The Werewolf's Vampire Mate -
Chapter 34: Reassurance.
Chapter 34: Reassurance.
Alanis
"No."
"Darrien, a kid is dying," I bellow from the shock that he would be so quick to say no. Eligio laughs because this is somehow amusing to him. I pace around the four walls of his room and Darrien still has a frown on his face. I still wonder why he hates me so much.
We never had any form of connection; I have connected with every one of my family but it never clicked with us.
"This is a wolf you’re talking about. I will never use my powers for the good of them." I sigh because I can’t believe I left Beau and came home to try to convince him and he is refusing "El, please talk some sense into your brother."
This gets another laugh from him ’’Come on D, you can’t say no to family’’ he is pleading on my behalf.
Darrien scoffs ’’I hate Alanis, so I don’t give a shit,’’ he Is being his usual honest self. The fact that somehow, I am his sworn enemy makes this easier for him. Me being hurt doesn’t mean a thing to him.
’’I don’t hate you, I never did,’’
He rolls his eyes and heads for the door, I grab his shoulders and stop him from leaving ’’Please, this is my link’s brother. You are my family; you have to help me.’’
He turns around facing me and releases a sigh ’’Fuck’’ he runs his hands through his hair. ’’Fine, bring him here.’’
"Please, we need you there, he is not strong enough to be carried around." I am asking for a lot more by asking him to go to Wolf’s turf.
"I am not going there," he shakes his head immediately.
I can sense that he doesn’t even like the fact that I am asking him for this favour, but i also know that he feels like he has no choice but to help me. This is a lot to ask Darrien, considering the fact that he hates my guts.
"Please, El, say something to him." I face my other brother who in turn releases a sigh of frustration. He runs his hands through his hair and faces Darrien.
"I will go with you if you agree to this. Just do this for him. Be a good brother for once." he pleads on my behalf and I am grateful for that.
"What is the harm in bringing the mutt here, he is already dying. Carrying him about wouldn’t do any more harm," he rolls his eyes.
"Please," I beg.
He looks at me for a couple of seconds before sighing loudly. he huffs his reply and a smile crawls to my face "Fine, let’s get this over with." he walks out of my room and I am completely content.
"Father will be home in a couple of hours," El informs me.
"We have to go back, Moe is not in good condition," I explain to him.
"But you need to come back home later. We don’t know what father discussed with the fore ones. This fight involves us, those fucking vamps are trying to tarnish our names by doing this, we have to help the wolves."
my heart warms at his words because from the beginning I knew this was going to be the case but at any off chance that my family refused to involve themselves in this; I would’ve been heartbroken.
"We should get back before it’s too late," I tell El and he nods.
********************
We walk into the compound of the community and everywhere is quiet. It is almost noon and no one is outside. I know beau said he advised everyone to stay indoors but I hate that they are subjected to this lifestyle. Living in fear for doing absolutely nothing.
I see a couple of people guarding different parts of the compound. They all look angry and I can’t blame them.
"They live like savages," Darrien mutters with a scoff.
He is being his usual jerk self but I can’t say anything to him because I need him. The fact that he came here even though he hates the wolves makes me appreciative.
Beau walks out of his house almost like he knew I was around. he has a wide smile on his face—happy to see me. I walk until I am in close proximity with him "Hi," I say walking even closer and into his arms. It’s been less than an hour since I saw him but I miss him terribly.
"Hi," he breathes out.
There is this feeling that you get deep within from being with your other half. All the while we were apart, I felt empty, incomplete. If I were to be apart from him for a month or two I would be a shell of myself. I guess that’s what the bond in a link means.
"He came, for a while, I thought you’d be unable to bring him," he whispers into my ear.
I chuckle "I had to do a lot of grovelling."
"Thank you," he kisses the crook of my neck softly and I am happy to have been the one responsible for the smile on his face. I want to make him happy, I always want to be there for him, true his sadness and joy. I want to be his safe haven. From this moment until the day I die, I will live for him.
"Can we get this over with?" Darrien interrupts with an angry glare. We pull apart from each other and Eligio laughs at the situation. This is amusing to him, he doesn’t have to worry about anything but being a spectator.
"Hello, again Darrien...Eligio," Beau greets them with a smile still on his face.
"Where is the mutt?" Darrien asks.
I roll my eyes, he is being intentionally rude to him. I can see that much but like I said I will be at his mercy until he does this.
"At the infirmary," Beau leads us until we get to the infirmary. we walk into the building and it is dull with barely any lights. It looks very archaic. This doesn’t even seem like a hospital but I guess this is the way they have lived and they have been doing okay.
"The healers gave him all the herbs to aid his healing faster but they said he is still bleeding internally, nothing they have done has been able to stop the bleeding. He won’t survive the end of the day," beau explains and I feel even worse. They didn’t just end his misery, what Cassius and his group did was intentional. they wanted him to suffer in pain, they wanted everyone to witness it. See what they could do.
"I will take care of it,"
An elderly lady comes into view and she smiles when she sees beau "Hey Alma, how is he holding up?"
The lady shakes her head slowly, her hair is silver-grey and packed up in a tight bun. she is dressed in a loose white dress with a black belt. She almost looks like a nurse
"Still the same?"
She points to the three of us "Who are they?" there is curiosity in her eyes.
"He is my mate," he pulls me closer and I watch the shock form on her face. She didn’t expect him to be so open about it. I thought everyone already knew about us. Why is she still surprised?
"I thought they were rumours. So, it is true?"
He nods "We need to see him."
She leads us into the room and it is quiet, except for the beeping of a machine. he is lying down on the bed and as I move closer to him I see that he is even worse than the first time I saw him. Darrien reaches for him and I watch him as he brushes his fingers on his face softly "His heartbeat is deteriorating."
"Can you save him?" Beau asks.
"Give me a minute, lemme see what I can do," he places his palm on Moe’s chest and closes his eyes. I watch him because I have seen him do this a million times before. It is beautiful to see life come back to someone who is already losing it. Moe’s breathing is faint, I can see his chest rise and fall but it is not obvious unless you look closely. Darrien takes a long breath and I watch as the veins on the sides of his eyes come out. They are a dingy green and it looks like it hurts. His breath quickens and I hold mine as I wait to see progress. All you have to do is look closely and you will see. Moe is still breathing faintly but I notice the difference. If you listen closely, you will hear It. I can hear the rhythm of his beating heart and It is already different from when we walked in.
beau doesn’t seem to know what is happening, he can’t feel what I am feeling right now "Is this working?" he whispers to me.
i nod immediately "Just relax, Darrien’s got this," I assure him. At this moment, I am so sure that he is going to be alright.
"You should leave us," Darrien says suddenly opening his eyes. He glares at Beau and I realize we are distracting. I nod my head and drag Eli and Beau out of the room. Beau is hesitant and I understand that he doesn’t trust Darrien alone with Moe but we have to give him a chance to do this.
Eli smiles "He’s got this," he points to the door of the room and I release a sigh of relief. I don’t know who is trying to convince though because he looks like he is not completely sure. Darrien is not the best person in our family. He has his demons; he doesn’t trust anyone. He has lived his life not completely believing the love we all have for each other.
He is unsure of the pact we took to become a family. I have never really tried to understand him because he never let me in but the fact that he is doing this for me is showing me a new light, I am going to let him. I am going to love him completely.
I watch beau as he takes a sit on one of the benches, this area looks like a waiting area. The idea of this place was to make it look like a hospital, but this is no hospital. I walk over to the bench and place my hand on his shoulder, he looks up and manages a smile. I can see his eyes, his eyes show all the emotions the rest of his face hides. His eyes are not smiling. He is battling a lot right now; he needs a win. If this works, he will have that win he deserves.
"Moe will be alright," I tell him assuring.
The smile remains on his face as he grabs my hand and places a soft kiss on it. He squeezes my hand gently and I know he has the reassurance he needed.
