488: Death.

488: Death.

Even Caishen saw the warning and it caused him to raise his eyebrows.

Did this mean the game was monitored in real time?

All of the players words and actions were being watched.

“Seriously!” he exclaimed.

He pictured a team of people in his mind moving everything and everyone around like chess pieces on a board.

Was this really a an ordinary game for entertainment or some kind of simulation?

To him, it seemed more and more like the game was just as suspicious as the mystery system his wife couldn’t elaborate on.

What was the end goal of killing these monsters?

If things from the game could work in real life, what did the cores do?

Why did in game death feel real outside the game?

If your consciousness could be locked in the game as his wife said, was it a prison?

Was he overthinking things and it was just an ordinary game played to entertain the habitats on other planets.

Alix had talked about having fans on other worlds.

Were they human?

He noted down all these questions in his notebook.

He was not a player but he intended to figure these things out to protect his wife.

Majesty covered his eyes with his paws and meowed loudly.

It’s actions prompted Caishen to look at the laptop screen.

Alix and her friend had found the monsters that they were looking for.

It was not what he or Alix expected.

She thought they would be awake and active, but they were not.

Instead, they were sleeping, or appeared to be in a state of slumber.

However, they were not inside coffins or beds of any kind but rather sleeping on top of each other in a pile, forming a small hill.

Dark Death noticed that there were too many of them and she wanted to ask Alix what the game plan was.

“There…..” Alix put her hand over Dark Death’s mouth.

She shook her head, urging her partner not to say a thing.

The monsters were sleeping, not deaf.

[Congratulations players Alix and Dark Death on discovering one of the secrets of the Broken rift.

You have found a resting hub for the monsters.

Slay them and collect the cores, to get a reward.] The game notified them.

“This is going to be easy.” Dark Death whispered.

Alix didn’t think so, nothing about the game was easy as they moved to more complicated worlds.

She was right in her thinking.

Three seconds after Dark Death said that, a loud shrill siren went off.

It was extremely loud that they both had to cover their ears because whoever set it off was trying to wake up the entire world it seemed.

“Those damn game developers, this is cheating….” The blue elf cried out as well.

“Fruiting, fruiting morons.” The sleeping monsters started to awaken, opening their eyes and making small high pitched unrecognizable noises as they communicated like bugs.

All of them turned their very hostile gazes onto Alix and Dark Death.

“Shit, oh we are so screwed.” Dark Death didn’t wait for a single second and she started shooting randomly.

“What do we do now?” Even though her shooting was precise, their were at least three hundred of the monsters and only two of them.

In terms of numbers and strength they were at a disadvantage so it was best to retreat as fast as they could.

The monsters were speedy in attacking and coming after them and soon they were overwhelmed.

“Fuck you, game developers.” Dark Death screamed.

Alix didn’t fall behind in shooting as she moved backwards.

She set the gun on rapid mode and it kept firing shots automatically but even that was not enough.

Some of the monsters passed above and blocked them from behind.

One used it’s long claws to stab Dark Death in the stomach.

Alix got her sword and cut off it’s arm.

Abandoning the gun as the monsters were now upon them, she resorted to a sword fight but it was a hopeless fight and she knew this too.

“Protective formation and active your shield.” Dark death yelled.

They both activated a shield which surrounded them as they resumed their back to back formation.

They were aware that the shields would not hold for long.

The monsters were aiming all their energy at the shields and every hit weakened them.

“New plan….” Dark Death said.

But she stopped there.

Her mind was blank.

“What’s the plan Alix?” Alix eyes were moving fast as she kept up with the calculations of the system.

Since it hadn’t seen the siren coming, it had not factored this possibility into the equation.

“Death.” Those words appeared on her virtual screen.

“It’s the only solution now, you must die with them..” The system explained.

Alix looked left and right, there were some particularly big guys among the monsters.

They were the size of final bosses and gave off that kind of feeling as well.

Given the energy she and Dark Death had left, they couldn’t take those guys on.

It would be a quick brutal death for them both if they tried.

One of the monsters was banging on the shields with large meaty fists, causing them to fracture.

“We have to die.” she said.

“Errrrr…..” Dark Death was like a broken computer waiting to receive another command.

Alix put her swords away and started activating all of the grenades she had.

“Activate your grenades, bombs and whatever you have that explodes.

If we are going to die, we should at least take as many of them with us as possible.” “Awwww….” Dark Death whined.

“I have died too many times Alix.” Mercilessly, Alix looked at her and said, “It’s either a one and done kind of death through an explosion or you wait for them to tear you apart with their claws.

Which death do you think is more painful?” Dark Death stopped whining and spoke into a watch on her wrist.

Every grenade on her body and in her bag pack was activated.

The two of them even threw others on the ground, and the count down started.

“Well, here we go.” Alix jumped up and down.

As soon as the shields came down, she yelled like a warrior facing a beast and jumped up.

She landed on the head of the big monster which had been punching the shields and latched on as if for dear life.

“Fruit you game developers.” she screamed, from deep in her throat.

Her screams were mixed in with a bang, as a big explosion went off and immediately, she died.
