Chapter 383: The letters part 2
The princess had a faint smile on her face after reading Becky’s letter. She was glad Becky had finally met her family. Sure, she remembered the first time she spoke to Becky, how broken she sounded.
She kept Becky’s letter to pick up the next one. It was a letter from Vesper. Rebecca’s letter finally got to her. Abrielle had been expecting the letter.

To my dearest Abrielle,
My precious little star,
When I received Cedric’s letter saying that you had been found... I cried. I cried so much that your father had to hold me and calm me down. My heart has been heavy ever since you disappeared during the Spring Festival. I was so scared. You are my only child, Abrielle. My heart. My joy. When you went missing, I felt like a part of me had been torn away.
We searched everywhere. Your father called in every favour, sent riders to the border, to the port everywhere. The whole Nightshade family was in a storm of worry. But even with all our efforts, we couldn’t stay long in Vitalis. The duchy needed us, and it broke my heart to leave without knowing where you were. I hated every mile we put between us.
Before we left, I told Cedric that if he didn’t find you, I would take you away from him the moment I found you myself. Maybe that was harsh, but I meant it. And maybe, just maybe... my words lit a fire under him. He did find you after all. So, in a way, I suppose I can be smug that my threat worked. But don’t misunderstand me, Abrielle I still don’t trust him.
He might have brought you home, but that alone isn’t enough for me. If you ever tell me you’re unhappy in that marriage, even if divorce isn’t an option, and they say death is the only way to break a royal marriage.
I don’t care, I will fight for you, tooth and nail. I will drag Cedric down from his high horse if I must. Your happiness means more to me than titles or alliances. You are my daughter before anything else.
I heard he’s gone again, off to fight in this war. That only makes me more worried. Vitalis is no place to be right now, especially not without your husband by your side. Please, my darling, come home to Vesper. Come where you are safe, where I can hold you and see with my own eyes that you are well. Just knowing you’re close would bring me peace.
Things here have been a mix of joy and worry. Your aunt Ava’s pregnancy is showing now finally! The healers say it’s a strong child, and we all have a feeling it’s a boy. Your cousin Sebastian has begun his training to one day be a duke. He has improved greatly. Honestly, Pierre didn’t have to teach him much since you guys were raised together alongside Adeline, his twin sister.
Talking about Adeline, I hear from Ava she is doing well although royal marriage has its troubles. I think Ava holds a grudge. I tricked Adeline into a marriage that was meant to be you. But what can I say? I couldn’t let my only child go to another kingdom across the ocean on another continent. I know I am a selfish mother.
Besides, as the war gets worse, Sebastian may be called to lead the Holy Knights as the heir of Vesper. That thought alone keeps me up at night.
Rumours from the border aren’t good, Abrielle. Every whisper tells of battles brewing, and I fear what might come. You’re strong, I know that, but I’m your mother. I’ll never stop worrying about you. Please consider returning to Vesper for a while. The castle is quiet, the hills are green, and your room is just as you left it. I would be at peace having you here.
I’ll end this letter here before my tears smear the ink again. Just know that I love you deeply, fiercely and no matter where you are, you will always be my little princess.
With all my love,
Mother
Rebecca Nightshade, Duchess of Vesper

"Oh, mother, you really hate him, don’t you?" Abrielle sighed after reading her mother’s letter. She knew Rebecca would be troubled, Abrielle was her everything.
But this letter made Abrielle aware of what was happening at the border. She just hopes Fiona will be able to find the evidence of the Rebellion fast enough before things get worse. "My hands are tied."
Abrielle went through other letters but another caught her attention more. It was a letter from Cecilia. Who Abrielle finally find out was the daughter of the Flameworth family? The strongest family of physicians in the capital. A high noble equal in status with Abrielle before she married Cedric.

To Her Highness, Princess Abrielle of Nightshade,
My dearest Princess Abrielle,
I hope this letter finds you in good health and brighter spirits. I wanted to write to you sooner, but settling back home has kept me quite busy. Still, there hasn’t been a day that has passed without me thinking of you and all that you did for us. I know from the stamp that you have figured out I am a Flamesworth. Before meeting you, I heard rumours of who Abrielle Nightshade was, but I guess I should stop believing them because you are nothing like that.
Life in Vitalis has been lively. The Flameworth estate is just a street away from the city square. It feels surreal being home again, surrounded by the familiar smell of herbs, fresh bread, and the sea breeze. My grandparents were overjoyed to have me back. I wish you could’ve seen their faces. They’ve heard so much about you from me, and now they wish nothing more than to meet you themselves and thank you properly. You gave them their granddaughter back, and they say that kind of kindness is beyond words.
If it’s ever possible, we would be honoured to receive you at our family’s estate. Our little estate might not be as grand as the seaside castle, but it is located along the eastern lane just past the fountain square.
You’re always welcome there, any day and any time. Or, if you would prefer, we would be more than happy to visit you instead at the seaside castle. I’ve heard it’s beautiful, and I would love to see you again and share all the things I’ve been saving to show you. Please consider an invitation, my family won’t let me leave the estate over fears of being kidnapped again, and I would love to share tea with you sometime.
Also... something quite unexpected has been happening. Richard, Camilla’s husband found her the day we arrived at Vitalis. He comes by almost every day, bringing little gifts and letters, always trying to speak to her. He seems genuinely regretful, but Camilla remains quiet about it all.
She hasn’t turned him away, but she hasn’t accepted him either. I don’t know the full story, but I can’t help noticing the way she watches him when she thinks no one is looking. I think she still loves him. There’s sadness in her, and something tender too. I’m not sure what will happen, but I do hope she finds the peace she deserves.
Before I end, I’ve included a small bundle of herbs from Granny’s collection. She is the best apothecary in the entire Darconia. She insisted they’re meant to help with strength and rest. I remembered you had fallen ill on our return journey and wanted to send something for your well-being.
I am glad we got to know you, Princess. You’ve left a warmth in my life I’ll never forget. I hope we’ll meet again soon.
With love and gratitude,
Cecilia

Abrielle folded the letter. It seemed she had found the perfect Physician for Fiona, and even better, she had gotten one of the pillars of Darconia indebted to her.
