Chapter 143: Claimed Mistress
Chapter 143: Claimed Mistress
Alfonso’s eyes were wide, stunned to see the princess at the door. He was on the floor being pressed down by a noble lady. If the situation was being looked at properly, it seemed like the lady wanted to take advantage of the prince, which is uncanny because Alfonso was stronger than the wophysicallyically.
This was a bit unexpected but Abrielle had an idea what was happening. An old lover of Alfonso wanted him to do some explaining. "Duchess Elizabeth," Aurora gasped. The Duchess, who was in an equal state of shock as Alfonso, didn’t know what to do at the moment.
Alfonso used her state of shock to escape her clutches before moving towards Abrielle’s side. "Lady Aurora," the duchess stuttered. She had no idea that Abrielle was Cedric’s wife, but being seen by Aurora in such a situation was super embarrassing.
Elizabeth clutched her dress glaring at Alfonso before she fled the room. "She is married," Abrielle said as a matter of fact, recognizing the martial bond on her finger.
Aurora had the urge to laugh at Alfonso, but at last, he was a prince, and she was just of the nobility. "Yes she is," she scoffed, answering Abrielle.
"It is not what it looks like." Alfonso hurriedly wanted to explain fixing his clothes. Abrielle arched her brow at him. "What does it seem like, dear brother-in-law? You were in a compromising position with a married woman in a public space." Abrielle sneered with a fake smile that made Alfonso’s jaw clench.
"I was being assaulted by the lady and I couldn’t get away because it would be ungentlemanly of me to." Alfonso came up with an excuse which was not far from the truth. Elizabeth was the one who had approached him while he was at the store to accompany someone when he accidentally crossed paths with Elizabeth, an old lover he lost interest in after he got what he wanted.
"That is really unfortunate, but a lot might think otherwise, especially the duke. But in the end, we got here on time." Abrielle chirped in, still keeping up her smile. Alfonso was confused if she believed him or not, and honestly, he didn’t want to have rumours either. His day was completely jinxed by that woman.
Duchess Elizabeth was a lady from low nobility who married her husband, a duke, due to an arranged marriage. Her husband was at least 2 decades older than her and she faced a lot of pressure during the early days of her marriage until she came across Alfonso.
Alfonso, on the other hand, was only interested in getting information about her husband, so when he came into Elizabeth’s life at her lowest point as a means to rest her shoulders on and offer comfort, she embraced him but went a bit ahead of herself.
Elizabeth was delusional and thought it was true love and a prince would remain loyal to a married woman, but at last, the reality was completely different from what she envisioned when Alfonso left her after he had all the information needed and never glanced back.
Now she heard rumours of him being interested in another noble lady, not just anyone but the wife of his brother, Abrielle Nightshade. Unfortunately for the duchess, she was not at the victory banquet and had no idea that the person at the door was the claimed mistress.
Elizabeth quickly left the store. On the way out, she came across another lady Alfonso had accompanied earlier. She scoffed at the lady with obvious displeasure before leaving the store.
Inside her carriage, her face twisted in disgust thinking about the claimed new lover of Alfonso. According to sources, Alfonso had requested a dance from her, and they acted pretty close.
People claimed the princess was very beautiful with seductive characteristics but what made Elizabeth that was delusional about Alfonso was the fact the princess was married to Cedric. That made Abrielle a valuable asset.
Elizabeth’s face cringed as her carriage rode away from the store. Her personal maid quietly waited for her lady to speak. "Bertha, I need you to gather every possible information on Abrielle Nightshade. I want to know what is so good about her." Elizabeth instructed her eyes shining with a strange determination.
"I will contact a guide as soon as possible." Bertha bowed slightly. The anger in Elizabeth’s eyes blazed, remembering how Alfonso rejected her advances after literally throwing herself at him. He was hers and couldn’t toss her away after using her.
Back inside the store, Alfonso was in an embarrassing situation; of all people, why did it have to be Abrielle who caught him? "I will appreciate it if no one hears a word of this." Alfonso hinted, which Abrielle understood.
"I understand, but I can’t help but wonder what made the duchess act in such a way towards you." She asked acting oblivious, after all Abrielle was meant to be ignorant of Alfonso’s habit. Although there were rumours, they were not concrete.
"I don’t have an idea either. I am sorry for interrupting you." Alfonso said with a slight bow. Soft footsteps approached from behind Abrielle then called out lightly. "Alfonso," a feminine voice called. A smirk graced Abrielle’s lips as she glanced over her shoulder to see who the person Alfonso was accompanying was
Abrielle’s expression fell for a moment, but she quickly controlled it after seeing the familiar silver hair. "Callista, where did you go?" Alfonso asked.
He was at the store as a favour for Callista who wanted to visit the store but didn’t have anyone to accompany her. Callista had suddenly gone missing, and while Lucian searched for her, he ran into Elizabeth. "I am sorry I got lost and the princess is here also." Callista chimed.
Abrielle tried her best not to overreact, but whenever she met the female lead, it always kept her on the edge. "I see you are with someone. If you don’t mind, I would like to excuse myself." Abrielle nodded wanting to flee. She didn’t like being around Callista as it was always a bad omen.
Since Abrielle was of higher status, she was not obligated to greet Callista, especially when the other didn’t acknowledge her presence. Abrielle was about to leave when an annoying voice stopped her. "Your Highnesses, sorry about my rudeness earlier, but can I please have a word."
