Chapter 178: A witch never dies easily
Cedric smiled at the accusations; he could not control flames but wielded stronger flames than this meaning, he could quickly put off the flames but he would not.
Why would he bother saving the woman who wanted him dead more than everyone? The only person that had slight chance in his heart for forgiveness was Abrielle and Eleanor was not Abrielle. "You should convince her to stop. she would soon break down from exhaustion." Cedric answered instead. He didn’t come here to give a helping hand his only intention was to make sure Callista didn’t die.
"You insufferable jerk," Lucian cursed, lost for words. He knew he could not force Cedric to help and begging him was pointless.
"If Callista dies it will be your fault." Lucian sneered then walked towards Callista’s side. "She won’t die under my watch," Cedric chimed; he watched them, especially Callista, who was giving her all.
There was something wrong about this fire, it seemed too familiar that it gave him a bad feeling. They felt like the same flames that appeared during Abrielle’s unsealing which meant one thing. His wife had caused the fire, and that was why she was running away.
Why did she want to kill Eleanor? Was it an accident? He wondered, but one thing was for sure: he wasn’t going to play the hero to stop the fire Abrielle started. If Eleanor dies it would do him a great favour knowing one person after his head and Abrielle’s life is gone.
Cedric was distracted by a sudden change in temperature, his eyes glimmering with amusement as he watched Alfonso.
Lucian was a swordsman, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t a talented mage, too. His main element was wind, Alfonso’s eyes were shining bright gold and all the windows burst open as a strong wind current blew in.
It was very chilly, and when combined with Callista’s water element, they basically created a blizzard that stood a chance against the flames. Callista coughed out a mouthful of blood while saying her incantation.
She did look like a heroin ready to fight anything but she was currently exhausted and still pushing herself. Cedric sighed at the thought. It was annoying watching how she refused to give up.
Fortunately for Eleanor, when the female lead and male lead joined forces, they were indeed powerful, and soon, the flames that Callista and the temple servants had been trying to contain finally went off.
The Library was filled with thick fumes of Carbon monoxide along with several other poisonous gases. Callista’s body finally broke down, her knees going weak, and she fell into Lucian’s arm. "Sorry I came late," he apologized.
"It is fine your mother is waiting. I am fine." She urged him to go. Lucian was torn but he nodded, then stood up to run through the burnt debris. Callista lost consciousness immediately Lucian was gone, but luckily, there were servants around to take her out of the toxic atmosphere.
Cedric didn’t leave yet but walked further into the library. His eyes darted around, watching how everything was completely destroyed; it was a miracle the fire didn’t cross to another room. He noted an important fact, handling Abrielle would be difficult if her flames were this strong.
Cedric stepped on something with a weird texture then stepped back. He kicked the lump on the floor and soon realized it was a human being already burnt to a crisp. He really wished it was Eleanor, but unfortunately, that witch wasn’t going to die easily.
"Mother," Lucian shouted trying to find his mother. His lungs were tormented smoke. Towards the end of the library, he found bodies lying on the floor; Lucian’s heart dropped to his stomach as he charged forward to examine the bodies.
The fire had not gotten this deep and burnt mainly at the front of the room but it seemed his mother fainted from air poisoning. Her pulse was weak but she was still alive with few burn marks.
"They were here," he called out for help, he was glad she was safe. His eyes darkened as he carried his mother’s. He was going to find the person behind this and make them regret their existence.
The other servants evacuated Jacinta and the body of the burnt priestess. Her body was burnt beyond recognition. Lucian got out of the library, and as expected, Cedric was waiting there, probably hoping to hear favourable news.
The hatred in Lucian’s heart deepened, Cedric could have stopped the fire if he wanted. "She is still alive." He simply said then left the area. Cedric didn’t make any comments.

Everyone on the floor was reassigned to the new rooms. The temple was very large and had a lot of extra rooms. The floor had to be evacuated because of the carbon poisoning.
Cedric could not return to Abrielle that night; he had to give Sebastian a helping hand since Lucian was too injured to help put things together, and the matter was below the king’s attention.
"Fortunately, all the scrolls and books in the library were just copies so the loss was not much. I really appreciate the help." Sebastian expressed his gratitude with a faint bow.
"There is no need to be too polite, we are technically family," Cedric answered Sebastian, which took him a bit unaware, but that was the truth he had to accept.
It was crazy knowing Sebastian was a potential suitor for Abrielle something Cedric was aware of. "We are indeed family," Sebastian emphasized. It was weird, but he had a feeling Cedric’s tone held some jealousy. The priest was nervous, wondering if Cedric was jealous of him because of how close he was to Abrielle or if it was an illusion.
"Something requires your attention, Your holiness". A junior priest called for Sebastian’s attention; his tone was urgent. "I will be there. Please excuse me your highness." Sebastian quickly fled the scene.
After he was gone, Elias appeared from the shadows he was lurking. "The princess is safe," Elias informed Cedric, whose gaze didn’t leave the direction Sebastian left. It was so annoying knowing how many men he had to be worried about because of the little ginger. Lucian, Alfonso and now an annoying cousin.
"Where did she disappear earlier on?" Cedric asked finally averting his eyes. He started to Walk down the path in the opposite direction as Sebastian.
"She was with Alfonso, they seemed to have had a secret conversation. " Cedric didn’t stop moving but a heavy pressure rose around him. He was pissed but his appearance was extremely calm. "Alfonso, again, the thought of killing my brothers becomes more pleasing with each passing day." He muttered in a very low tone.
