Chapter 388: News from the border
The Darkhaven family betrayed the kingdom. It was unexpected for a pillar to do that. The pillars are the major families that built the Kingdom of Draconia. Some of them were royal families of smaller kingdoms that gave up their control to be under Von Drakkar’s control.
Why did a powerful family like that betray the kingdom? Was Ivana just interested in money? Cedric sighed. Money was indeed the root of all evil.
He was in his command centre writing a letter to Lucian to take action. He trusted Lucian enough to handle that. He stamped the letter after he signed it before sealing it.
"This should be sent off immediately." He instructed Elias, handing over the letter to him. Elias accepted it. "What other orders do you have?"
"Have you investigated everyone tied to the Darkhaven family on the battlefield?" Cedric asked, and they had started taking actions to catch the snitch among the men. Cedric planned on gathering all the Darkhaven allies, interrogating them before they would be killed for treason. Everyone tied to the traitors would be exterminated, mothers and children no one was going to be spared.
"Yes, they have all been gathered, I instructed the men to be careful not to alarm them. We don’t want them alarming the Darkhaven family." Elias explained judiciously.
Cedric’s eyes narrowed. The letter was helpful, at least they had a lead now.
"Handle this with care," Cedric instructed Elias, who bowed, then turned to leave. He walked up to the door, "You know you can withdraw from the field. You are already injured and don’t have to push yourself too much."
Elias’s shoulders stiffened, "I will be fine," Elias answered. Cedric glanced away and he knew Elias was stubborn.
The door closed leaving Cedric inside.. Elias walked away with powerful strides hiding the pain that was rushing through his body.
Elias was injured but hid his condition. He didn’t expect Cedric to find out. His master has always been perceptive that was why he admired Cedric. He should withdraw and maybe visit his family but he didn’t want to leave Cedric’s side on the field.
Cedric has a few people he trusts to watch his back. He was going to stay at his master’s place.
The men were patrolling all over the stronghold. Elias made his way to the highest floor of the stronghold, which was quieter.
The bird station was oddly quiet despite being filled with carrier birds. Elias didn’t trust any other person to handle this. He opened a bird cage and carried out a bird.
After securing the letter, he walked towards a window. Normally, they would have sent it via horsemen, but this was urgent. "Be careful," he whispered before letting it go.
The bird spread out its wings and flew away in the direction of the capital. He could only wish that it arrived safely.

Close to midnight, a bird cry was heard alerting the station’s keeper who quickly accepted the bird. His eyes went wide recognising the seal on the carrier bag behind the bird
"A message from the border," he gasped. He removed the letter and confirmed it carried the royal seal. He understood it was an urgent matter.
The station keeper’s arm was filled with scars from handling several birds. He walked through the loud station filled with several crying birds.
"Kace, kace..." He called out as he ran down, and a younger man heard his call and came out immediately.
"You called Master," the younger man answered. "Take this to the crown prince, it is urgent news from the border from the commander." He instructed his apprentice.
Kace nodded, understanding the mission, and accepted the letter. The station house was in the main palace. Kace ran through the palace as quickly as he could to the chambers Lucian was using.
The guards standing at the door were surprised to see a station keeper running towards them. Lucian had used his personal knights as his guard. They were the only ones he could trust to watch his back.
"What business do you have here?" The guard stopped the Station boy. The boy was still catching his breath after running all the way here. The guards were patient enough to wait for him.
"Urgent message from the border." The station boy could barely say, his breath was haggard. His forehead was covered with beads of sweat.
The guards glanced at each other surprised. "You may go in," they gave him a passage. The station boy managed to stand up taking in a deep breath before walking into the open door
One of the guards followed. Lucian was seated by a window, reading some documents next to a candle. The guard quickly went to one knee, followed by the station boy.
"There is a letter from the border," the guard informed Lucian. Lucian paused, dropping the document on the polished table next to him.
"Let me have a look at it," Lucian instructed. The guard glanced at the station boy who still had his head bowed. The station boy stood up and approached Lucian.
"Greetings, your highness," he bowed again, handing the letter to Lucian. Lucian accepted it, and the station boy took a few steps back, still bowing his head out of respect.
Lucian was curious about what was so urgent. He broke the seal of the letter, his eyes reading along the lines. Then he understood.
A smile graced his lips, he didn’t expect less from his rival. Not only did Cedric specify the rebellion of the Darkhaven family. He also gave speculation on how they were able to sell information and sabotage the war.
Cedric was thinking two times ahead, it felt like he suspected the Darkhaven family.
"Jonathan," he called out to his knight who was serving as guard. "Yes, your highness. " Jonathan answered.
"I want you to handle something with care." He instructed before glancing at the station boy. "You may leave."
"Thank you, your highness." The station boy expressed his gratitude and quickly excused himself. As soon as the door closed Lucian’s face went cold
"What do you want me to handle?" The knight was not surprised by Lucian’s sudden change in mood. The crown prince was always like this.
"Let’s say Cedric had found a way to end this annoying war." Lucian clicked his tongue. A Rebellion associated with a pillar family was going to be hard to handle.
