Chapter 43: The spy
Chapter 43: The spy
Cedric’s strong sandalwood and vanilla scent hits Abrielle’s nostrils, and she subconsciously relaxes in his arms without knowing. As her heartbeat stabilizes, she peeks through the slightly ajar door and quickly notes the hooded figure is walking back in the direction of her room.
Her curiosity was tugged and her mind immediately came up with the conclusion that it was the spy. Cedric’s eyes furrowed as he observed the figure with questions in his mind, not about how someone was acting suspiciously and killing his guards but why his wife was awake around this time of the night.
His nose moved to her hair, had this subtle lavender scent, and his voice akin to a whisper, asked her. "What are you doing awake roaming the halls Abrielle?" He asked her and she froze.
He felt her go stiff in his arms and his gold eyes narrowed further. Abrielle nervously gulped feeling his heated gaze on her back. She knew she dared not tell him the truth as that would be forbidden and the lie better be very convincing.
"I was woken up by a slight noise in the night and decided to investigate." She answered. Cedric was not satisfied by her answer but he didn’t question her on it further. He had more important things to do to get rid of the nuisance that was roaming the halls.
After spending all day trying to investigate Khaos’ appearance, they were not about to find any signs of the summoners, but he had a feeling they were still around but hiding.
Cedric urged his elite squad to search further while he went back home to check up on his vicious wife as a good husband as he would describe himself.
On arriving at her room, he found it empty, which stunned him, wondering why it was empty, but his extremely good hearing heard distant sounds of tip-toeing footsteps, and he followed behind to find Abrielle, who was acting a bit suspicious.
He quietly followed behind in the shadows, lurking at places she couldn’t sense until this happened. There was a spy in the castle.
"We can forget about the explanation. It’s time to find out what that mouse is up to." Cedric whispered, leaving the room; he didn’t tell Abrielle if she should follow him or not, but she knew it was better she stuck to him because there was no telling if there were more spies in the castle.
Cedric’s footsteps were subtle as he followed the hooded figure he could perfectly see in the dark slowly. His suspicions were Increased when he realized the person was going in the direction of Abrielle’s room.
Abrielle, who was following Cedric, unfortunately, her eyesight was not as good as Cedric’s due to his bloodline and was having difficulties following behind and avoiding stepping on parts of armour on the floor.
The clanking sounds of metal rang throughout the hall as she mistakenly struck her legs against a piece of metal blowing their cover. Cedric was able to quickly grab the ginger pulling her to the side as the hooded figure was now aware of their presence.
He merged into the darkness at a corner of the hallway, but the hooded figure was now distressed and alert. It quickly ran to Abrielle’s room without bothering to keep his existence hidden again.
"Be careful," Cedric said, then ran after the hooded figure. His movements were so swift it was like he had disappeared into the darkness, merging his dark garments to be one with the darkness.
Cedric got into Abrielle’s room and was welcomed by a strong force akin to a wind pushing against him, but he easily broke through it like it was nothing, and a mischievous smirk graced his lips.
It was a witch. The witch still had a hood covering its face with a dagger firmly in its hold, ready to attack the first prince, although its entire body was trembling, knowing this was a lost battle.
Cedric’s eyes flickered between gold and black, and he moved at an insane speed, clashing with the witch that tried its best to fight against him using more wind attacks. It was obviously an air elemental.
Cedric continued to break through the attack until he was close enough to tackle it. Knocking out the blade from its hand and gripping the neck lifting the short hooded figure off the ground.
The hooded figure struggled in his firm grip trying to pry it away with its legs dangling above the ground. A strong wind settled around him, but those wind attacks were nothing against Cedric, who had an amused look on his face as his gold eyes stared keenly at the rat he caught.
"Better stop because it is useless. Who sent you and why are you after the princess?" He asked, going straight to the point, but the hooded figure couldn’t care less and continued struggling for its life against all odds.
The strong cyclic wind blew off the hood over its head and a long strawberry blonde hair poured out. The door creaked open, and Abrielle came in, being welcomed by this site. She was breathing heavily as she had to run to catch up with Cedric.
Her eyes were immediately drawn to the chaos in her room close to the princess bed. Under the dim light of the moonlight illuminating the room through the slightly open winding binds and the dim flickering candlelight, she was able to immediately recognize the strawberry blonde.
"Sarah," she gasped, surprised to see the maid she had swapped outfits with, which Cedric had claimed to have killed.
The strawberry blonde, who was indeed Sarah’s eyes glowed, turning green as her wind energy went amok. "Her sin is getting married to a devil," Sarah screamed, and then a strong wind force shot from her hands, targeting the unfortunate gingerhead villainess who found herself in the middle of the crossfire.
The wind, just like a blade, destroyed everything in its path as it went straight for the princess.
