Chapter 115: Gain the Queen’s favour
Chapter 115: Gain the Queen’s favour
The sky was beautiful with a mixed hue of blue and red as the sun slowly rose. Cedric was called back to the palace for an emergency. It had to do with the fact he deliberately neglected his work yesterday to stay by Abrielle’s side.
There was a large blue screen in front of Abrielle which she was not sure if she should be so happy about in the first place. The bedside when Cedric slept was already cold, meaning he had left very early in the morning, but the sun was barely up.
This was winter in Darconia, which was characterized by early sunrise.
CONGRATULATIONS.
SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF HIDDEN QUEST
QUEST: SAVE THE QUEEN LIFE IN THE FEMALE LEAD STEAD
REWARD: REDUCE THREAT TARGETED AT YOUR LIFE
QUEEN FAVOURABILITY HAS INCREASED.
Abrielle subconsciously released along She was glad she was over with that now. She wondered if the queen was able to find the person who got the maid to do it.
WARNING
UNDETECTABLE FOREIGN OBJECTS ARE WORKING ON THE HOST BODY AND ARE TREATING YOUR HEALTH.
DO YOU WANT THE SYSTEM TO CLEAN IT?
YES OR NO
Abrielle’s brows furrowed at the message. She had no idea what it meant, but since it was mentioned her health was at risk, she gave permission.
HOST HAVE GIVEN PERMISSION
CLEAN UP PROCESS HAVE BEGAN
WARNING: THIS MIGHT CAUSE SOME MINOR INCONVENIENCE TO THE HOST.
After reading the warning, Abrielle was suddenly hit by a sharp pain in her neck. All the air was knocked out of her lungs, and she felt like screaming, but she dared not before she ended up drawing attention to herself.
The flame mark on her neck turned gold and was flickering. The pain made her fall on the bed as she struggled to breathe. It was too unbearable and she cried for it to just stop. Tears streamed down her eyes as she scampered on the bed.
Her eye sight was blurring, and her consciousness seemed to be slowly fading away, yet the unbearable pain didn’t stop.
FAILURE, .
FAILURE..
Failure notice started running flash on the screen until it eventually disappeared. The pain started to disappear; it was like everything was an illusion because her neck, which seemed to be on fire earlier, was now cold to the touch. The only evidence left was the sweat that covered her body.
The mark on her turned back to its initial black colour. Lying flat on the bed she tried to catch her breath.
The maids came later to get her ready for the day. She didn’t wear a corset gown but something simpler for her due to her health. After getting ready for the day she proceeded to have breakfast on her own then she went to see Lucas
.
Luckily, Cedric had approved her request, and she now had access to the account documents. Going through the documents she was impressed with how detailed it was.
Lucas was indeed a talent. "This is very impressive." She praised him; Lucas stood by her side, waiting for her to call him over again to explain some things, but it seemed like she didn’t need his help and was handling everything perfectly well.
"I am glad the princess is impressed. Is there anything that you need my explanation on?" He requested, but Abrielle shook her head. It wasn’t a hassle to understand it when Lucas organized it perfectly well, not to forget she was an accounting student. The only problem was how she was going to siphon funds when Lucas’s sharp eyes might easily catch her.
"No, I am good. Are these all the records?" She enquired. Cedric’s assets were according to what she imagined it to be. "This is everything from the timeline you requested," Lucas informed, and she nodded that day.
Abrielle had an unexpected visitor from the palace that she could not ignore. Later that day.
The doors swung open, and Abrielle walked into the drawing room. Her eyes fell on the beautiful raven-haired lady who was seated in the seat, awaiting her presence.
Abrielle curtseyed at the visitor. "Good morning your majesty. It’s an honour to have you here." She greeted the queen, who had personally come over to the castle to visit her after Cedric’s declaration that she wasn’t allowed to visit the palace.
"Abrielle, you look better than yesterday." The queen commented. This was Abrielle’s house technically but the queen acted like she owned the place. "I just took a good nap. Your majesty, how was night?" Abrielle politely asked before taking her seat.
" It was bad and I am not sick. I don’t know if you have an idea why I am here but I am grateful for saving my life." The queen said. Just as the system said the queen was indeed a bit favourable to her.
"It is nothing. I just wanted to help." Abrielle nervously laughed to which the queen also chuckled. "You saved my life despite how everyone was against you, including me. That is quite admirable of you," Eleanor explained with a smile that she had no idea Abrielle rather wanted her dead, but she was forced to listen to the system.
"To be honest, if you were to get sick after drinking my tea, I would obviously be the first person targeted by suspicion, so I was also looking after myself," Abrielle explained which was half true. Eleanore smiled at Abrielle.
"That was still brave of you, " she added. They were both having some black tea that was served with cream and sugar. Abrielle’s own was a bit too sweet as she was a sweet tooth. The aroma filled the room, and the ladies continued to sip tea.
Eleanor dropped her cup, and then her gaze went to Abrielle. "I have a question to ask you." She mentioned and Abrielle understood she was asking for her permission. "Of course, if it is something I can answer." She replied and Eleanore nodded at her.
She took a deep breath and then glanced at the queen. "Do you have any idea who sent you the maid?" She asked Abrielle, who was a bit confused.
"It would be better to interrogate the maid. My answer might not be correct.* Abrielle suggested not being comfortable with the question. Her grip on her cup tightened.
"Unfortunately, I can’t; the maid was found dead today in the dungeons. It seemed like she was killed last night." Abrielle’s eyes went wide.
