The Villianess story: A 100 ways to kill your husband -
Chapter 171: It was because of her
Chapter 171: It was because of her
She had no idea why they were fighting or why Cedric was determined to kill Alfonso all she could do was scream. This was not the place he could do something like that; her reputation was already a mess because of a miscarriage, and talk less about what would happen when she got known as the wife of the man who beheaded his brother.
Cedric lunged forward, blinded by fury, his sword blade target to slay Alfonso’s head just before the tip sliced his throat, and Cedric’s hand froze. Time seemed to have stopped and Abrielle’s breath was hitched.
He heard her call his name but he didn’t glance over. Alfonso was so terrified, his knees weak, and he fell on the ice-cold ground covered with snow.
"Cedric," another female voice called softly, it wasn’t Abrielle but Callista who was trying to get back up. She tried to get up in the process and ended up coughing out a mouth full of blood.
Cedric’s gaze finally moved, deliberately avoiding eye contact with Abrielle. He covered his sword and then walked towards Callista. There was an exchange between Cedric and Callista, that no one heard. The entire process, Abrielle held her breath, wondering what was happening. She was still puzzled.
Why was Callista injured? Why was Cedric about to kill Alfonso? Why did it hurt he ignored her? "What are you thinking Abrielle? Of course, you are irrelevant the moment Callista is hurt." Abrielle whispered to herself.
Cedric bent over, carrying Callista in his arms, and made his way towards the temple. The crowd cleared for them. No one dared stand in his path. Abrielle stood watching him approach her with his face blank.
Cedric stopped briefly in front of her. "You should not stay out in the snow." He said, his voice so emotionless that Abrielle felt a slight pinch in her heart. She didn’t know what to answer nor did he wait for her reply when he walked past her into the temple.
"Are you alright?" Sebastian asked seeing Abrielle was still in a dazed state. Abrielle felt slight shivers on her skin like goosebumps despite wearing her gloves. "I am fine." She answered as soon as she could open her mouth.
Her eyes trailed towards Alfonso, who was still on the floor, seated on the snow. She rushed towards him, but no one stepped forward to help him due to the situation, probably scared of incurring the royal wrath.
"Alfonso," Abrielle called out. Alfonso managed to get up on hearing her but his legs were still weak. Blood was trailing down from the light cut on his neck.
Abrielle rushed to catch him before he fell again but he was a bit too heavy for her to hold. She also lost her bearing falling. "Let me help you," Sebastian said giving a hand.
The temple workers had already cleared everyone and no one would dare speak about this fight unless it was silent whispers. "Thank you, Sebastian," Abrielle chimed.
They were able to help Alfonso up and lead him inside. Abrielle had questions but didn’t know if this was the right moment for it.
After getting down the main pathway to the temple, a couple of knights came over to help the prince, but Alfonso rejected it. "I can handle myself." He groaned trying to get a hold of himself. Luckily he had gotten over Cedric’s murderous intent, it was embarrassing how he stood there waiting to be slaughtered
Alfonso’s hand clenched his fist trying to control his anger. Sebastian recognized the feeling brewing in Alfonso and knew he wanted to be along. "I will excuse myself. Good night, your Highnesses." Sebastian bowed and left. It was now left to Alfonso and Abrielle.
Abrielle was a bit hesitant to leave, "You don’t have to walk me to my room dear princess. Your husband won’t like it." Alfonso taunted.
Abrielle’s face scrunched up, the same husband that was with another woman knows. "He is too busy taking care of Callista to care." She answered following Alfonso behind. She decided to choose her curiosity. Alfonso’s wound was not bleeding again but it needed treatment.
"You sound jealous, Abrielle," Alfonso scoffed increasing his pace. He was more energetic than he was earlier "I am not jealous. She is seriously injured, and that aside, why were you fighting with Cedric? Are you not going to take care of your injuries?" She started bombarding Alfonso with questions. The hallway was empty since this was the part of the temple reserved for the royal family.
Alfonso stopped talking, Abrielle’s eyes watching over his broad shoulders. "I was pissed at him and wanted the vent. There is no need to worry about my injuries; a maid will take care of it for me.." he answered, then glanced over his shoulders with a sly grin on his face. "Unless you want to help me. I actually will appreciate the initiative."
Abrielle was taken aback by the sudden flirtatious advances he was making. He definitely didn’t seem like someone who was about to die a few minutes ago.
"Can you be serious? For once, Cedric was about to kill you a few minutes ago, and all you can say is you wanted to vent. Why was Callista injured? Where is Lucian?" She burst out at Alfonso who was stunned. This was the first time he had seen her so worked up.
"They were attacked by rabid wolves while fighting another avalanche struck. Cedric arrived just in time to help out but Callista was seriously injured. The rest of the team was still overwhelmed by the wolves and disaster, so Lucian could not abandon them. Cedric, along with another knight, took Callista and Ophelia to safety. At least, that was what I was told." Alfonso explained.
Everything sounded foreign to Abrielle, Cedric had to save Callista. It wasn’t special but Cedric Von Drakkar didn’t care about many people. Abrielle was still trying to put the puzzle together when she heard Alfonso again.
"He didn’t do anything wrong but I was mad to see he prioritize someone that wasn’t you. The entire temple is rubbing your name in the mud but he isn’t here. Still, when he came back, his focus was on Callista. I just wanted to vent."
Alfonso poured it out. He was now facing her, his hazel eyes keenly watching Abrielle.
Abrielle didn’t understand why Alfonso wanted to fight Cedric for such a reason.
