Chapter 382: The letters part 1
Chapter 382: The letters part 1
The weather was nice today, Abrielle was in Cedric’s study, which she used at times to handle her business. Today she had a couple of things to approve concerning the household.
In the absence of Cedric, every document that passed through her for approval. "The house expenses have dropped," Abrielle muttered seeing the last report.
"That was because the prince wasn’t in the castle for most of last month. He was busy searching for his missing wife." Lucas explained like she wasn’t Cedric’s missing wife.
She signed the last paper and then passed it to Lucas, the household accountant. Lucas has been using the accounting method she taught him which made his work more concise to understand.
"Are there any other documents I have to attend personally?" Abrielle asked Lucas. He nodded.
"There are some letters that just arrived addressed to you ." He informed Abrielle, then started sifting through a pile to find the letters.
"I am sorry for not giving them to you immediately. When they arrived last night, you were asleep?" Lucas explained then he bowed slightly as he gave her the letter.
There were multiple letters, but one with a duchy caught her attention first. It was the Danbury seal. Fiona had written back to her.
She unsealed the letter and her eyes started to read between the lines.

To Her Highness, Princess Abrielle of Nightshade,
My dearest Abrielle,
I trust this letter finds you well, and with some measure of peace in these uncertain times. I’ve often thought of our conversation during our walk through the greenhouse tea house. There are few with whom I feel I can speak honestly, and I’m grateful for your ear and your heart.
As you advised, I’ve taken the first step and written to my husband. It wasn’t easy, he’s already been burdened with the weight of suspicion surrounding the rebellion. Until recently, he feared the threat came from distant circles or rival Houses. But never did he imagine it might be his own family. The truth will be difficult for him to accept. Still, he deserves to hear it from me. Quietly, and with care, I’ve told him what I suspect.
You were right, Abrielle. The signs were there. I see it now, clearer than before. The stepmother in particular, I do not trust her. There’s something cold beneath her smiles, and lately, I’ve had a terrible feeling. Not just about the rebellion, but something closer to home. A mother’s instinct, perhaps. I’ve begun to fear she might wish to harm the baby.
It’s why I must ask you do you know of a good physician in the capital? Someone discreet and gentle, but skilled enough to recognise if something has been... tampered with. I want to be certain the child I carry is safe. I don’t believe my husband’s family would hesitate to use even an unborn child to secure their ambitions.
My husband has long kept his distance from the House of Darkhaven, for good reason, but this betrayal strikes deeper than either of us expected. Still, I cannot be idle. I’ve begun a quiet investigation of my own. With each whisper, with each servant’s nervous glance, my suspicions grow.
Thank you for giving me the strength to listen to my instincts, even when they feel like treason. Your friendship means more than I can say.
With hope, and guarded trust,
Fiona Danbury
Duchess of Danbury

Fiona had taken the bait and started investigating her in-laws. She also wrote a letter to her husband. Still, she was anxious about what Abrielle told her, so she decided to secretly consult a physician.
Fiona didn’t know any Physicians so she wrote to Abrielle.
Abrielle was staring at her letter, thinking of whom to suggest.
She placed the letter aside and started going through the other letters, which were letters from the girls. First was a letter from Becky where she told Abrielle how her family had been doing well and Betty was safely taken home. Betty’s reunion with her family was heartwarming. Although Betty’s mother was heartbroken over the death of her eldest daughter, Hope. She was glad Betty came back safely.

To Her Highness, Princess Abrielle of Nightshade,
Dearest Princess Abrielle,
I hope this letter finds you in good health and comfort. It feels like only yesterday we sat together at Blackthorn, sipping tea and sharing laughter. Our farewell moment stuck with me, and I had to find a way to write back as promised.
I wanted to write to you as soon as I could to let you know how everything turned out after our return. By the grace of the goddess Nyxoria, my family has been doing well.
My husband Pete was overjoyed to see me, and little Lucy is growing strong and cheerful. She didn’t recognise me at first, but the moment she reached out and held my finger, I cried like a child. She is a year old now, although I missed her first moments I am glad I can still raise her.
The other children cried so hard when they saw it, especially my eldest daughter Carol. She had a lot of stories to tell me about everything I missed and how her brother was mischievous. Their stories warm my heart. From the stories I heard, how Pete missed me dearly when he saw me, he was so stunned that he cried at the spot, unable to hug me.
Jeremy, my son, was hit the most among the children, although I feel Carol is trying to act strong as the eldest child. Even now, as I write to you, Jeremy clings to me; he acts stubborn, but he is scared his mother will disappear again. I feel for my children that we had to be separated for so long.
I also wanted to tell you about Betty. She was safely taken home not long after we arrived. Her reunion with her family was something I’ll never forget. Her elder brothers rushed to her side, shouting her name and holding her so tightly. Her mother fell to her knees in tears the moment she saw her. It was as though her soul had returned after being lost for so long. Her husband could only hold her.
But even in the joy, there was sadness. Betty’s mother was heartbroken over the death of her eldest daughter, Hope. She spoke of her often. You could see the pain in her eyes like a wound that time refused to heal. But despite the sorrow, she held Betty close and whispered how grateful she was to have at least one daughter back.
Princess, I don’t think I could have made it through without your kindness. Your courage and grace gave so many of us strength when we had none left. Thank you for all that you did and all that you are. I hope one day I can see you again and thank you properly.
Until then, please keep safe and warm. You’re in our prayers always.
With love and deepest thanks,
Becky
