The Villianess story: A 100 ways to kill your husband
Chapter 189: The Queen’s invitation

Chapter 189: The Queen’s invitation

"This letter should be sent to Vesper immediately." She instructed Jubilee, handing over her reply. She had a feeling Cedric was also going to get an earful from her parents. They were going to nag him for being careless; unknown to them, the miscarriage was beyond either of their control.

Rebecca was a hardhead with a fiery spirit. Abrielle’s father always mentioned how similar the mother-daughter duo was, and now she thought about it. Hazel and Abrielle’s personalities were not so different.

"I will send it to the carriers as soon as possible." Jubilee accepted the letter but remained standing at a spot. She was hesitant and a bit nervous, which Abrielle sensed.

Her eyes narrowed on the younger girl, "is there anything else?" She asked Jubilee. Jubilee’s lips parted, but no words left her lips. She drew in a short breath before continuing.

"There is an invitation from the palace. I know you had instructed we should reject all invitations, saying you were still recuperating, but I think you should give this one a second thought." Jubilee explained to the princess.

Abrielle had an idea what event was coming and she felt a headache coming. "Fine, let me have a look at the invitation." She requested. Jubilee immediately handed over a pretty red envelope.

Abrielle recognized the Queen’s seal, it brought back bad memories. She unsealed the envelope to find out it was an invitation to a party she could not reject, unfortunately. Only Cedric could openly disrespect Eleanor and she honestly wished she was him because she didn’t want to attend this party.

It was a party to celebrate Eleanor’s recovery. With a bitter smile, Abrielle wrote another letter, this one being Addressed to Eleanor. She accepted the invitation she dreaded so much.

"Send this to the palace," she gave Jubilee the second letter, which the girl accepted, then excused herself from the room. The door shut after Jubilee left, and Abrielle’s forced smile immediately fell.

"Why does this keep happening to me?" She groaned, she was worried about this party. In the original plot, something bad Happened at the party, which was her fault, but with the way the plot was going, even if she didn’t take action, there was a large possibility that it would still happen, and she might be blamed.

She leaned back, sinking into the cushion-armed chair that had hints of sandalwood and cinnamon. Its scent was similar to his; of course, it was meant to smell like him. After all, this was his study.

The carriage rocked gently as it rolled through the crowded streets of Vatalis mainland, the heart of the empire. Through the window, Abrielle watched the bustling city pass by merchants calling out their goods, children running around causing chaos, and carriages like her own weaving through the chaos.

The scent of freshly baked bread and ice mixed with the less pleasant smells of city life, but she had grown used to it. The ice would soon melt and spring was close. It was the perfect excuse for her outing.

Seated across from her, Zoltana adjusted the sleeves of her cloak, eyes flickering between Abrielle and Evelyn, her snitch to Cedric. Evelyn was busy reading the list of the latest fashions since they were out here to shop.

She wondered if Evelyn had heard from Cedric; he should have gotten to Vesper by now, and there was no word from him. She was watching the street; her eyes caught a little boy who was about to run into a carriage. Abrielle’s eyes flickered, and the boy tripped on the floor, avoiding the hit.

The mother ran to his side to comfort the boy, who burst into tears after injuring his knee. That was a better fate than being hit by a carriage. A smile graced Abrielle’s lips. She was getting a hang of this magic stuff quicker than she imagined.

"Children are so clumsy," Zoltana clicked her tongue. She seemed to have caught sight of the scene. "It is only natural to want to play freely when you are young. His mother should have been careful. There was no way I would let my child run around on such a busy road." Abrielle chirped then went quiet as silent issued in the carriage.

"There is no way the little princess or Prince will be running on the busy road of Vitalis unsupervised. I doubt his highness would allow that," Zoltana stated. Abrielle felt a lump form in her throat. Why did she just imagine or even think about a child? What was wrong with her thinking about the impossible?

" Your Highnesses, are you certain you want to visit the jewellery shop first?" Evelyn asked, she was surprised when Abrielle announced her plan to go shopping. She had to respect the princess’s wishes. Cedric had placed Abrielle in her care.

"The dressmakers have received the new silks, and I heard they have imported some from outside the continent. Jasmine’s sales have soared thanks to our plan, and as the owner’s wife, I have to patronize and get some items." Abrielle explained. The boy was now away from her sight.

Abrielle turned from the window with a small, knowing smile. "I have been working so hard this winter and deserve a treat, But a new dress means new jewels, does it not? It would be a shame not to match." She sounded like a true noble lady.

Evelyn didn’t find her words odd. Abrielle did have a reputation for being a spendthrift. Luckily, Cedric was more than wealthy to afford his wife’s hobby.

Zoltana raised a brow, catching the subtle hint in Abrielle’s voice. She, of all people, knew that this trip wasn’t just about fashion. But she said nothing. Her eyes strayed to Evelyn, wondering how long Abrielle could fool the older maid.

The carriage came to a stop before a modest but elegant shop. It wasn’t a popular jewellery shop, which Evelyn found weird that Abrielle was patronizing such a place.

Its sign bore the name "Lady Florentia’s Fine Jewels." To any passerby, it was simply a store catering to noblewomen with expensive tastes. But to those who knew better, it was a bank made for women who wanted to keep some change away from their husbands. This was an important part of the princess’s plans.
