"Then what happened?" Xagrien asked while playing with the edge of his mother’s clothes. Acting as if he was eager to hear more when in reality, he heard this multiple times that he lost count.
But who cares? They only have each other to keep themselves company and he liked the liveliness of his mother’s voice.
"What else? That bastard of a father, I mean your mother has to step in since I refused to say it to the last moment until I almost reached the end of the cliff. He jumped at me crying. Saying how ruthless I was to reject him. What a crybaby." Mori’s words in the end have a faint feeling of happiness.
"Mother," Xagrien called Mori. Not even a second later, a flick on his forehead immediately flew at him. "Awww."
"Father," the bearer with a perfect mix of black and violet hair corrected.
"But you are the one who gave birth to me. I keep on wondering why you’re referring to my father as my mother and you as my father. That is weird and confusing," the child asked while massaging his red forehead. His cute little mouth was pouting.
Mori lightly slapped Xagrien’s forehead. It was his way of doting.
"That’s because he lost on a bet against me and I need to uphold the consequences," Mori’s purple eyes that Xagrien inherited flashed with a subtle hint of melancholy.
"What kind of bet?"
"The details of the bet are not something to be heard by a faint-hearted child." Mori then whispered to his only son. "If you gain the right to have everything in the future, make sure that you will not be tempted by it, choose the one that you really like and stand by it. Only then you will be happy."
Mori’s voice was so soft that it lulled Xagrien to sleep. "En..." is the only response that Xagrien said.
He was happy and comfortable. So is Mori.
They forgot that during this stormy weather, even the beasts around the area will look for a place to stay.
That day, Xagrien didn’t know that would be the last casual talk that he would have with his mother. Because once he woke up, he was welcomed by a sight that never crossed his imagination.
