Chapter 387: Evidence

Abrielle was in a better mood after reading Cedric’s letter but she hoped he would have put in more details.

From the look on Abrielle’s face, Evelyn could guess things were fine at the border. She was curious about what was happening there with so many rumours flying around.

Abrielle dropped Cedric’s letter and picked up the next letter from Fiona, her eyes narrowed at the content.

Things were finally coming together. Fiona had gathered evidence to prove Ivana’s rebellion This was enough for Cedric and Alfonso to figure out the rest and strategise to end this good-forsaken war

"I hope her letter arrives safely," Abrielle muttered to herself..

A brown horse rode fast towards the central command. The air was filled with tension and the lingering scent of blood that clung to everyone.

The war seemed hopeless, no matter the strategy developed, the other side, with a smaller army, was persistent. Lives have been lost, and a lot of people have been injured.

The horse came to a stop, and Rudeus stepped down. He was holding a letter he had just received from Fiona, containing the evidence of the Darkhaven family rebellion.

He held it as a treasure. He didn’t have any hesitation knowing it was his family.

He was disgusted at how far Ivana was ready to go just for profit.

The soldiers standing guard showed their respect to the high-ranking soldier before them. Rudeus nodded at them and continued.

The central command was in the middle of the stronghold. Rudeus marched forward to the strategy room. He had to be quick before the next plans would be ruined.

The door was pushed open, and Rudeus walked in. Everyone’s attention was drawn to the Duke and the war hero.

His eyes darted around, Cedric and Alfonso were seated with several other generals. Rudeus was hesitant to approach Cedric knowing what the young general was capable of. He wasn’t someone he could offend.

Even with the evidence his wife was able to get after digging into the Darkhaven family, there was a slim chance Ivana could find a way to escape.

"You are interrupting an important meeting," Elias said. He was standing behind Cedric, discussing new strategies before Rudeus stepped in.

Rudeus bowed, "Please, I wish to have a minute with General Cedric. It is a matter of urgency." He requested betting on his wife’s words.

Eris, Astrid’s husband and Cedric’s brother-in-law, was enraged by this behaviour. He knew Rudeus, the bastard son of the Darkhaven family.

"Can’t you see we are in the middle of something? Lives are being lost and you interrupt in such an unruly way." Eris’s voice was sharp. Rudeus’ fingers curled into a fist. His head was still bowed

"I request the general presence for just a short moment." Rudeus insisted on making Elias frown. Cedric watched quietly, observing Rudeus’s body language.

He could sense the tension in his body.

"It will have to wait till later." Alfonso finally spoke. He has dark circles under his eyes from several sleepless nights. Alfonso was among the chief strategists alongside Cedric.

Alfonso was tricky, and normally, with his intelligence combined with Cedric’s mischievous guts, wars were easily conquered, but this war was different.

It felt like the other party knew what they were planning. Alfonso had suspected a spy but who was it? Sleepless nights of thinking had left him with dark circles around his eyes, a far cry from Cedric, who didn’t look exhausted or shaken by anything.

Cedric was always calm and collected in war, making it hard for even him to read, but his almighty brother was shaken by this war too. Although it didn’t show in his appearance, he was sure Cedric suspected the same thing as him.

"Forgive my behaviour but I must speak to General Cedric. It is a matter of severe importance." Rudeus still insisted.

On the battlefield, Cedric was addressed as a general instead of the first prince. He was the highest commander who controlled the entire troupe with Alfonso as next in command.

These positions were not given to the princes because of their blood but due to their achievements. "Raise your head," Cedric commanded. Rudeus did as instructed, and his eyes met Cedric’s piercing gaze.

The prince silently stared at him for a while. "The meeting will be put on hold for now." Cedric declared, then turned to Rudeus.

"Follow me, and this has to be worth it ". Rudeus nervously swallowed but still followed Cedric. Cedric understood Rudeus wanted to speak in silence, so he led the war hero to a private room guarded by the shadow knights.

"Say what you want to. The room is being protected." Cedric’s voice was calm, his gaze calculating. He was curious what Rudeus had to say. He has received news that Abrielle and Fiona had recently become friends along with the Flameworth granddaughter.

"Please have a look at this, you will understand better if you see it yourself." Rudeus presented the letter to Cedric..

The first prince accepted the letter, unfolded it and took his time to read it. His expression did not crack.

"Are you Certain about this?" The prince asked Rudeus. Rudeus had some doubts but decided to trust his wife. "With my life."

A smirk crossed the prince’s lips. "You know what you are accusing the Darkhaven family of is treason and this will lead to complete extermination." Cedric had to be sure they were on the same page.

"I am aware but they have to suffer the consequences of their actions. I left the Darkhaven family years ago and exist as a Danbury." Rudeus declared, Cedric nodded then walked towards the Duke. "You did well. Leave the rest to me." He patted Rudeus’s shoulder.

The door closed behind the prince, Elias was waiting for Cedric at the door..

"Is it related to the rebellion?" Elias smartly guessed

Cedric smiled, "Someone gave them a hint, but first we have to inform Lucian of the Darkhaven family. They are the ones that have been selling military secrets to the enemy."

It felt like this was planned by someone. Cedric felt it was someone who left a hint, and his gut is never wrong.
