The Young master's fake bride and her lucky system
Chapter 379 - 379 The price of arrogance

379: The price of arrogance.

379: The price of arrogance.

“What an idiot!” he exclaimed.

“I bet he is going to fail.” Not so far from Yang Wangshu, Jia Yi scowled.

She was like a stalker or maybe she was truly was one as she always kept an eye and ear on Wangshu.

The fact that both of them were violin players who shouldn’t have been in a class for celloists in the first place did not even strike anyone as odd because they always made it a point to attend all of Alix’s classes as long as their schedules allowed.

It didn’t matter which class it was, as long as Alix was teaching, they were there.

“Wangshu, why don’t you show everyone how it’s done instead of smirking arrogantly?” She said.

“Hey, stalker, i am a violinist, remember?” he responded.

Satisfied with his response, he leaned back in the chair with his hands behind his head.

He didn’t waste time looking at a seething Jia Yi who had turned as red as a cherry with anger after being called a stalker.

Normally, their feud was a famous source of entertainment for other students but today, all ears and eyes were at the front.

Mu Ke had started playing his cello.

He was sitting on a chair that Jenny had pulled to the center at the front.

Mu Ke was facing the piano, and his eyes were on the canaries.

Youthful confidence that bordered on pure arrogance was exuded from his body as he moved his fingers along the strings, playing the same melody which won him and Qing An Ran the prize at the winter cello competition?

“Wow, senior Mu is so handsome when he is playing.”  “Isn’t that the song of mother canary which won the competition?”  “Why does it look like the canaries are unhappy?” Students muttered this and that as Mu Ke played, whispering what they thought of his playing.

Many of them watched him with envy, very sure that he was going to pass.

Three minutes in, however, the canaries remained silent and the orchid dull.

With two minutes left on the clock, Mu Ke started to sweat and panic, which in turn caused him to falter and make a mistake.

The teachers and those with sharp ears caught the mistake and they knew he would fail immediately.

As for Mu Ke, after making a mistake and playing the wrong note, his hand froze.

This was one of his weaknesses that Alix often told him to watch out for.

If he made a mistake, he would freeze entirely like an ice cube, incapable of going on.

But when one was playing on a grand stage, freezing was worse than making a mistake.

Mu Ke had not learned yet how to just continue on as if the mistake was nothing but a small bump which could not stop his journey.

“Aah, like i said, idiot.” Yang Wangshu said loudly.

Some students looked back at him while others became more nervous.

“Failed.” Jenny said casually.

“Who is next?”  She didn’t take time to comfort Mu Ke that walked back to his seat like a sad rat which had almost drowned.

Not a single hand in the classroom went up.

First of all, nobody had seen a reaction from the birds or the orchid which confused them.

Secondly, if Mu Ke the so called best celloist in class had failed, did the rest of them stand a chance?

Nobody was eager to get down there and fail.

“I guess i will have to use the roll call then.” Jenny said.

She opened the desk and took out three papers on which the names of all cello students from first year to third were recorded.

The names would be called in alphabetical order.

It was not the first time a roll call was being used during a test.

Today, however, those whose names came first were terrified.

Jia Yu, came to the rescue by raising her hand and she said, “Assistant Jenny, can we watch sister Susu play first?” “Yes.”  “I agree.”  “Please.” All around, different students made the same plea.

Jenny nodded.

Susu stood up gracefully, cognizant of all the eyes on her.

She walked over to the shiny brown piano and opened the lid.

Then, she sat down and took a deep breath.

She was holding her hands together with her eyes closed when she took in that deep breath.

It was as if she was saying a prayer.

“I was waiting for senior Susu to do that before playing the piano.” someone whispered.

Some of the junior sisters from the piano department had copied her move and spread it around school so it was not strange to see her or another person doing it.

Then, Susu started playing with a gentle smile on her face.

Unlike Mu Ke who played his cello with arrogance, Susu was refined and gentle, appearing to be engrossed in what she was doing and loving it.

Her choice of song however caused many heads to turn and many faces to frown.

She didn’t pick something complicated as expected but rather, the simplest song to play which little children of age five and six could also play with some training.

“Is that the ice cream truck song?” one of the teachers asked?

“It’s so simple.” Her fellow teachers concurred.

It really was one of the simplest songs on earth.

This was one of those songs you would find playing automatically in a children’s piano toy.

“It’s not the simplicity or difficulty of song choice.” One of the female teachers said.

“It’s how she is playing it.

It’s somehow joyful and…..soft, smooth, and not annoying.”  The teacher that spoke up was one of those people that found ice cream truck songs irritating.

Suddenly the canaries came to life, and sounds started coming from their small beaks.

Their own singing was even almost louder than the soft playing of the piano.

They moved from one end of the piano to the other, singing energetically.

And then, the musical orchid opened up as well and it’s yellow light glowed.

It was like the golden sun was rising inside of the classroom.

The yellow glow fell on Susu and she smiled even more broadly.

What everyone didn’t know was that she was scared as well, terrified to fail in front of all the people here watching her, heavily expectant.

She had practiced this simple ice cream truck song with Alix almost twenty times before the orchid opened up for her.

“Oh my God.” “It opens up, the flower actually opens up.”  “Where is the light coming from?”  “The canaries really know how to follow the tune professionally.”  Naturally, whispers followed after the birds and orchid reacted.

They all came to realize and understand what reaction was needed.

As they swallowed their curiosities about the glowing orchid, they wondered if they could replicate what Susu had done.

It was just an ice cream truck song, how hard could it be?

Meanwhile, Susu slowly wrapped up the song and came to a stop.

She stood up, bowed and then left the classroom amidst a small applause.

“Aang Baohu.” Jenny wasted no time in calling the next student, a boy whose intention was to play an ice cream truck song.

Five minutes later, Jenny loudly pronounced “Failed.”  Ten more people went after him and they all failed, unexpectedly.

Most of the students were either excited at the challenge or cursing their teacher for the challenge she had presented them.

Even the teachers were not sure if this was a challenge they could conquer and they planned to participate but only in private.

“We are all going to fail, it’s hopeless.” Someone mumbled.
