For sure, I am losing my mind.

I see the way they have been looking at me since last night. I wanted to tell them how I felt about the whole situation but I didn’t want to look like the crazy one. The book is supposed to be evil--anything associated with the book is supposed to be evil, so why do I think that I can actually trust the girl.

Why do I feel like she actually needs my help?

I am seated on the bed; it is late in the afternoon and I haven’t heard anything from Blue and his dad. Jules is supposed to help me get someone that understands what is going on.

the door opens and Rex walks in with a faint smile on his face. He has joined Blue in treating me like there is something wrong with me. They are now both walking on eggshells around me.

"You hungry?’’ he asks me as I drop my phone to the bed.

"No,’’ I tell him because I haven’t even had the energy to think about food.

"Are you sure, you haven’t had any blood today, I could go to the main house and get something for you?’’

I sit up on the bed, resting my back on the headboard "No, I am fine," I assure him as he walks further into the room. He slowly walks to the table and sits on the edge of it.

"So, have you heard from this woman again?’’

I shake my head, he nods. "You can come closer to me. I am not contagious.’’ I sigh because I don’t like the distance we have right now.

he jumps up from the bed and walks over to me. He is standing in front of me, looking at me like he is trying to figure me out.

"What are you thinking about?" I ask him, he shakes his head. I want to know his stance on all that has happened.

"I just need you to be safe, through all this, I keep worrying and thinking the worst. like something terrible will happen to you."

He is scared.

I am scared too. "I am safe right now," I assure him. He nods. I stand up from the bed and grab his hands in mine "Come here,’’ I pull him into my arms. he rests his head in the crook of my neck and I feel his breathing against me. it is soft and steady.

"I just want things to be normal. Why does life have to come with so many problems?" he asks.

"This is just a test of our strength. don’t worry about anything. it will be fine.’’

He pulls away from me slightly "You don’t think so. I can sense how you feel. you are worried and scared. I don’t need you to hide your fear from me."

His hands are clutching my shirt in a tight grip. I don’t know but I feel like he is trying to hold unto me.

"What if I make a promise to be okay, would that help?’’

He shakes his head "You can’t promise what you don’t know.’’

I sigh, he is right. I don’t know what will happen tomorrow but I want to try to be strong for him.

Help me.

The voice comes out again. this catches me off guard and makes me end up pushing Rex out of my grip. He falls to the floor. he stands up immediately and walks over to me. I can’t focus because I feel her shadow roaming around the room. the sun is bright and the weather is warm but her presence makes me cold.

"Are you okay?’’ he asks me trying to touch me, but I move away from him immediately. there is a hurt expression on his face and I don’t blame him. I just shoved him like I didn’t want anything to do with him.

"I am sorry, I just heard her again,’’ I tell him honestly because there is no need to hide this from him.

I am still here Gyles, please stop trying to block me out of your head.

Her voice echoes around the room which makes me get up from the bed, because there is no escaping her.

"I didn’t ask for this, leave me alone,’’ I scream out loud, confusing Rex even more. my voice travels around the room, but she doesn’t respond or even acknowledge my plea.

"Baby,’’ Rex manages in complete and utter confusion.

I look at him and he is watching me carefully as if trying to figure out how to deal with this.

"I can’t block her out of my mind, I don’t know why or how, but she is in my head. she is trying to talk to me and I don’t know how to make her stop.’’

he nods and reaches for me again, grabbing my arm softly. this time, I let him touch me. "Maybe you should listen to her. you have been trying to block her all this while but it seems like she has something to say to you, so maybe all you need to do is listen to her."

I take a deep breath because I am all out of options. she is never going to let me go and as long as I keep fighting this, I will be tortured.

"I don’t know how to,’’ I confess.

Rex smiles "come on,’’ he tells me, leading me out of the room and out of the house. We keep Walking until we are outside and the fresh air hits me.

"Where are we going?’’ I ask him.

"Somewhere you can concentrate,’’ he doesn’t let go of my hand as he tells me.

We keep walking until we get to the field.

"We are going to sit here and all you have to do is listen to her. I will be next to you, so you won’t be alone.’’

I nod and we both sit on the grass. I close my eyes and take a deep breath, trying to calm down all the nerves.

"Just close your eyes and meditate, I am sure she will come to you," he mutters quietly being very helpful right now. I obey his commands because I have nothing to lose.

I have to face this head-on.
