Chapter 172: He doesn’t love her
The hallway was empty; only two figures could be seen: a tall masculine figure and a petty girl. The soft light from the candle lighted the halls spreading its soft golden lights.
The night had gotten deep already and only a few still roamed the temple at this hour. "You didn’t have to fight him. What if he had killed you?" Abrielle stated the facts, unable to understand his foolishness. She knew he wasn’t telling her everything.
"I am glad you care if I live or not. It gives me a sense of comfort, " he chimed with a teasing smile.
Abrielle rolled her eyes at him, "Cedric killing you would ruin my already bad reputation. Don’t get ahead of yourself." She sneered at him, crossing her arms under her bosom. She could not believe that she actually felt sorry for him earlier.
Alfonso smiled, taking a step forward, which made Abrielle step back, nervous of him. This continued for a few steps until he had her back against the wall, caging her. "What are you doing?" She asked, her eyes glaring at him as she shrank back to the wall. He was intimidating.
"Just checking if you are telling the truth," Alfonso said leaning forward. Abrielle held her breath as she sank into confusion. "Please stop, this isn’t appropriate." She warned him, still glaring.
"Your glare is cute; staying like this really gives me the urge to kiss you." Alfonso brazenly said to her, his gaze filled with lust that disgusted her to the gut. Her face twisted up; she had an irresistible urge to slap him across his face, which she did.
Alfonso saw through her and caught her hand. "I always knew you were the feisty type. It makes me more intrigued and jealous of him." He said in a seductive low voice placing a kiss on her hand that made her feel more awkward.
"Alfonso, what are you doing?" A feminine voice gasped from behind them, followed by fast-approaching footsteps. The woman was obviously on her heels running in their direction.
Alfonso hissed, irritated by the voice he recognized without looking back. "I guess we will have this conversation later." He chirped back away..
.
"What are you doing with her, Alfonso?" The voice asked this time, sounding very enraged at Alfonso. Abrielle’s heart sank once she saw Karissa storming towards her with an obvious frown. ’ You fuck up again.’ she cussed herself.
Karissa was so mad she ran over, wanting to hit Abrielle, but her son stopped her, which infuriated her the most. Abrielle stepped aside and then quickly left the scene, not in the mood to explain anything. "Stop overreacting, Mother." Alfonso snapped at his mother who still wanted to go after Abrielle.
Karissa yanked her hand that was in Alfonso’s hold then slapped him on his face. The sound of her palm striking against his skin echoed. Alfonso let her since they were the only ones here, and he knew his mother wanted to vent.
Her slap stung a bit but that was it. "You think I am overreacting? What do you expect when I hear my son almost got killed by that demon, and next I see his wife trying to seduce you?" She barked, her chest heaving and face flushed. She had a mild dislike for Abrielle but now it was turning into something deeper.
"She wasn’t seducing me; God, you are giving me a headache. I am injured, mother." He groaned, massaging his forehead.
"Now you are defending her. She must be the reason you were crazy enough to fight Cedric." Karissa spat, unknowingly saying the truth. Alfonso’s gaze didn’t change at the accusations. "It has nothing to do with her. Just let Abrielle be, she already has a lot on her shoulders to bear."
Something flickered in Karissa’s gaze and she was sincerely taken aback. Her lips parted then closed as fear crept into her heart. She struggled to speak, scared of her premonition being true. "Please tell me you don’t love your stepbrother’s wife. Anyone but Cedric’s wife." She asked, feeling herself breaking apart. Alfonso didn’t give an immediate answer and that seemed to have gotten her more scared.
Soon, a light chuckle rang, leaving Karissa dumbfounded. "Love?" He snickered, acting like he heard one of the biggest jokes ever. "It has nothing to do with love. I am just interested because she might be a possible weakness but now things are clear she might not be the one." He explained. It sounded convincing but Karissa wasn’t convinced. She just held onto his reasoning hoping it was the truth.
"Fine, let’s get your injuries attended to. I honestly don’t like her." Alfonso nodded at his mother.

Cedric didn’t return that night, and Abrielle didn’t understand why it bothered her. It was expected of the plot. Callista was the one they saw but her eyes didn’t have an atom of sleep.
After fleeing from the earlier embarrassing situation she was in with Alfonso, she went back to her room, where she got ready for the night after having dinner alone.
She didn’t ask, but Elias took the initiative that Cedric wanted to help out with the injured survivors. It was a way to sugarcoat your husband’s taking care of his lover.
"I hope Lucian gets back soon and kicks his balls." She muttered, tucked under the covers, her eyes watching the window as it snowed slowly. She groaned and then sat up. She wasn’t getting any sleep.
Feeling a bit frustrated, Abrielle decided to go out for a short walk and maybe spy on the husband that is helping out with the injured, although that was a secret reason she would not admit to herself, and self-righteously claimed she just wanted to stretch her legs.
Luckily she had a pair of sandals that were comfy to wear. Abrielle didn’t bother to change out of her outfit. The door opened a little red hair peeking out through the gap. How convenient there were no guards, no knights. Not that she was in any harm.
She slowly closed the door behind her to start her adventure with a secret intention in mind.
