Chapter 232: Her wedding gift
Abrielle’s heartbeat was slow, and it felt like she couldn’t breathe properly. "Cedric, it isn’t what you think." She said as soon as Alfonso was gone.
Cedric scoffed laughing at her. "Oh really, I guess my eyes are now blind. You sent Evelyn away so that you can have a private moment with your lover." He drawled, completely amused. He could not believe he even bothered to find her after running into Evelyn.
Abrielle rushed towards his side to grab his hand. "It is not what it looked like. I was not expecting to see Alfonso. Please believe me." Cedric avoided her touch.
His eyes were cold and emotionless. "In that case, you got extra lucky to see him then. Why did you even bother looking for me?" He didn’t believe her, but what did she expect? Which man would believe her in this scenario?
"Don’t say it like that," she muttered, retreating her hand after he avoided her touch. Why did it hurt when it was expected? At least he didn’t have her pinned against the wall like how they started.
Cedric averted his eyes from her gaze, annoyed at the hurt gaze she had. Was it real or not? He could never know the answer. Abrielle was a puzzle beyond his comprehension.
"And now you are playing the victim card. Thank you for jinxing my day Abrielle Nightshade." He called her by her maiden surname which was weird. From how calm he was she could deduce he was enraged.
Was he mad because his brother was flirting with his wife he didn’t love or was Cedric Jealous? Abrielle shook her head. That was hilarious. There was no way Cedric Von Drakkar was jealous.
He turned to leave, but Abrielle was not going to let him leave Like this. She ran blocking his way. Her hands were stretched out blocking out the exit.
Her posture was rather cute. Cedric almost forgot he was mad at her. He hated the fact he could not be mad at her for long and the little ginger was using it to her advantage.
If it was someone else, she would have been long dead, but Abrielle was someone who taught him two words he didn’t have in his vocabulary before. Tolerance and patience were what she taught him the most.
"You know I can get you out of my way without moving a finger. Kindly move away. I don’t like my way being blocked." He kindly said, he was still pissed off. They were so close it felt like she was kissing that little son of a witch.
"I am sorry you walked into such a scene. There is nothing between me and Alfonso. He just appeared out of nowhere while I was waiting for you." She tried to explain. Cedric arched his brow at her. The story she told was rather convenient to believe.
"It doesn’t matter what was happening, just pray that Alfonso doesn’t get to fight me." Cedric simply stated his eyes carrying a dark look that made Abrielle shiver. She swallowed hard
"I don’t care what you do to your brother but Alfonso did save my life..." The rest of her words got stuck in her throat. His eyes flickered between gold and black; his murderous intent going amok.
Cedric grabbed her hand tugging her closer. She smashed against his firm chest, knocking out all the breath in her lungs. His other hand snuck around her waist securing her within his reach.
"You are still defending him and yet you claim he isn’t your lover. You have gotten too brave and outspoken for your own good. It is playing with my patient." Cedric pulled her hand to his lips and then kissed the same spot Alfonso kissed
He sucked on it as if wanting to cleanse her from his touch. Cedric didn’t stop until the spot was red, and he let go of her hand. She was a bit stunned at his actions and froze as she watched him reach out for her hair. His eyes were zeroed on the lilac he pulled out and crumbled in his hand.
Abrielle’s heartbeat was chaotic. He was mad but not as mad as she thought. Unbeknownst to her, Cedric had never been this pissed off in his life before. He was just holding back his rage the best he could before her.
"I am not defending him," she said and was silenced by his gaze again. It was like he would rip off her head if she dared say something positive about Alfonso.
"I guess it is better to keep quiet, but before I shut up for good, I have a present for you." She said Cedric went stuff, finding it hard to believe she actually got something for him.
"Lying won’t change the fact I caught you in a compromising position with Alfonso." Cedric thought she was making up that present to placate him.
"I am not lying." Abrielle shook her head wiggling out of his hold. He let her free then she ran back to where she was seated. There was a bag on the cushion, the same one she had been clutching the entire day.
"You know I have not returned our wedding gift after the rings.. honestly I didn’t know what you would like so I decided to make something myself." She said nervously clutching the bag. Cedric was even more puzzled. Although it was a tradition, she should get him a gift, he wasn’t expecting anything.
She opened the bag and pulled out a handkerchief."I heard that an embroidered handkerchief brings good luck during a duel so I made one myself. I spent the entire winter doing it and my work is not near or that great..." She kept on rambling on. This was the only thing she could think of just to fulfil the role. Honestly, she expected he would reject it.
"It is perfect," Cedric said, leaving her stunned that she had misheard. He grabbed the hankie from her hand and then stole a quick kiss from her lips and now she was dumbstruck
A loud trumpet echoed announcing the beginning of the games. "I have to go now," he said, leaving before she could react. Her cheeks went red, unable to believe he accepted the gift. There was a faint sign of happiness in his voice.
