Chapter 224: Grumpy wife

The presence of the Nightshade couple warmed Abrielle greatly, slowly healing a part of her. Why did she make the villainess have such a perfect loving family? At least it compensates for everything Abrielle suffered from having an unloving husband.

"Soon, Father," she said, leaving a bitter taste in her mouth, knowing that day would never come. Her eyes stung, but she refused to cry in her parents’ presence. She broke the hug, smiling sweetly at her father, who had the warmest gaze ever.

It reminded her of Hazel’s mother. This wasn’t the time to remember a life she might never see again.

Rebecca, feeling jealous of how close Abrielle was to Pierre, disrupted their moment. She could not help the fact she had to be the strict parent when Pierre decided to make it his life mission to spoil the girl.

"Sorry to interrupt your lovely moment. Can we go inside now, for crying out loud? Stop behaving like she is still a little girl," she grumbled bitterly, her voice still carrying both worry and a hint of anger. "I’m cold and exhausted. And I want to see Cedric when he returns. We have much to discuss."

Abrielle exchanged a look with her father, Pierre, whose kind eyes softened the tension between them. Pierre’s silent understanding said it all, this was nothing more than old jealousy mixed with grief and worry. "Alright, Mother, I will lead you to your room. I have personally arranged for you." Abrielle chimed, hugging her mother’s arm.

With a gentle tug, Abrielle led Rebecca toward the grand entrance of the seaside castle. Rebecca’s gaze softened with a soft smile hanging on her lips. Abrielle’s voice rang as she gave her parents a tour of the place. She seemed cheerful all the way

Neither Rebecca nor Pierre mentioned anything about the affair related to Alfonso not to ruin the pleasant mood. They could not wait for Cedric to return to hear what excuses he had whatsoever.

The evening came, and it was almost dinner time, and yet there was no sign of Cedric. Abrielle normally would not bother herself with what he does but she hoped he showed up and paid his respects to her parents.

She didn’t hope for much, knowing he was an insufferable jerk who did not regard her parents and rather enjoyed his time with his sweet Callista.

After arriving, she made sure her parents had their lunch in their room before they went to rest. After having a long journey, she was sure she was exhausted.

Rebecca kept on asking when Cedric would arrive. The sky was already dark with the half moon shining in the sky. Abrielle had a muffler wrapped around her neck

Her hair was fluttering lightly in the breeze, she hugged herself while pacing to and fro in the front entrance. She was nervous and secretly hoping he would show up.

"What is taking him so damn long?" Abrielle grumbled wrapping herself tightly. She knew the investigation had been put on hold because there was a dead end, so Cedric only had a matter of the court to handle.

"Maybe he is spending time with his precious Callista." She sneered, sounding like a bitter jealous wife.

Zoltana was used to this scene, her mistress wracking her brains because of the prince. She didn’t hear what Abrielle was grumbling about but she was sure the princess was cursing her husband over and over again

"We should head back inside; the weather is getting colder, which is not good for your health. I am sure you don’t want to catch a cold while your parents are around." She commented. Abrielle pouted her lips on hearing Zoltana. She might catch a cold.

"I will wait a little bit more and probably think of another excuse. How about I say he had to leave the capital due to an emergency?" She asked Zoltana, thinking of excuses to use.

"I doubt Duchess Rebecca will believe that." Zoltana honestly replied. Of Course, Abrielle knew that it would be hard to fool Rebecca. She was scared her sharp eyes might notice something off about her.

"I am just tired, Zoltana. I have done my best to help Cedric out. Let all hell be let loose then." She sighed in defeat. Abrielle turned to enter the Castle but Zoltana’s voice stopped her.

"His highness has arrived," the maid chimed excitedly. Abrielle glanced over her shoulder and indeed recognized Cedric’s carriage. It came to a halt and her annoying husband alighted.

Cedric’s brows furrowed, seeing Abrielle waiting at the entrance. He knew she wasn’t the affectionate type to be waiting to welcome him back and this made him wary.

He walked towards her, getting to the main entrance; the sound of the retreating carriage and patrolling horses of the guards echoed in the background. "I never expected you would be waiting for me in the cold Abrielle."

"In your dreams, I will be waiting for you. I was admiring the view that you just ruined." She scoffed, lying through her teeth before stomping her feet. She dashed back into the castles

Cedric was taken aback and glanced at the maid hoping to get some useful insights. "Good evening, Your Highness." Zoltana bowed slightly at Cedric then quickly followed behind her mistress.

He wondered why she was so cranky. He knew Abrielle’s parents were arriving today, that’s why he tried his best to get back home early, but everything was against him.

Home, he halted at that thought with his eyes dulling. Was this truly his home? A soft smile tugged his lips and he made his way inside the castle.

There was no sign of Abrielle. She had most likely gone to her room. It wasn’t dinner time yet, so Cedric headed to his study to handle some paperwork in the meantime.

Barely a few minutes after he arrived he never expected to be having some guests he wasn’t keen on seeing. At the castle entrance, a carriage rode quickly approaching the seaside Castle. Inside were Lucian and Callista, the atmosphere in the carriage was heavy. It was obvious something was wrong.
