Chapter 384: Flamesworth family

The Flamesworth family was as strong as the pillars of Darconia. The major families that built the kingdom alongside the Von Drakkar family. Some even considered them among the group as they were present at the beginning.

Unlike other families that had large Duchies like the Nightshade that controlled Vesper and the temple, the Flamesworth family didn’t have that control. Although they had wealth and other properties, their influence was due to their extensive medical knowledge and the control over the North Magic Towers, who were in charge of making several high-grade magic items, especially healing artefacts.

Abrielle had written back to Fiona and Cecilia and they all agreed on meeting in Cecilia’s place.

The Flamesworth home was in the middle of an expensive settlement located on the inner island of Vitalis, which wasn’t far from the palace and seaside castle.

Abrielle’s eyes stared at the blurry green field as she rode from the seaside castle into the luxurious urban area. This place was more beautiful than the mainland because of the luxurious beauty that the architecture and wealth displayed.

Soon, the carriage stopped in front of the Flamesworth home. From the red flag carrying the Flames’ coat of arms, Abrielle was sure this was the Flamesworth family.

She stepped out of the carriage, and the windy air blew her hair, scattering it all over her face. "Welcome, Princess Abrielle," she heard a familiar voice say.

Abrielle smiled seeing Cecilia, who was curtseying before her, alongside the beautiful Camilla, whose emerald eyes sparkled.

Abrielle smiled at a silly thought. Why would Richard be willing to let go of such a beautiful wife?

"Thanks for the invitation." Abrielle smiled. Cecilia returned the smile and led Abrielle in. "Duchess Fiona arrived earlier and is speaking to Granny," Cecilia informed Abrielle. The princess nodded knowing she was consulting concerning her pregnancy.

She wondered how far Fiona had gone with her investigation. They walked through the doors, and it was as Abrielle expected. The flameworth was wealthy, and being the richest physician in Darconia was not a joke.

She wondered how their granddaughter got into the hands of traffickers but life is unpredictable. These things can’t be predicted..

Abrielle arrived at a garden, a small stone path led to a gazebo, from a distance she could recognise Fiona talking to a beautiful lady. She didn’t look older, but Abrielle knew better. It was the lady of the Flamesworth family, Cecilia’s grandmother.

She was a powerful apothecary who was able to make herself look way younger than her age, which spoke of her talent.

There was a beautiful fountain surrounded by birds in the middle of the garden. It was truly beautiful, containing rare flowers that were medicinal.

Cecilia was a bubbling child, a different personality from how she was at death’s door. Abrielle guessed this was her real personality.

"Granny, the princess is here," Cecilia announced, once she acknowledged Abrielle’s presence. She got on her feet and bowed before the princess leaving her stunned.

"This humble lady extends her gratitude for the princess’s grace." The lady extended her gratitude. Abrielle was stunned by the gesture, she held the lady of the Flamesworth family’s hand and urged her to stand up.

"You don’t have to bow," the lady was not convinced. She was sincere in her actions.

"I am forever grateful for your actions. You brought our angel back to us." The lady cried, Abrielle was in a sticky situation. She could only urge the woman to stand up after some convincing, and the lady did.

"Please, your actions make the princess uncomfortable, she isn’t used to gestures like this." Evelyn chirped in rescuing Abrielle from the situation.

"Sorry for my behaviour, but if Your Highness ever requires my assistance, I will be grateful to help," the lady added, getting on her feet. Her eyes met those of Cecilia.

Cecilia chuckled, "Pardon, granny, she is emotional, after all, she lost my father a few months ago." Cecilia explained.

Abrielle’s eyes went wide in realisation, Cecilia’s grandmother excused herself, leaving the princess and the other Ladies. Fiona extended her gratitude but her face looked grim.

The princess wondered if the apothecary had discovered something that left the duchess scared. The ladies sat around the table and started having tea. Cecilia suggested horse riding, but Abrielle turned it down, knowing Fiona was pregnant.

Fiona didn’t know about the trafficking incident as it wasn’t made public, so they avoided talking about it and spoke of other things instead, including Camilla and Richard’s affair. Abrielle was pleasantly surprised that Richard was here earlier

Camilla was still playing Richard; she wasn’t ready to accept him, nor did she reject him. The topic got uncomfortable so they dropped it.

"It must be hard, I don’t know what I will do if Rudeus suddenly brings another woman to our home. Even if you want to forgive him, make him regret it more." Fiona chirped in before the topic was dropped. She was taking a sip of her tea

"Your garden is pretty," Abrielle chirped, Cecilia smiled. "It is, mother loves the garden, but because of her health, she can hardly see it ", Cecilia mentioned with a look of longing.

It turned out the granny was very grateful because she had lost Cecilia’s father, her first son, to a disease outbreak that happened on the southern border, he had left to investigate with his daughter who was his apprentice.

After his death, Cecilia, who was researching with her father, travelled back to Vitalis, where she was captured on her way back. On hearing the news of Cecilia’s being missing and her father’s death. Her mother’s health started to decline from grief; she was currently bedridden but was slowly recovering.

"I am sure your mother will recover soon," Camilla said, holding Cecilia’s hand. The atmosphere got gloomy. Cecilia sighed then smiled.

"I know Mother is a fighter. Besides, have you heard the rumours from the Palace? The maids speak of the king being poisoned." Cecilia mentioned, Abrielle’s expression was blank.

News of the king being bedridden was meant to be a secret but rumours always circulated. Although Cecilia’s grandfather was among those looking over the king he would not carelessly disclose such information that might cause strife.

Someone was deliberately leaking these rumours. "We’d rather not talk about such unpleasant topics."
