Chapter 231: She and her lover
Chapter 231: She and her lover
Abrielle left her parents to find Cedric in the waiting rooms of the Arena. The place was super busy, and Abrielle would have lost her way if Evelyn had not accompanied her. She would not have bothered to see Cedric before the duel because why should she bother when he was here to get Callista a rose.
’ Once again thinking like a jealous wife. You don’t care, stick it to your head, Abrielle.’ she groaned at her thoughts that were straying away, yet she could not help but wonder what it would feel like to get a rose from him.
"How long do I have to walk?" She whined at Evelyn they were having a bit of difficulty finding Cedric. "He should be around here; maybe you should wait here while I do a thorough search," Evelyn suggested and before Abrielle could say a word, the maid was already long gone.
The door closed behind Evelyn and Abrielle was stuck in the waiting room. She had no choice but to wait for Evelyn to be back. The room was a VIP waiting room with glass tables and cushion chairs.
She could hear the commotion from the Arena from here. The duel was yet to start, but the audience was already excited about it. Abrielle wasn’t too excited because she knew what was going to happen in the end.
She took a seat on the cushioned chair; her eyes darted around the room, admiring the artwork on the wall until her eyes fell on an interesting vase on the table.
It had an exotic mix of flowers, including a primrose, but there were no red roses among it. The princess tucked her hair behind her ear and then bent over to sniff the flowers. She could not ignore the temptation.
She touched the petals carefully so as not to damage them. The door was abruptly pushed open causing Abrielle to jolt back as her eyes snapped to the entrance.
"Abrielle," she heard him say in disbelief and her face went blank. "I wasn’t hoping to run into you Alfonso." She said emotionlessly but he still smiled at her
She was looking healthier than the last time he saw her. It felt like forever; Cedric had made sure Alfonso’s schedule was super busy. He didn’t have time to bother his wife. Something Alfonso found annoying, but honestly, he was not expecting to see Abrielle here.
"This is a pleasant surprise, isn’t it?" The youngest prince chimed, his hazel eyes sparkling with amusement. Abrielle never understood why Alfonso was so into bothering her. Regardless, she still spoke sweetly to him.
"Thank you for the herbs you sent over. It was truly helpful, but honestly, you should not have bothered. My husband’s servants are more than capable of taking care of my needs." Abrielle honestly said. She hadn’t gotten the opportunity to thank him yet.
Alfonso walked away from the entrance, where he stood towards Abrielle, taking a seat by her side. She was nervous and tried to create a bit more distance. He was not affected by her reaction in the slightest.
"You don’t have to thank me. It was an honour," Alfonso said, picking up a purple lilac from the vase. He placed it in her hair and then smiled at her. "Every colour matches you perfectly but I am sure my red rose would be the best."
Her heart skipped a bit, sensing impending doom. Alfonso was planning on giving her his red roses. That would be scandalous for her.
"Red is not my best colour. I am sure your red rose would look better on other noble ladies." She tried to politely decline. Why did it feel like Alfonso was deliberately causing these rumours? She was powerless against him when he had information that could cause her life.
"We will know once you have the Rose Abrielle." He chimed, picking up her hand. He placed a kiss on it.
"Please, you should stop this; it will only make the rumours worse." She tried to get his act straight. He was holding her hand tightly in his hold.
Alfonso held her gaze, mischief filled in those hazel eyes that would have gotten any girl’s heart racing. He had killer looks and aura with a nice personality to go with it. At least among his brothers, he was the only one who wasn’t cold.
Abrielle was not just any girl; she would not fall for that, knowing she was stuck in an unwanted marriage with his brother. "Smart of you to think I actually care about the rumours." He chuckled, then yanked her head, evading her personal space.
They were super close in a compromising position, Alfonso leaned to her ears. "Watch out for me. My eyes will be searching for you in the crowd." He whispered; his voice was seductively low, and his breath fanned against her skin.
Abrielle’s heart was beating fast; his scent evaded her senses. He smelled like wild lilies with a hint of cinnamon. She swallowed hard hearing his words as she could already imagine the scandalous rumours.
"This is rather an interesting scene to stumble upon. Why don’t you just kiss at once?" Abrielle’s heart jumped to her throat when she heard that threatening low tone. He was here, she recognized his voice immediately.
Just like a wife who was just caught by her husband while frolicking with her lover. She shoved Alfonso away and got on her feet. "You are here," she said the obvious.
"I am glad your eyes are not blind yet because I might actually consider doing that if it stops you from seeing people you shouldn’t be seeing." Cedric nonchalantly stated, his face blank and emotionless.
Alfonso got up tucking Abrielle’s hair behind her ears as he fluidly placed a kiss on her hand. His actions were so fast the princess could not react.
"Enjoy the duel Abrielle." He chimed smiling at her. He acted like everything was so natural. Abrielle snatched her hand from his hold, she could not hold Cedric’s gaze.
Alfonso shrugged and turned to Cedric’s direction. "Good morning brother. Hope to see you at the arena." He chimed. His eyes, going dull for a fleeting moment, he met Cedric’s eyes. He smiled again so charmingly and left the room.
