Chapter 394: The book

Gyles

There is a woman in my room.

A woman that I have never met in my life but somehow, it feels like I know who she is. There is this vague familiarity surrounding me right now.

"How did you get in?’’ I ask her, my hands are shaking. I know that I might win in a fight but I don’t even know what is real anymore.

is she even here right now?

The door didn’t even fucking open.

it is almost like she just appeared out of nowhere.

"We need to talk,’’ she manages, taking a step towards me. I move backward because I don’t even want to be close to her. this is another thing that will happen because of me. if I had just stayed with them, instead of running, none of this would have happened.

"Who are you?’’ I ask her, my voice still shaking.

her voice sounds very familiar.

I don’t know where I have heard it before. it’s one of those things that you feel but can’t pinpoint. Her dress is messy and it looks like it is has been ripped in some places. in fact, she doesn’t even look harmful. "Who are you?’’ I ask her again, this time a little more demanding. I look down at her legs and she is barefoot. there are cuts on her leading all the way up to her knee where the dress stops.

"You know who I am,’’ she whispers in a low tone. I furrow my brows in confusion because this is all so very confusing to me.

"I don’t know you; I have never met you in my fucking life,’’ I shout at her. I am losing my cool and I can feel my heart racing faster than it ever has before.

"Think about it, you know my voice,’’ she walks over to me and this time, I don’t withdraw from her. there is a weakness, a pull that seems all too familiar.

just the same way, the voices have control of me.

Fuck, the voices.

That is why she sounds so familiar.

She is one of the voices in my head, which just means that she is not real. This is just another one of their powers.

"Why are you here?’’ I ask her with a lump inside my throat.

"We need your help.’’

I close my eyes as she tries to bore into them. her eyes are brown and very engulfing. I feel like I am a prisoner, trapped with no way of ever being free.

"You are not real, this is all in my head,’’ I let out soft huffs. maybe this is just me trying to convince myself.

"Yes, I am not here right now but I am real. this is actually happening and the more you fight it, the harder it will be for you,’’ she tells me, her voice is steady and calm. I open my eyes and she is still watching me.

"I don’t want this, I never asked for this.’’

She nods "you need to see the bigger picture. We are not evil like you think. this is not about the book."

"What do you want from me?’’

She looks away from me and for a second, I watch her walk away from me and to the bed. I watch her pick up something from the floor. unable to see it from where I am standing, I wait for her to turn around and when I see it in her grip, my heart starts to race. I walk over to the door because this is insane.

"Why is this here, what the fuck is going on,’’ I stutter in complete and utter confusion. she ignores my questions and walks over to me, the book still in her grasp. Blue took the book with him, why is this here, in my room? She hands over the book to me and I stare at it in complete shock.

"What is this?’’ I whisper. She looks back at me and for a moment, her eyes are sad. I think this is the first time I am actually seeing the pain in them.

"You know what this is. this is the only connection we have. You can’t let it go yet."

"Why do I need to be connected to you? why won’t you just leave me alone,’’ I cry. I am terrified. I have never felt this much fear in my life. I have been through a lot. I have lost so many people but this is the first time I am this terrified.

"We need you; we don’t have a physical body so we need to use this as a medium.’’

"I can’t help you. I am the last person that can help you. you have to believe me." I try to convince them that they are making a mistake trusting me. I look at the book and my hands tremble as I try to keep it steady.

"You are the only one that can help us.’’

She reaches for my hand and tears well up in my eyes. I try to pull away from her but she is too strong. "We are not evil; we just need your help,’’ she repeats.

"Why me? I am not the right person for this. I just want to be left alone,’’ I beg her with so much desperation.

with her hand still on mine, she manages a faint smile "They all say that you were chosen because of your weakness but I chose you because you are strong. You are the only one that can help us."

I hear the door of my room turn and in a split second, she vanishes into thin air. I look at my hand and the book is still in my grip. I don’t even have the chance to hand it over as the door to my room opens and Blue walks in. His eyes dart from my face to my hand. I know he sees the book too because of the shocked expression on his face.

"What the fuck is this?’’ he manages still confused.

I wish I had the answer for that.
