Chapter 393: Grande Scheme

Things went perfectly as Abrielle had planned. A few days later, she had a letter from Cedric informing her that the war was ending soon. After blocking the information the other party has about Darconia, Cedric and Alfonso worked together to change the entire strategy leaving the other party overwhelmed.

Peace talks were expected to happen soon, although it seems Darconia was most likely going to force the other party under its rule, since they might conquer Sumaria if the talks failed.

Things were pretty tense at the border, although the war was under control, the fragile peace wasn’t going to last long. If Darconia expands its boundaries again, it will threaten other kingdoms.

It has been a month since Cedric left for war, and she has been handling everything over at Vitalis. Recently, she hadn’t heard from Camilla or Cecilia, her hands have her too full with tasks she has to take on as the prince consort.

"The weather is pretty hot today," Abrielle sighed, holding a parasol over her head. Evelyn diligently held it to protect her lady from the sun.

"You need to endure. Once the last batch is loaded we can go in." Evelyn said. They were outside inspecting supplies for Cedric’s men. Although the palace sent supplies to the border Cedric was never going to trust Eleanor.

Abrielle had to make sure everything was in perfect condition. "Nothing seems to be amidst," Abrielle commented taking walking around the food supplies. This was what she was very careful about. There were high chances of it getting poisoned..

"Yes, the suppliers are trusted, and we never use the same route twice, making it hard to track.", Evelyn explained and Abrielle nodded.

"This batch is clean, I think we are done for the day." She mentioned, then turned around, heading towards the main entrance. Evelyn put out the parasol and continued following the princess. Recently, she has been observing that Abrielle seemed more spaced out, as if her mind wasn’t here. She wondered if it was because she missed Cedric.

Their footsteps were light as they made their way inside. Abrielle stopped a portrait. Cedric was on a horse she guessed was midnight. His face was covered with his signature gold mask.

"That was painted when he got promoted to a general.", Evelyn commented, taking her time to admire the portrait. She glanced at Abrielle who had an unreadable expression.

"He seems much younger," Abrielle mentioned. "I wonder if we will get a chance to have a portrait together," Abrielle added, making Evelyn smile.

"Once the war is over we can commission one."

Abrielle continued staring at the portrait but her mind wasn’t there. Everything seemed perfect, too perfect. It gave her a sense of unease.

Some questions needed answers, the look alike, Sarah, ladies of the moon and then there are the sorcerers, their biggest problem with the plot.

There was a link between the royal family and the sorcerers she had to figure out. Were their motives still the same as the story or was it different?

’ Why am I even bothered?’ Abrielle shook her head. It was the work of Callista to figure that out. She was the villainess and had already influenced the story too much

In the original plot, the sorcerer’s motive was to remove the Von Drakkar family from power. They caused so many problems, overwhelming the Von Drakkar, and amid the chaos. Kaiden Von Drakkar died after a short illness

He was murdered, but this time around the illness came earlier and has lasted quite a long time, which Abrielle was grateful for.

Thinking back on the war, in the original plot, after it was discovered that the Darkhavens were traitors, the peace talks started. Just when things were perfect the King of Sumeria who was leading the war was assassinated

The culprits were the sorcerers; this made Sumaria suspect Darconia, and they attempted to fight, leading to their kingdom failing in a few days. It was a small kingdom, and in no time, Cedric conquered the capital..

Which will make you wonder why a small kingdom was bold enough to ally with other nations to fight Darconia? The sorcerers were behind it all along.

It was a grand scheme that first destroyed the Darkhaven land with plagues and poison, then forced Ivana to make a bad decision, forcing her to ally with the alliance to fight Darconia. It would have worked if Fiona had not coincidentally discovered Ivana’s influence.

After the war failed, they killed the leader of the Alliance, leading Cedric to conquer Sumaria and making the Alliance more wary of Darconia. The war ended but a cold tension continued.

The doors burst open, "Your Highness," the person gasped. A tired groan rang, and the man sitting at the table dropped his quill to glance at the soldier that just burst in.

"Just go straight to the point." Cedric sighed. He was exhausted. He has been working on a proposal that he had to get the crown prince’s approval and, hopefully, the king of Sumaria’s approval.

Until things are finished here, he could not go back home to her but Lucian and the king of Sumaria weren’t agreeing on anything. Sumaria led the alliance and once things were sorted out with them the resistance would fail

Cedric knew the peace talks would fail, but he had to work under the command of the crown. His hand clenched knowing Lucian was standing in for Kaiden.

"Sumaria has withdrawn from the peace talks " the soldier informed Cedric. He was surprised that it was sooner than he thought.

His attention was completely on the soldier now. "Explain in more detail."

.

"The king of Sumaria was assassinated, the guards caught a glimpse of the killer before he disappeared, and he used a shadow technique with a similar build as Vice General Elias Azure." The soldier nervously explained. He shrank under Cedric’s eyes.

"Let me guess, they have declared an all-out war," Cedric said and the soldier nodded.

"They are about to attack."

Cedric stood up, then grabbed his general’s cape. "Then will take the war to them. This isn’t a war to defend the border again, but the infiltration of the Sumaria."
