Chapter 221: The prettiest things
Chapter 221: The prettiest things
The wind blew through her hair lightly as it danced around her. The sky was beautiful with an exotic mix of colour, and in the middle of this beautiful canvas painted by nature, she sat there on the sand watching the sunset.
Evelyn sensed Cedric’s presence and acknowledged him with a bow. She was about to verbally greet him, but he stopped, placing a finger on his lips to shush.
She nodded then turned back to watch her mistress. It was healing how Abrielle made it part of her day to watch the sunset after she found her way to the beach that day.
Cedric made his way towards her, stopping a few feet away; as expected, she didn’t sense his presence because his movements were very quiet and nibbled.
A short breath left her Lips, it was getting colder and she didn’t have a jacket. She should leave but she wanted to stay until it was dark. Growing up, Hazel never got the opportunity to visit the seaside; she could only imagine it in books and watch it on TV. She never knew one of her wishes of being able to visit the seaside would be answered due to transmigration.
Her body went stiff when she felt a coat being wrapped around her and that distinct sandalwood scent wrapped around her. She grabbed the jacket turning to her side where she felt his presence. "Thank you," she muttered wondering how long he was watching her.
Cedric didn’t answer her and just sat beside her on the sand. It felt awkward to even imagine him doing something as simple as that. Her gaze trailed back to the sky. "I had no idea you enjoyed watching scenery like this." He commented.
"I just love admiring the beauty," Abrielle commented.
"That means you love staring at the mirror. I wonder between them which is prettier." Cedric chimed, a smile tugging her lips, listening to the indirect compliment.
"They are both beautiful scenes to admire and it’s pretty hard to pick one." Abrielle chirped, pretending to be lost in deep thoughts. Cedric turned to look at her, and an amused smile etched on his lips.
"If I were to choose one which I would be stuck watching every day, I know which it would be. At this rate, I might never get tired of staring at it.." he replied with his gaze lingering on her.
"The sunset is truly beautiful, better than how it was depicted by words. I don’t think I can ever get sick of coming here every day." The princess mentioned thinking he was referring to the sunset.
Cedric loved the way her eyes had this faint glint in them. It was genuine admiration. It felt like he just got to know her better. "Words are never enough to describe the most beautiful things or the emotions related to them."
Abrielle glanced at him hearing his unusual words. Their eyes met, and he was smiling at her. She recognized the look underneath that mask. Oddly, her heart skipped a beat, and she was bound to look.
He seemed to be inching closer to the extent she felt his breath fanning across her skin. The sun had already disappeared under the horizon, with its faint lights peeking through. She was forced to close her eyes while her cheeks grew red at the thought he was going to kiss her
Her heart was calm, her head clear without any thoughts. The moment felt perfect. His lips never met hers; his fingers caressed her cheeks, rubbing on a spot while giving her faint sparks.
"There is a dirty spot on your face. It’s late and we should head back." He said then moved away. She opened her eyes to see him offering his hand. He was already on his feet.
She accepted his hand and got up from the stand.

The spring festival was already around the corner. Spring was celebrated in Darconia after a long, cold winter, and fields were green again. It marked the beginning of a new farming season, and generally, it was like a new year there.
The flowers were finally blooming and the city of Vitalis was more bustling than usual as everyone was excited for the festival. Nobles from outside the capital made it a tradition to travel to the capital for the spring festival.
Close to city gates a carriage rode steadily to the capital. Inside sat a lady who wasn’t in her best mood with a grumpy smile on her face.
"I can’t believe he actually went ahead without me. What kind of man can be so insensitive to let a princess travel on her own through these difficult roads." The princess’s red eyes were blazing. Sapphire was even feeling more enraged on getting to the capital knowing Cedric had the nerves to leave her
"Try to relax, Your Highness; we don’t want you getting stress lines on your face because of your anger." An attendant who was seated opposite the princess tried to get her to relax. Sapphire humphed, folding her arms under her bosom.
"If he thinks he can get rid of me that easily he has something else coming. This is all a temporary setback; he will regret it one day." Sapphire declared, her carriage continued to rock slightly as it proceeded.
Despite her demeanour, the princess’s heart was still aching, knowing Cedric decided to rush to the capital immediately after he got the faintest of his wife’s affair. It was unfair that Abrielle had his dedication.
At first, she was drawn to Cedric due to his strengths and abilities. She never expected him to be such a dedicated husband. Abrielle had no idea what she had in her hands.
It was all a matter of time before Cedric realized that he deserved something better. "How much longer before we get to the palace?" She asked her attendance, who was surprised by the sudden shift in the princess’s mood from terrifying storms to calm waters.
"A few more minutes." The attendant answered her.
