Chapter 192: Unwanted visitor

The deal was sealed, and the deposit was done. Abrielle had a pleasant smile as the carriage rode away. It took her months to achieve this. First, she had to request to handle her budget, then gain Lucas’s trust to control the entire house finances.

She was involved in the balance sheet and knew how everything was moved, the money flow of the castle. No one would suspect that she was spending a fortune on luxury.

They were now heading to one of Cedric’s boutiques. She had to get matching outfits for the jewellery she got. This was going to be a long trip.

It was already evening; the blue sky was mixed with an orange hue with the sun setting. Picking out dresses from an endless collection was more exhausting than Abrielle expected. She ended up spending the entire day buying clothes she might not have the chance to wear.

She later took a short break to have lunch before resuming her shopping spree, and now she was famished again. The carriage rode through the smooth roads leading into the seaside castle.

The carriage stopped at the main entrance and she stepped down from the carriage. "Please get the kitchen to start preparing dinner I am famished," Abrielle instructed Evelyn. She adjusted her coat and headed into the castle.

The kitchen was swift, and a few minutes later, dinner was ready. Abrielle was given some snacks to munch on while waiting for the main meal.

"The table is already set," Jubilee informed Abrielle, who was petting Yuki by the fireplace. It was quiet and peaceful.

"Alright, I will be heading down. By the way, have Yuki been fed?" She replied, the princess placed the cat on the floor and adjusted her dress.

"He has been fed already," Jubilee explained, the sounds of approaching footsteps interrupted Jubilee. Her eyes drew to Evelyn, which was matching with an obvious frown between her brows.

"Sorry for interrupting, but you have a guest," Evelyn informed Abrielle, leaving her stunned. She was not expecting anyone.

"A guest, who exactly is it?" She requested feeling restless and having a bad idea about this particular guest she was yet to confirm the identity.

"It is Prince Alfonso. He said you are expecting him and will not refuse to see him. " Evelyn explained, her words filled with suspicion. Abrielle closed her eyes to control her rage. She needed to be calm; if not, she might kill that annoying prince.

Alfonso wanted her to die earlier than expected. Did he want Cedric to have a reason to believe that she was indeed having an affair with Alfonso? Who comes to pay their brother’s wife a visit when he is out?

"Oh, I remember now. It skipped my attention. Where is the prince now?" Abrielle inquired; she rose to her feet, trying her best to keep a calm face.

"He is in the dining room waiting for you," Evelyn explained and she sensed the slight change in Abrielle’s mood that quickly adjusted. "What is he doing in the dining room?" She snapped at Evelyn unable to hold her anger anymore.

"Guests are meant to be welcomed in the waiting room, lounge or even sitting room. You should have left him outside." It was obvious that Abrielle was not that welcoming to Alfonso’s visit.

"That is my fault. I tried to turn him away using the excuse that you are about to have your meal, but he changed his mind, saying he wanted to have dinner with his sister-in-law." Evelyn explained. This was going to be a long meal. Alfonso just knew how to push her buttons.

The door to the dining room swung open, and Abrielle’s eyes immediately fell on the handsome gentleman with auburn hair who sat on the table like he owned the place. A forced smile quickly graced her lips.

"Prince Alfonso, we were not expecting a visit from you." She chimed, Alfonso smiled on seeing her obvious fake smile. It gave him a sense of humour getting on her nerves.

"I thought you agreed to pay me a visit." Alfonso lied smoothly purposely creating a misunderstanding. Abrielle almost cried out to ask when she ever agreed to meet up with him.

"It must have skipped my mind, I haven’t been feeling so well recently and couldn’t attend a couple of functions." Abrielle still kept her forced smile keeping up the lies. Alfonso knew he had her in his trap.

"So I heard, I was hoping to see you around but I guess you have been having a hard time. I am glad you are fully recovered now, you spent the entire day shopping." He answered. Abrielle’s forced smile cracked but she quickly straightened up her expression.

"I had no idea you were keeping an eye on my movements. It almost feels like you are stalking me." Abrielle blurted taking a seat opposite Alfonso. As much as she had no plan to share a meal with him, she was too famished right now to even force him out.

"Stalking is a strong word. Cedric isn’t the only one with eyes and ears everywhere. My ears found it interesting the ill princess was strong enough to go on a shopping spree." Alfonso chirped. Abrielle’s smile went stiff; regardless, she nodded at the maids to start serving the meal.

"So what do I owe the visit to Alfonso?" She asked him, the first course was soup. "I wanted to check up on you. You haven’t been in good health; it was even more sad Cedric had to leave the capital once you got back from Mount Lunarias." He said with the sweetest smile.

"I had no idea that you cared so much about me. As you can see I am faring well." Despite the talking in sweet voices, there was something off about the atmosphere.

"I can see. You are doing too well for someone whose husband has been away for a while and had a difficult journey. I was worried after hearing word of the letter sent by Princess Sapphire to her diplomat. I thought Cedric sent a letter to you. He did send one to Father, but he didn’t explain details like Sapphire did.".

Abrielle was a bit surprised that word was back so soon. "He sent a letter back." Abrielle gasped unable to hide her shock. Alfonso’s smile grew wider and he teased. "Don’t tell me your dear husband didn’t send a letter to you."
