There's Something Wrong With You, My Lord!
Chapter 136: Remnants of the Dead

Chapter 136: Remnants of the Dead

"Huh?" Ilian could only blurt out. He was busy fending off the beasts coming at them when Xagrien suddenly appeared in front of him.

Out of curiosity, he craned his neck to see what made his friend move and there, he saw a shining creature that is made up of ice. It is a bipedal creature that has a snout that looks almost the same as a lizard. It stands two feet tall with a translucent blue body. Almost taller than Xagrien by a few inches. It has a pair of horns that emits smoke now and then.

Its sinister icicle claws extend to his friend’s fist.

Ilian gasped. What kind of beast is this?

This is not just in Ilian’s case. This question flashed in others’ minds, except for the moon elf lord who is busily looking at the system interface. It may be out of place to do that but Luis can’t help it considering that the system is weird right now!

[Congratulations! You triggered the gold-tier quest: Secrets of the Dead

Mission details: find the remnants of the fallen @#$#+-&.

Rewards: Acquired Skill; golden easter egg, 50(x2) system points and 30 (x2) EXP points

Failure: not disclosed until further notice]

’Not disclosed?’ Luis whispered, feeling the impending sense of crisis. Just how bad could that be for the system to withhold the information?! And here he is thinking that he could rely on the system in seeing the future threats, damn it!

While everyone is surprised at the sudden appearance of the creature, their moon elf lord is having some major trust issues.

"My lord!" Legland called out and the next thing they know, they are ambushed by ten creatures of the same faces.

"This is weird. I can’t estimate their strength," Nicol uttered thoughtfully. Even though he appeared to be lost in his thoughts, his orange flame is ready to burn the enemy.

"Me too, I don’t know if they are three-star beasts or not," Rean answered, in his fighting stance.

Baku has stopped moving. They are trapped!

With the fact that the appearance of this creature that looks like an ice sculpture triggered the quest, Luis gave them a closer inspection.

Its visuals remind him of a dinosaur; it’s just that their gait seemed too human.

He decisively used Cosmic Sense and he was astounded by what he saw.

"This is made purely of mana..." Xagrien said what he found out while clashing with one of these creatures. He shot a strong ray of lightning, sending the first attacker flying. But despite this, it seemed to be fine as it stood up immediately after that. "They are tough too."

Cosmic Sense proved Xagrien’s words to be correct. These are creatures that are made by magic.

No moon elf could do something like this.

Luis’ face turned spoiled, is this another case of trespassing? He felt his blood boiling.

"Is this something like the ice golem?" Olyn asked as they retreated. Ilian and Rion also did it upon seeing that their new opponents are in a different league compared to the three-star beast, flame-tailed monkey.

"No," Luis answered the brown-haired bearer’s innocent inquiry. "The stone golem is composed of real stones. However, this one is different. It’s as if it was made by a magic spell..."

"It’s a powerful Illusion Spell," Xagrien interjected. "I asked Nero what is considered the peak of magic and he said..." Xagrien paused, his entire body blanketed by waves of lightning.

"It was when your Illusion Spell could inflict physical pain." Right after he said this, two of those lizard-like creatures attacked him. It flung two thick ice cones that looked lethal but Xagrien busted them after two consecutive lightning strikes.

"Whoa!" Olyn exclaimed.

"That looks dangerous," Rion noted. If he shot his wind arrows at that pointy cone, then it would take him at least seven shots to bust them up. The young blonde youngster looked at Xagrien with even more respect. This strength is what he aspires to. He wants to be someone who could rival this man.

While the two were admiring Xagrien’s power, the moon elf lord’s focus is something else.

"An illusion shouldn’t be hard like that. It should be easy to destroy once a powerful attack hit," Luis said, his focus was on the toughness that the cone exhibited.

An illusion is not meant to cause physical harm at all. At best, it should cause mental confusion.

He is certain about it since he knew something about illusions spells because some information is available in the Inheritance. All thanks to the experiences and knowledge of Lord Gwendolyn.

But the Xagrien should be right, nothing best explains why its body was made of pure mana than it being an illusion.

Magic is governed by laws. And there are two reasons why individuals manage to break this, one is that they already achieved ten magic circles around their heart, the level of an archmage for a human being, elves, dwarves and any races that are not dragons.

Luis felt a chill thinking of the last race. These ice lizards are not connected to those beings, right?

Dragons are a race that’s beloved by mana. So even though they only have nine circles, pulling tricks like these is super easy.

’Please let this not be a sign to reunite with a mortal enemy,’ Luis prayed through his nostrils.

"We are outnumbered, you three," Luis called Ilian, Rion and Olyn. He instructed them to team up with Nicol, Legland and the other three-star warriors, Rean and Ali.

However, before they could even strike back, the ten peculiar creatures focused their attack on one individual.

"Xagrien!" Luis cried when he saw his lover being mobbed by them.

He took out his twin short sword and jumped into the fray without second thoughts.

No way in hell he would let his gong be wronged by these sketchy creatures!

So the moon elf lord carried his ass and flexibly showed his swordsmanship skills honed during the apocalypse.

"Immediately assist Xagrien and the lord!" Legland took charge of the command.

"This is..." Rean speechlessly looked at the dynamic of the couple who were fighting side by side. Each of their movements is seamlessly connected as though they are in one mind.

"They are perfect for each other," he blurted out.

Ali heard this, and the shine in his eyes dropped a few degrees colder. "That will not be for long," he whispered, none of the others heard him.

Fearing that they will burden the moon elf lord, they decided to support the couple from a distance.

On the other side, Luis is abusing his eyes and even all of his senses. He would slash one opponent, then he would look at Xagrien’s state. That is how he syncs his attack pattern to Xagrien. The reason why they seemed to be dancing.

This continued until his observation brought him to notice fine detail.

"Say, did you offend them or something?" Luis inquired in between the flurry of slashes. The bipedal ice lizard was proven to be tough and resilient. One slash doesn’t end them at all. Luis needed to hack them multiple times as though he was mincing meat.

"Why does it seem as though they are concentrating their attacks against you?" He asked his lover who was standing behind him. They are resting on each other’s backs as the remaining half of these creatures trapped them in encirclement.

"I have no idea," Xagrien said in a very weak voice.

Luis’ pointy ears twitch hearing the odd tone of his man.

"Are you wounded?" Luis immediately panicked and activated his Healer’s Touch skill.

The man is indeed injured but it was only a three shallow laceration on his chest.

Xagrien faintly laughed. It really made him feel warm and full knowing that his bearer cares for him. He naughtily snaked his hand on Luis’ wrist and caressed it. "Thank you..."

Luis hitched his breath, feeling the warmth from Xagrien’s hands.

"Seriously? In the middle of the fight?"

Luis only heard his manly giggle.

"Hmmp!" Luis rolled his eyes at Xagrien and he fixed his eyes at the ice creatures with lizard-like faces and two horns.

"Wait, why did they suddenly stop?" Luis tilted his head in confusion. He saw the blood stain on one of the creature’s blood and he knew it should be Xagrien’s.

The five figures stood still as if someone hit the pause button for them.

All of a sudden, the originally hard and cold ice turned back to its liquid state.

"My lord!" Legland hurriedly ran towards them. His thoughts were filled with worries. Because he is thinking that maybe the same thing will happen when the root crawlers turned liquid and became the base of the stone golem.

That experience deeply scarred them.

Behind his heels, the others also followed suit to Luis’ side.

"It’s fine," Luis waved his hands to signal that there is no harm.

The water that is made from magic is evaporating.

’It seems like it’s done wreaking havoc but what gives?’ the moon elf lord’s forehead creased. Something that triggered the system that exists to ensure the survival of the moon elf race actually retreated without causing much trouble?

Luis doesn’t want to believe it. He would rather believe that Xagrien’s massive dicku will not cause him to rip than the idea that a gold-tier quest is not life-threatening.

"Let’s go, "Luis felt Xagrien’s strong arms supporting his lower back, ushering him to go back.

Luis then nodded.

They had already taken a few steps when a voice sounded out of the last wisp of the evaporation. It was owned by a male, who appears tired.

"Are you fine, Mori? You should have run away."

Luis and Xagrien stopped, both of them were stiff in their positions.

He heard that name come out of Xagrien’s mouth a couple of times. The black-haired bearer cast a glance in Xagrien’s direction and in that handsome face, he saw an expression that he never thought he would see.

A surprised look with a few drops of tears lingering in his eyes.
