Chapter 45: Was she saved by the system
It was a dream, Abrielle’s heart felt bitter at that thought. She thought that she was back at her comfy apartment and finally going on her long dreamt date with Lucian. She had fantasized about it so much that it haunted her in her dreams.
Why was she so damn unlucky that she had to be Abrielle? Why did it have to be this book where everything seemed to be after her life?
She never even wished to be the female lead who went through hell with the excuse of character development. She should have been an extra character from a noble family who had an easy life and was not fated to die. Abrielle Nightshade was fated to die at the hands of Cedric Von Drakkar.
She was disoriented with her head hazy, someone was hugging her. His hug was comfortable and warm. It felt warm. "Cedric." She muttered, unable to believe that he was hugging her. Why the hell was Cedric Von Drakkar hugging her?!
His strong masculine scents that smelled like herbs and sandalwood were weirdly comforting. Why did it feel like she was enjoying his hug? She must have lost her nuts.
The shock was an understatement of what the dear villainess felt at the moment. She was still grieving over the fact Cedric had practically dragged out of her biggest fantasy. She was about to go out on a date with Lucian.
Cedric broke the hug and then narrowed his eyes on her. "Why do you look like you are not happy to see me?" Cedric asked Abrielle after he broke the hug, and she was like, why the hell should she be happy to see him.
She was trying her best to escape him, but she knew she had to control her expression so as not to instigate this psycho.
"I am happy to see you just a bit stunned that Your Highness was hugging me." She replied, which was half true.
"I was worried, I can’t have the niece of the high pope and the daughter of the Vesper duchy dying in my care," Cedric answered. Abrielle had to do her best not to roll her eyes at him. He was not scared of her family.
"I thought you said you were not scared of my family." She asked him with a dry smile.
"I am not scared of your family but it will be a shame for you to die when I am not the one that ends your life. You are really as pathetic as they said. You could not withstand a simple witch attack." He scoffed at her. Abrielle was puzzled. One minute, he was glad she was awake and now he was talking down on her.
’ Why are you even bothering to try to understand him? He is a freaking psychopath, a sociopath. He is everything bad and I wrote him this way. I should have given him a bit of empathy.’ she felt like crying.
The window rattled with a cold moist breeze blowing into the room that made her shiver. Cedric was nice enough to cover her with more blankets then walked up to the window to shut it.
Her eyes were on the window panel, which had frost on it. They immediately went wide like saucers and sparkled. Snow, it was snowing. Winter was here!!
"How long have I been unconscious?" She asked Cedric, he was dressed in a simple black shirt paired with black trousers. He really loved black; she should have made him more interesting than a monotone character.
From his appearance, she could guess he had been indoors. Cedric brushed his slender fingers through the dark hair that was spilling over her face. He hadn’t packed it like he usually did.
"You have been unconscious for 2 weeks," Cedric informed her, and her jaw dropped. 2 weeks? How was that possible?
"That’s long," Abrielle muttered, it must explain why her body felt so heavy. She had been married to Cedric for just 3 weeks and had had 3 near to death experiences already.
"Yeah, the castle was peaceful during that period," Cedric mentioned, it sounded like he was happy when she was unconscious, but his actions said otherwise.
He walked up to her and then placed his palm on her forehead; her eyes darted around this room, which was different from hers. The sheets smelled like Cedric and she could not help but ask. "Is this your room?"
"Your room was destroyed by the attack, and it was unsafe to leave you in a room alone while being so vulnerable, knowing there might be another attack. I don’t trust a lot of people." He explained. She wondered if they shared the same bed.
"Where did you sleep?" She inquired further, Cedric pulled his hand from her forehead. "Your fever has reduced, but it’s still there." He answered instead.
His eyes met her blue eyes that were squinted at him. A long sigh left his lips, he never understood his actions when it came to her. Why did he care about her health knowing all she wants is to see him dead? His entire life, he has never cared about whether someone died or not; neither did anyone care about his survival.
His existence was a bane in their sight. Now they all want him dead after he grew into the monster they made him. "Where else will I sleep aside from my bed by my wife’s side?" He said with a straight face like it was so natural.
Her lips parted and closed, amusing him at her reaction. She was lost for words, but it was expected. "What happened to Sarah?" Abrielle was unconscious and had no idea of Sarah’s suicide.
Cedric’s eyes darkened, remembering the fact that the queen had a spy around him, which he had no idea about. After Abrielle’s death, he made Elias investigate all the maids from the castle, but there were no other spies still, which gave him an unsettling feeling.
"She died on the spot after trying a suicidal spell." He answered truthfully. Abrielle’s eyes went wide; she was indeed a target of the queen. Did the system just save her life?
