The Villianess story: A 100 ways to kill your husband -
Chapter 42: Hidden request
Chapter 42: Hidden request
There was a hidden request from the system. After giving it a thought she decided to accept the hidden request.
HIDDEN QUEST
FIND THE SPY OF THE QUEEN AND SURVIVE.
REWARD: UNLOCKING ABRIELLE’S SECRET MEMORIES.
PENALTY: VARIES FROM LOST OF REWARD TO DEATH.
THE SYSTEM WILL NOT APPEAR UNLESS WHEN IT IS DEEMED NECESSARY.
GOOD LUCK
Abrielle had a good feeling she had been tricked. Death was a penalty. Why did she have the feeling that Cedric was not the only one after her life but also the system?
This world was confusing; she still didn’t understand whether it was real or she was stuck in a virtual reality game, but the feeling of death when she almost drowned was real.
From her guess, the system might not stop her from killing Cedric and escaping because, according to it, the world is free from the plot restriction, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t following it. This ensures that Cedric kills his wife, but from the way things are moving, the plot might end up being executed.
Now that aside, how was she going to accomplish the quest to find the Queen’s spy and survive? This was all because of the novel plot, and as the author, she never mentioned anything concerning the honeymoon period of Abrielle and Cedric.
"Calm down, Abrielle, and think, why would there be a spy here in the first place?" She said to herself in a hushed tone while pacing around.
The only reason was that she wanted to put an eye on Cedric or possibly kill him since Cedric was presently the strongest opposition against the crown prince of the novel.
There was also a slim chance the reason the spy was sent was because of her because Cedric could easily discover a spy.
The request didn’t have a time limit, so she could take her time; meanwhile, she had to think of ways to execute her plans for the winter hunt.
While Abrielle was trying to figure out things Cedric was trying to investigate the appearance of the Khaos. After hearing the Danbury couple suspicious about the appearance of the Khaos being related to a sex trafficking operation.
His eyes darted around the forest that was almost unrecognizable from the cliff, his battle with the monster had done a great deal of damage.
"We haven’t been able to find any signs of a witch as the battle had destroyed the forest," Elias informed Cedric who was thrown into deep thoughts.
"Let’s search longer, they can’t suddenly disappear after their first attempt failed." He instructed Elias. Today was going to be a long day.
The day went by, and Cedric didn’t return to the castle, not that Abrielle was unhappy about it. She spent most of her day indoors thinking about her problems and was considering the possibility of running away, but she doubted Cedric would let her a foot outside this castle without his permission.
She was being watched at all times, meaning that if she were to investigate on her own, it would have to be when no eyes were on her.
"Your Highness, the prince just sent word he will not be able to make it before dinner." A maid informed Abrielle, who was taking a leisurely walk around the castle, hoping to find clues.
For a strange reason, Abrielle felt eyes were on her, which was absurd because she was indeed being followed every time, but there was this ominous feeling she had.
"I guess it is time to head back inside," Abrielle mentioned it was the end of an unproductive day.
After having dinner alone, Abrielle retired for the night, and as Cedric has said, he didn’t return the entire day.
Abrielle did not sleep that night because she planned to search the castle at night for any clues since she could not find anything during the day.
It was very early in the morning, around 2 am. She didn’t have any idea if Cedric and his men were back, but this was her best bet.
She slowly got out of her bed slipping out of the covers for the door. She had reached out the door handle and was glad to find out it was open.
Abrielle slowly opened the door making sure not to attract attention due to the creaking sounds. She was walking barefoot on the cold marble floor. The castle was large, and she had no idea where to search other than to aimlessly walk around.
The hallway was eerie and quiet with the cold breeze whispering words she didn’t understand as it came in through the window.
Oddly, Abrielle had not spotted any guards patrolling still now, which made the night more eerie. She felt goosebumps on her skin and her guts were telling her something was wrong tonight.
There was a slight sound of something falling, and Abrielle quickly hid behind a pillar before peeking out. She swore she saw a shadow moving. Her brows furrowed because it was suspicious for someone who isn’t a guard to move around by this time of the night.
Excitement glimmers in her heart, thinking of the possibility she has gotten lucky; once the shadow has gotten far enough, she slowly leaves the pillar to secretly trail behind.
At the end of the hallway, she took a turn in the direction of the shadow. Abrielle was vigilant, with her footsteps quiet and nibbling as a mouse.
Her eyes were focused on the direction of her head to trace out the shadow that she was aware of where she was stepping until she stepped on something wet underneath her feet. Abrielle glanced down and, with the help of the moonlight, could immediately recognize it was blood.
Following the bloody trail she found the body of a guard sitting on the floor. He was dead; Abrielle stumbled a few steps, shocked, and almost screamed, unable to bear the horror.
Far ahead, she heard another suspicious sound of something falling; immediately, her instinct was telling her to abort the mission and hide for safety. The footsteps were heading back in this direction.
Abrielle was so shocked by everything that she lost her footing, walking backwards with a scream threatening to leave her throat. Before she could scream while falling.
A firm hand covered her mouth, preventing her from screaming, and she was pulled into the closest room with the door slightly ajar.
Her heart was beating fast with her body trembling under the strong hold until she heard him whisper. "Better hold back your scream, or they will find you, dear wife." She heard his low voice, barely a whisper, and his strong sandalwood scent hit her as he held her in his arms. Where did he appear from?
