Chapter 259: Who else should it be given to

The chirping sound of birds filled the atmosphere mixed with the scent of blooming flowers. It was another spring morning.

Abrielle didn’t know when she fell asleep again last night, but the nightmare didn’t repeat. She was terrified at what she saw.

In her most vulnerable time, the one who caused her nightmares and terrorized her was oddly the one who gave her the warmth she never imagined he could give. She was curled up in his embrace, shivering slightly from the cold breeze that blew inside the room.

She already knew it was dawn but she didn’t want to leave this bed and face it all over again. She tried to block out the lights poking her eyes with his body.

It was cute and amusing how she kept on wiggling, finding a position to hide from the lights, but the sun was like. Wake up to reality another day in hell has arrived.

"Maybe if you let go for a bit, I can close the curtains," Cedric suggested, unable to watch her struggle in silence any more.

Her hold relaxed, and she moved away, rolling over to face the ceiling. "It’s fine, I should get ready for the day." She answered. Her appearance was not glorifying. Tear-stained face, red eyes and nose from crying all night.

Cedric sat up brushing his fingers through his hair. "My head is throbbing," he groaned. She glanced at him. "Will you be able to duel today?" She asked with a lingering concern at the tip of her tongue.

"I will be fine, just exhausted. Last night was a long night." Cedric replied, remembering the annoying ghoul situation he had to handle yesterday, then Abrielle. He hadn’t slept for two days now and he didn’t have anyone to blame for it.

"Sorry, I was a bother," Abrielle muttered. Cedric sensed guilt in her tone; his eyes snapped at her, confused by what she met a bother. He reached out for her forehead, placing his palm over it to check if she was running a temper.

"You have a slight fever. That explains it." He mentioned making Abrielle confused. "Explains what?" She sneered at him.

"The fact you are saying random rubbish this morning. You are not a bother. If you were, I would not have held you the entire night while you cried." Abrielle was stunned by his reply. She stared blankly at him; she blinked twice, wondering if it was indeed Cedric.

"When did you develop a sweet tongue?" She arched her brow at the devil she could not recognize.

Cedric narrowed his eyes at her slowly getting off from the bed. "What do you mean by a sweet tooth?" He asked, his hands slowly unbuttoning his shirt as he made his way to the wardrobe in the room.

"You are being unusually nice, too nice for a heartless tyrant that almost choked me to death after our wedding." She teased him; Abrielle drew to the drawer next to the bed; there were two roses there. The one from the first day of the duel was still very vibrant; she wondered if it was under some type of spell.

"Ouch, why does it hurt to be called a Tyrant by you?" Cedric dramatically said playing along to ease the atmosphere. He was going to be patient with her and try to understand her.

"Aren’t you a tyrant? You always brag about it in court." Abrielle mentioned that her fingers were rubbing the rose petals. Cedric glanced over his shoulders, amused; he had completely taken off the upper layers of his clothes, exposing his toned body.

"I don’t brag but say what they want to hear, but it still hurts when my wife calls me a tyrant. I do have a heart." Cedric replied. Abrielle’s attention didn’t leave the rose, but she laughed. That was the most hilarious thing coming from someone she wrote on multiple pages to be heartless.

"Sure, I believe you. Even Astrid would believe, after all, that she was or is in love with the man who ruined her reputation in front of the entire kingdom. I even feel for her." Abrielle jokingly said she was feeling bad for the princess, honestly.

"She would have thought twice before she tried to take advantage of me. I always return the favour." Cedric said he saw her freeze for a moment. He understood her fear, she did attempt to get rid of him.

He meant what he said, he was going to make her pay by being stuck in this hellish marriage. "Spoken like a true tyrant. How do you keep the roses fresh?" Abrielle chirped, glancing over to Cedric. She was a bit stunned to see him shirtless. She quickly averted her eyes before she would be stuck staring for too long.

"It’s not my doing. The mages cast a spell on the duel roses so that the lady could flaunt it throughout spring at least. They are pretty invaluable and mean a lot when exchanged between lovers." He explained. Abrielle had no idea; she didn’t even know where she kept Alfonso and Sebastian’s roses.

"I had no idea they were that valuable.. honestly I randomly tossed the ones given to me." She shrugged, having no idea how that statement lightened up Cedric’s mood.

"That’s acceptable. After all, my roses are the only ones you should keep since the rules prohibit them from being rejected at the arena." Abrielle’s heart skipped a beat. Why did it feel like she just got a confession? She must be delusional or Cedric was toying with her.

"You are giving me your roses. I thought you had someone else." The princess foolishly asked. It was either she had an EQ of zero or she was desperately trying to make herself see otherwise.

Cedric tilted his head, shook it slowly, and then laughed before crossing his hands across his chest. "You say the craziest things ever Abrielle. Who else should I give it to rather than my wife?" He asked her, leaving her dumbfounded.

Her cheeks went red, her head bowing. She was dumb; there was no way he could admit he had a lover. "Stop saying cheesy things like that."

She deadpanned.
