It clocked eleven in the night and everyone was still at the mall because work was still ongoing.

Alix was stuck to aunty Mo’s side like gum on the heel of her shoe, following wherever her mother went.

“We are all tired, we should go home and get some sleep.” Auntie Mo suggested.

“Hmmm.” Alix responded.

Both women stood up just as the bright lights around the wall surrounding the fountain came on.

After the lights, the water fountain too came alive.

“The pressure is still low.” Auntie Mo muttered.

Alix twisted her mouth around.

Yes, the pressure was still low but she was just too tired to deal with it again and she couldn’t tie the Tai’s here any longer.

“I am sure it will be working fine by tomorrow.

You have done enough mom, you should be in bed by now.

Knowing you, you will be here by six or seven in the morning tomorrow.

Slowly, as they walked towards the exit, others joined them and wished them a goodnight.

Everyone got into their cars and set off for their homes.

Though a window in the temple opposite the school, a man and a woman were watching Alix’s mall using binoculars.

The man was dressed in black, like a soldier of the night while the woman wore the standard green soldier outfit.

Both were focused on the fleet of three cars which belonged to Alix as it pulled away from the mall.

“So, which side do you think she will join?” the woman asked the man.

The man put down the binoculars and turned his head to the woman.

“She has not yet been confirmed to be one of us.

Aren’t you jumping the gun?”  “She got rid of Lai Yanfang, of course she is one of us.” The woman answered with an obvious quality to her voice.

Basically, the only word she didn’t use was ‘duh!’ Lai Yanfang had been a dangerous woman, one that no ordinary human could simply approach because of her hypnosis abilities.

The man didn’t respond to her and instead, he climbed onto the sill of the window and slowly fell down with his arms spread out.

“Tsk, that arrogant bastard pisses me off so much.” the woman muttered.

She took a peak down and saw a magpie taking off, following the fleet of cars from above.

She put away the binoculars and walked to the corner of the bed were two sleeping bags had been folded up neatly.

She unfolded one and pulled a packet of instant noodles from a bag.

Then, she pulled out a jar of Alix’s beef jerky with a logo of Holea’s cafe.

She also opened a can of beer and returned to the open window, taking a look at the flakes of snow falling down from the sky.

She raised the can to the sky.

“To Lai Yanfang, one stupid host down.”  Inside the car, Alix was opening the car window because Majesty kept pawing at it, trying to peek outside for some unknown reason.

Too tired to argue with her cat, she lowered the car window and gave in to it as it wished.

Majesty stuck his head outside and stood on his paws which were digging into Alix’s thighs really hard.

The cat looked up at the sky curiously and he meowed.

“Alix, there is a strange bird in the sky which sometimes follows us.

It’s a magpie, a little magpie.

Too small to satisfy me, but tasty anyway.” Alix frowned, greatly.

How had she ended up with two silly gluttons whose minds went to eating when they saw strange things?

One wanted to eat other systems and another wanted to eat strange birds.

“Don’t i feed you enough?” she asked the cat.

She tugged it back forcefully and closed the window because snow was coming in through it.

That snow would melt and then it would be wet everywhere.

Majesty proved to be uncooperative and he struggled, trying to get back to the window.

It’s meowing became louder and more irritating.

“I want to eat the bird.”  “No.” she answered strongly.
