Chapter 149: A second wife
Chapter 149: A second wife
"That is no excuse for the embarrassment he has caused my sister. There is no way an enslaved priestess can compare to Sapphire." Ryker spat supporting his sister. Lucian wanted to avoid the responsibilities of the marriage and used Callista as an excuse.
He was fully aware of the food shortage and knew that Galvia was interested in gaining Darconia’s support because of its military strength. So, they seized the opportunity to try to take advantage of the situation by marrying their princess as the future crown princess.
"I can’t believe we were made to eat in the presence of dirt.." Ryker spat. Callista could not hold back her tears even if she wanted to after her heart was torn to pieces by Ryker’s words.
The windows burst up with a strong wind blowing inside that pushed Ryker off his seat. "You have a right to talk to her that way." Lucian barked at Ryker on his feet, his eyes blazing gold.
The room was thrown into a frenzy, instinctively, Cedric pulled Abrielle to cover her from the chaos, but the little mischievous princess was curious how this would end.
Sapphire’s eyes were wide, stunned that Lucian had attacked her brother. Ryker tried to get on his feet but the pressure from Lucian was too strong. Unlike Darconia, where their royalty was blessed by the dragons with magic, Galvia worshipped the goddess of the harvest, who made their field fertile, so they didn’t have much combat magic.
Sapphire got on her feet to beg, "Please stop this madness." She cried out loud. Eleanor was too stunned to see how far Lucian could go for the priestess. Her hatred for Callista doubled.
They could only control the weather to suit the crops; although he didn’t have combat magic, Ryker was still a good fighter skilled with swords. "You bastard." Ryker barked, throwing a dagger towards Callista, but it was diverted, then flew towards Abrielle.
"Stop this instance." Kaiden’s voice boomed with authority that made Ryker freeze after he threw the dagger, but Lucian didn’t stop. He still exercised his authority on Ryker, scaring him to the core.
Abrielle saw it coming; her face went pale. Why was she being targeted? The dagger was just an inch away when it got engulfed by black flames instantly turning it into ash.
Then, a dark pressure that was ice chilly got into everyone’s bones, overshadowing Lucian. The king did his best to keep his stance while Lucian gritted his teeth and recognized Cedric’s murderous Intent.
He has felt it several times so he could keep up with it. The room was quiet, and Cedric’s gaze was on Abrielle despite him being crowded by a dark energy. She was still stunned by a near-death experience. "Relax, everything will be over soon." He assured her tenderly like they were the only ones here.
No one mattered at the moment. Astrid teeth gritted, watching their public display of love; it should have been her. It was weird seeing a tender side of Cedric. Spellbound Abrielle nodded.
In the original plot, Cedric did step in to stop the fight, but it was when Callista was put in danger when she tried to help Lucian.
He almost killed the siblings from Galvia because of his unrestrained anger. That anger ended up even putting Callista in greater danger; he was a monster once blinded by wrath he saw nothing else.
His wrath almost started a war. Seeing that Abrielle was fine his gaze went back to the table. "You can go out to cry, Callista. Don’t hold it back. It isn’t worth it." His voice even grew softer causing Abrielle to narrow her eyes at him.
Callista bowed her head, biting her lower lip. She wasn’t that weak. Cedric sighed, then spoke, "Please take your seat. Let’s be civil. After all, we are all royalty here." He instructed. Despite his hesitant Ryker listen, Sapphire helped him up and they took their seats.
Lucian scoffed at them before sitting down, his eyes met Cedric for a hidden agreement. They might be rivals but they both wanted one thing.
"I don’t understand why you are so mad, Ryker. Did you honestly think you had an equal ground on this table?" Cedric asked, causing Ryker to clench his fist.
"The agreement was for a marriage to be held," Ryker said through his gritted teeth. "Who said there won’t be a wedding?" Lucian was the one who asked, puzzling Eleanor, who looked like she was being left out of the loop.
"But you said the priestess is your fiance." Sapphire sneered at Lucian. Honestly, the reason she agreed to this wedding was because he was the crown prince and Lucian was quite a charmer, but she had heard the rumours about the ruthless princes of Darconia.
Although the first prince was publicly known as a monster, Lucian was the tyrant of the battlefield, while Alfonso was a sly fox. He made two territories destroy each other, but he never picked a sword. That was how terrifying this family was.
Now she knew who the strongest was; it wasn’t just rumoured that the masked prince that destroys armies in just a night was a bloodthirsty demon. She was still shaking from the murderous intent
"I did, but I can always take another wife. But be assured that it doesn’t assure you of the crown princess position. You will have to fight for it. There is the option of choosing another prince or Prince Ryker taking my sister Ophelia as his bride." Lucian explained it was meant to be a negotiation, and his show of strength made things harder for the other party.
"I can’t accept that; I am more than qualified to be the crown princess, or not, your kingdom will starve." Sapphire stood her ground; Abrielle recovered from her initial shock of almost being killed and resumed her meal. She knew the other party would not do anything stupid. This action alone enraged Sapphire and Ryker, but Cedric was just amused at his wife’s confidence.
"Then why do you feel threatened by Callista’s presence? If you are qualified then be my guest to be my second wife and fight for the position." Lucian asked silencing everyone,
Sapphire smirked, "If I am to choose to be the second wife of a prince of Darconia, I rather choose Cedric. I demand that I become the first and you are free to keep your lover as a second." Abrielle choked on her food.
