Chapter 177: A favour

While the temple was plunged into chaos, trying to stop the inferno that wanted nothing but to consume. They prayed the queen was still safe in the heat.

While this was going on Abrielle was figuring out how to get herself out of the sticky situation she found herself in.

Alfonso’s words were threatening, she understood what he meant. Her jaw slacked, her emotionless eyes staring back at him. She had gotten herself into Alfonso’s trap. "You can’t threaten me if you want to tell on me. You would have screamed calling out for attention, but you didn’t." Abrielle bravely challenged him trying to hold her stand.

"But I will once you step out, so be my guest." He chimed, making way for her to leave knowing she didn’t have the guts to get out.

"And let’s see if Cedric can save you from Kaiden’s wrath," he challenged, pushing her buttons. Abrielle was tempted to walk out just because of her stubbornness but she knew her limits and when to take a break.

She quickly ran the situation in her head, Eleanor already had planned on putting the attempted poisoning on her head. If this fire allegation was also added, her chances of defending herself would be limited, and it would be enough allegations to get her convicted of treason.

Her head would be chopped off, and who knows, Cedric might be designated her prosecutor.

She closes her eyes, muttering something inaudible; she finds out about something important at the cost of being entrapped by Alfonso.

"What do you want?" She hissed, trying to hold back her irritation. A soft smile curled up Alfonso’s face. He had her where he wanted.

"I want you to be mine," he bargained; she was puzzled by her request, completely taken back, wondering what he meant. "I don’t understand, I am married to your brother."

"Halfbrother, actually, and come on, you are not going to be the first noble lady to be a mistress. All I ask is that you obey my wishes. I won’t force you to do anything crazy like give me your body although I find you fascinating." He chimed with an evil glint shining in his eyes.

Abrielle felt so used she could not stand him or herself. Her eyes filled with rage as she glared at Alfonso. If looks could kill he would have died at that moment.

"I’d rather die than sell myself out. Alfonso, go ahead and tell Eleanor." She spat, determined to leave the cold balcony. She turned around reaching out for the door.

But stopped when she heard his chuckle; honestly, he did have a charming laugh, but it was pissing her to the core.

His eyes sparkled watching how defensive she was. She was indeed something intriguing that drew him close. "You are indeed something, I can’t help but want to know more." He mentioned.

Alfonso leaned forward to her ears. "No need to rush, I was joking. I won’t force you to be my mistress, but it is only a matter of time, my dear Abrielle, and you will be head over heels for me. Just know you owe me a huge favour that must be paid at the cost of your life."

"You are never going to let me be. are you?" Abrielle sneered at him, and Alfonso’s smile deepened. "It depends." He answered

A commotion at the temple entrance seemed to have drawn their attention as a group of horsemen came rushing to the temple. Abrielle could not see who it was clearly but she was sure it was Lucian.

She clicked her tongue and quickly left the balcony evacuating to safety.

Lucian raced like crazy to the temple; he had to push himself to the extreme to get rid of the horde of wolves that were holding him back. Word about his mother’s situation was sent to him, although he and Eleanor were not the best son and mother duo. She was still his mother.

From the main entrance, he could see the flames that had engulfed the library. Fear crept up his skin, he felt more uncertain if Eleanor was Still alive.

"Hiya," he urged the horse to move faster as soon as he was at the entrance. He didn’t wait to get any information about the situation and ran to the wing reserved for the royal family.

Time seemed to have gotten slower the faster he ran. Everyone was running away from the floor but he was the only one going in that direction.

Every sound blurred in his ears; hischeartbeat spiked up once he felt the intense heat from far away.

He finally arrived at the hallway, Which was filled with thick smoke he could barely see. Servants were running around with buckets of water.." is there no water mage around?" He shouted but was interrupted by a cough.

"Callista is trying to help out but the fire isn’t giving up." He heard someone say. The smoke was reducing visibility making it hard to find his way. "I guess I will have to go in myself," Lucian said. He had realized this fire might have magic origins, and the only solution would be to take out his mother from the fire.

"Your Highness is too dangerous," a knight that was accompanying Lucian said, trying to stop Lucian, but it was already too late. He had already rushed inside.

There were no water mages in the temple brave enough to face the fire except Callista, Lucian burst into the Library that was completely engulfed. His eyes immediately caught the sight of Callista, who was struggling to fight against the fire, and Cedric, who casually stood by doing nothing.

"Are they still alive?" He asked Callista, she could not answer because her attention was focused on a spell incantation. Cedric answered instead, "I think they are. The queen is trapped deep in the library with Lady Jacinta, but I fear the priestess that accompanied them is either dead or greatly injured." Cedric nonchalantly answered.

Lucian sensed something weird about the situation; the fire was hot and burning everything, but yet it didn’t come anywhere within 3 feet of Cedric. His hand curled into a fist. "You can control flames. Can’t you? " He said through his gritted teeth and a faint smile curled up Cedric’s face.
