Chapter 114: Forbidden emotions

His arms were wrapped around her securely as he pulled her closer to his chest more like to his heart. Abrielle could hear his heartbeat, which was slow and periodic.

This wasn’t the way she imagined to be woken up, by his side and him looking at his seductive body under the warm light of the fire. Her cheeks subconsciously turned red. She tried to move squirming in his hold, which successfully woke Cedric up.

"Can you stop moving?" He muttered, trying to sleep, but his sudden hoarse voice made her jolt, wanting to flee from his arms, but he just pulled her back, pressing her against his chest with his chin lying on her head. "What are you doing in my bed?" She asked the strong scent of sandalwood was infiltrating her senses

She was slowly getting addicted to his scent without a doubt. "Do I need a reason to be in my wife’s bed?" He asked her which left Abrielle speechless. Her lips pursed into a thin line as she remembered the image of him and Callista in the garden, giving her this sense of bitter jealousy she dared not have in her.

"You make it seem like you actually have a sense of affection for me." She mentioned that Cedric stiffened at her words and created a bit of distance between them, making it possible to see her face. Her blue eyes met with those distinct gold eyes of his. He had a neutral expression, and he didn’t study her features.

"What do you think?" He asked, "Huh," she didn’t understand the question, so he repeated his words. "I mean what do you think about your position in my heart?" He asked, and her eyes dulled, losing the light in it. "I would rather not talk about it," Abrielle answered, then shifted her position in his arms, trying to ignore his strong presence.

Her gaze was now on the flame with her back against Cedric. She felt him move closer, his arm circling her waist. "Why don’t you want to talk about it?" His voice was very close to her ears as he whispered making it go slightly red while she felt one of his hands slowly crawl up her thigh under her nightgown. There were faint sparks at his touch that were igniting an ember in her.

What did he think he was doing? She wanted to snap at him but knew it was better. She shut her mouth not to get on his nerves, but this was uncomfortable. "It is an unpleasant topic. There is no need for us to pretend or anything. I know you don’t like me and it’s fine because I don’t hold you in my heart in that way either." Her voice was steady and firm. She felt her heart squeeze after saying those words like she just betrayed herself.

Cedric’s hands that were crawling on her thigh froze. He didn’t like her reply; it didn’t sit well with him in the least bit. Before Abrielle could register what was happening, Cedric had already grabbed her hand pinning above her head as he climbed over her. "What are you doing?" She asked as panic ran through her eyes, and she looked at his heated gaze.

"I should be the one asking you that, but first of all, tell me why you are certain I don’t have any affection for you." His question was ridiculous to Abrielle, who remembered what happened this past month when they were married.

"Your actions don’t show like you do. You can end my life on a whim, and you have never stood up for me when it mattered." She stated that she did not feel intimidated by his gaze in the slightest. Cedric was stunned by her answer.

He immediately remembered the victory banquet; he didn’t support her that night, and when she slipped the wine on Callista the first time, all he did was pull her away. Why didn’t he think it was an accident? His first thought was that she had purposely humiliated Callista.

"I am sorry," he said, which left Abrielle stunned. "I am sorry for the way I acted that night. I didn’t know what came after me or why I froze the moment you ran away. I guess I have been a terrible husband." He apologized to her, something she wasn’t expecting.

She was still stunned by his words when she felt his soft lips meet her for a tender kiss that ignited a spark between them. Cedric didn’t wait for her to return the kiss and continued to indulge himself in her.

The more he kissed her, she craved for more but she should not want anything from her. She should not be feeling this way for him; it would cause her death but yet the image of Cedric and Callista was etched into her brain.

Why was he kissing her? He wondered. Honestly, he didn’t know why, but it felt like the right thing to do at the moment. The kiss was tender and patient, the kind of emotions she never expected to feel from him. Her eyes welled up with tears that slowly started to run down her cheeks.

The cold sensation touched Cedric’s face, and he stopped moving away; panic filled his eyes as he gingerly tried to clean her tears. "Why are you crying? Did I hurt you in any way?" He asked, but she didn’t answer him as the liquid continued to pour from her eyes, leaving him distraught.

His heart squeezed and he didn’t know what to do. A bitter feeling crossed his mind that she hated his touch and maybe he was too pushy at the moment. Rolling over the other side of the bed he pulled her into his embrace. Her tears continued to run down his skin.

He muttered something, and she fell asleep; he didn’t understand his emotions at the moment. He wanted her not just sexually but wanted more; this felt forbidden like he wasn’t meant to want her that way.

He wanted to possess every part of her and her tears just broke him with the look she carried in his eyes. It was sad. She didn’t want him touching her but he could not stop himself from doing that.

He should not have kissed her earlier but his selfishness didn’t let him. Then a thought plagued his mind. Was he in love with Abrielle? Or it was worse, a forbidden obsession.

What other reason could it be? Despite all the cons, he was still drawn to her. Then a bitter smile graced his lips at his absurd thoughts. How could he start developing feelings for someone who was no different from the rest and hated him? This was a curse.
