The Werewolf's Vampire Mate -
Chapter 35: Knowing what to do
Chapter 35: Knowing what to do
Beau
Waiting is the worst.
Waiting when you are not sure of the outcome, that is what I am doing right now. It has been an hour, Darrien hasn’t come out of the room. The suspense is killing me.
Lanis doesn’t seem to be worried, he said it’ll be alright and I completely trust him but I don’t trust his brother. I know the guy hates Lan, what I don’t know if he intends to actually help us right now.
"Stop fidgeting,"
I look at my boyfriend "I am okay, totally not fidgeting," i tell him.
He chuckles and I realize my legs are shaking continuously. He places his hand on my right leg in an attempt to stop the shaking "Take a deep breath and relax."
I follow his instructions and try for the breathing exercise but the door open and reveals Darrien. His expression is blank and doesn’t give me a hint of what he has done. I don’t know if he was successful, all I know at this moment is that he is done trying.
’’Is he okay?" I stand up from the bench and run over to him. He nods his head immediately. I smell him before he comes into view and as I see my uncle, anger seeps from withing.
"You brought more vampires here," he is shouting. His eyes are red, I know this look and it is not a good one to witness. This is the anger of an Alpha; this anger only comes out when the wolf has been suppressed for too long. Fallon is angry and I don’t know why.
"They came to help,’ I try to tell him but he is already too far gone to understand or even comprehend my words. He pushes me away from Darrien and I hit my back on the wall. The pain is the least I’m worried about.
"Vampires do nothing but hurt others, just because you are the only defective one to mate with one doesn’t mean it is suddenly okay to bring them here," he walks over to me and grabs me by my collar. He is losing control of himself; he seems to have forgotten that I am the Alpha.
"Take your hands off me," I warn him.
At this point, I know Alanis wants to intervene. Darrien and Eligio are watching, they are a little calm. "You are just a fucking kid, you do not tell me what to do," he pulls me by my collar and tosses me to the other direction of the hallway. Alanis runs over to me and picks me up from the floor, I frown because I don’t want him to help me right now. I need to handle this on my own "You even need your boyfriend to fight your battles, this is the Alpha that was chosen for us," he laughs like somehow, he is so hilarious.
"Take Eligio and Darrien to the house. I will be okay," I tell him.
He shakes his head in disagreement "No, I can help you."
"I need to do this on my own, this is my chance to show him that he can’t push me around.’’ at this point Fallon is just watching, waiting for my next move. I don’t want to fight him, he is the only family I have left and the most important person to father, he meant the world to him. He looked up to him.
"Go," Lanis nods and I watch him leave with his brothers.
i stand up on my own with the most serious expression I can muster. Fallon laughs, I am not a threat to him. I don’t want to hurt him; he is family after all.
"You are weak boy," I walk over to him until I am close enough.
"I am the Alpha."
He laughs louder "You are nothing,"
I feel the anger boiling within, he is picking at my wounds. Trying to hurt me with his words. He will never accept me as the Alpha, that was father’s wish. He wanted me to grow to be a great leader, he trained me all his life, to make sure I was a good person.
No one can tell me otherwise; I know who I am.
"You are bitter because you never had your chance to shine. You never got what you wanted and now you think you can snap your fingers and just take it from me."
Glaringly he breathes heavily "You will die from one battle because of the vampires."
I don’t know what he is trying to prove but his words are not hurting me. I won’t die because I have a mate that will fight alongside me. I won’t die because I have a whole new family that will fight with me.
"That’s where you are wrong, I will live because of the vampires."
With those final words, I walk away from him.
**********
I enter the room where Moe is and I feel it immediately. I feel him getting better. His breathing is different, the blood flowing through his veins. I know that Darrien did it, he said he would and he was true to his words. I move until I am closer to him. He is still sleeping, the only difference now, is that his breathing is better.
Alma walks onto the room "How is he?" she asks and walks over to him.
"He is okay, at least I think he is," she checks his heartbeat and shock forms on her face. The confusion is etched to her face as she asks "What happened?"
She wants to know how someone that could barely breathe is suddenly okay. I smile because I know what happened and deep down, she knows too.
"Vampires?"
I nod.
"Why are they helping us, this all seems so impossible," she voices out her concerns. I know why they are helping but I also know that they are not bad people. I have no doubt in my mind that Lanis is good person. This connection we have opened my eyes. Makes me see things clearly. The fact that Darrien who hates our kind so much would do this, says a lot about the kind of person he is.
"This is who they really are,"
She nods "Are we going to be okay, with them hunting us?"
"I will protect us," I assure her.
Moe groans out in discomfort and out attention shifts to him. His eyes open slowly and I smile as he attempts to sit up "You should stay the way you are," I tell him because his injuries are still healing and he must be sore.
He furrows his brow as he squints his eyes not completely understanding what is happening. Upon recognition he calls my name "Beau."
I smile "You’re okay," I assure him.
With his eyes open and visibility clear I ask him, I reach out for him comfortingly "Next time, please don’t fight alone,"
"They w..w..wan..ted an ambush," he relays the night and the anger in me resurfaces. I hate Cassius more now. He came into my turf and attacked my people. It is the utmost disrespect.
"You should rest now," I pat him gently and he nods "Your mother has been worried." I inform him as I leave him and go into my house.
I hear their voices in the living room, I guess someone took them there. It makes more sense than staying in my room. Lanis is the first person to see me and he jumps up immediately. He must have been worried. He runs over to me and I am in his arms at once.
"You’re okay," he mutters examining my whole body for injuries. I smile because he is being overprotective and I guess I have to get used to that now. I have someone in my life now that would worry about my well being irrevocably.
"I told you I would be," I press my lips to his, not giving a shit that we are not alone. This is me accepting this relationship wholeheartedly. This is me, taking all that he is and giving him all that I am. Lanis kisses me back and he is more aggressive than I intended this to be. Our lips move together in sync and I wrap my arms around his waist to get closer to him. We kiss and no one interrupts us, I kiss him until i am content and when we pull apart from each other, i rest my forehead on his, smiling sheepishly.
"I will be the one to protect you, I will always protect you," I breathe those words into his ears and the air, laying claim on him for the rest of our lives. I know what I have to do now. I know what I need to do to keep him safe. I can’t wait for Cassius to come; I have to look for him. I have to bury the people we have lost; I have to complete the mating ritual and then I have to kill CASSIUS.
