Chapter 191: Money laundering

The tea was really refreshing, or was it the thought of the money Abrielle was diverting off? The dear princess didn’t know which, but she was in a pleasant mood either way.

She placed her cup on the table and then picked up one of her pastries for a bite while casually waiting for the sales representative to come back.

Evelyn was more puzzled and sensed something truly fishy about this but was not in the place to question Abrielle. She did hear about a couple of noble ladies who find pleasure in spending recklessly on clothes and jewellery; the list goes on. They sold the lie that it was made by a world-class artisan.

What did she expect? After all, Abrielle was infamously known to be spoilt by her parents as the only child.

Time drew and Abrielle was getting bored wondering how long it was going to take for the amount to be calculated. She started humming an old song to help with the boredom.

It was moments like this when she missed her phone. Sigh, that was all in the past. Just when the princess was about to get bored out of her head, the door creaked open, and two people came in. It was the sales representative and an older man.

"I am sorry it took a while; the items you are purchasing cost a fortune, so I needed help to get it right." The sales representative said with a polite bow apologizing to the princess.

"You are here now, that is what matters." Abrielle chimed with a gentle smile. The sales representative’s tensed face and cold sweats eased off. She was nervous Abrielle would be offended. A lot of wealthy people lacked something called patience; well, to them, time is money.

"I am glad the princess is not offended. This is Mr Winters our head accountant. He is going to help the princess with the paperwork to process the payment." The sales representative explained passing on the bill to Abrielle. The total cost of the jewellery Abrielle had chosen.

"It is an honour to be at the princess’s assistant." Mr Winters chirped bowing slightly to pay his respects. Abrielle didn’t care about the older man. Her head was busy calculating the numbers.

Evelyn sighed, seeing the cost; her heart ached. It must be good to be rich. Abrielle’s eyes sparkled it was indeed a lot of gold. This was perfect, her smile grew wider. "The payment will be made after the paperwork is finalized." Abrielle chimed.

"Yes, do you prefer finalizing the payment in my office or right here? Normally, I would suggest the office, but I guess the princess won’t prefer such a cramp-up space." Mr Winters suggested. That was just perfect for Abrielle.

"I Would prefer the office, sir; please lead the way." Abrielle instantly agreed getting up from her seat. Before Evelyn could process what was going on the princess was already out the door. She just followed eagerly behind through the narrow pathway.

Soon, they arrived at the door; the accountant held the door for Abrielle, and then he followed after. Evelyn was about to follow after her lady. Her instructions were to protect the Lady at all times outside the castle but the door was slammed against her face.

"We respect our clients privacy. It is a policy, everything will be done soon." The sales representative said standing by the door. Her words were strange and fishy without a doubt.

"Why can’t I accompany her to complete payments? Something about this store is fishy." Evelyn narrowed her eyes, the sales representative expression was still stoic as ever

"It is a store policy, and Her Highness agrees. I see no reason why a maid wants to get involved in the princess business. Our exclusive items have some rules: the room is cramped up, and the princess will feel stuffy if more than 2 people go in." Evelyn understood that they didn’t plan on letting her in neither did Abrielle want her inside either.

She clicked her tongue then stepped back.

Inside the room was anything but stuffy. It was a grande luxurious room more like a lounge than an office. Mr Winters led her to sit in the area. "Tea," he offered.

"I have had enough tea, I prefer we get right into business." Abrielle turned down the offer; the longer she spent here, the more suspicious Evelyn might get. She didn’t want to arouse too much suspicion.

"Oh, I understand; I hope you understand the nature of our activities and looking at the items you want to purchase, you plan on depositing a lot of money." Mr Winters explained.

"I do understand Mr Winters." Abrielle chimed. Mr Winters nodded then brought out the account documents to give to Abrielle

"Yeah, are the documents; you are free to use an alias and can withdraw whenever. The interest rate is also listed there. For exclusive items, 30 percent is the cost of the jewellery while 70 percent will be deposited into your account." Mr Winters started to explain the procedures. The reason most women opt for this shop is because of their price methods.

A huge percentage spent on purchases would be deposited into your account; that way, they could fool their husbands while they are actually siphoning the money to a secret account.

The more you buy, the higher the deposit; in other ways, the shop makes money from selling off their items, and women can easily save their money, which increases by interest.

The interest was gotten when the deposited money was used to run the store and given to money lenders that charge an atrocious interest rate, making the saved amount of interest substantial over time.

Mr Winters diligently explained the terms Abrielle already knew. She filled in her account details and then passed back the document. "Next time you want to deposit all you need to do is purchase an item from the exclusive list under this name." Mr Winters explained.

Only the exclusive items had exorbitant prices, with 30 percent being the actual price. "I understand, it is a pleasure doing business with you. The payment will be made immediately in coins, "

"The pleasure is mine," Mr Winters took Abrielle’s hand to place a kiss on it. "I appreciate you understand that I am depositing a large amount of money and would appreciate it that no one knows about this especially those related to my husband’s family."
