Chapter 390: Veil of Darkness (Part Four)

Silence enveloped the chamber as the Dark energy absorbed Annalise’s words. It neither retaliated nor conceded; instead, it remained an enigmatic force, observing the human who dared to challenge its existence.

"Annalise..." Esmeray’s voice broke through the stillness, his concern evident. He had finallh given up on using the mind link to speak with her as he spoke out loud this time, completely ignoring the presence of the Dark energy. He could feel the gravity of the situation, the precarious dance between life and the all-encompassing darkness. He was worried for her safety, anxious that she might push the Dark energy way too much and end up in grave danger.

Annalise finally turned her gaze toward Esmeray, her expression unyielding. "Why? Don’t you agree with my words? You must know this better than anyone else, Esmeray. Light and Darkness are two sides of the same coin. They belong together. Just like how the Queen of Light and King of Darkness are made for one another, the Light energy and the Dark energy also belong together."

Esmeray grappled with conflicting emotions. Annalise’s perspective resonated with a truth he and his mate had long overlooked. The dichotomy of light and dark, once inseparable, had been forced into bitter opposition, resulting in the current consequences of their separation.

The past ten thousand years, he had believed that he was only one suffering the loss of his soulmate. He didn’t realize that he himself was the reason for separting two souls.

"But you aren’t the only one at fault here." Annalise’s voice was filled with sadness as he once again turned to look at the Dark energy to admit the mistakes they all had made. "We all are equally responsible for today’s situation. We created an imbalance in the nature and instead of rectifying it, we continued to make things worse. Light and Darkness are the creators of all the magic that we have in our world. They have given us our seven beautiful elements. These two energies balance our world together. Separating them means meddling with the said balance."

Her words echoed in the air, challenging the very fabric of their actions that had brought them to their current situation. Even though Esmeray and the Late Light Fae Queen were the ones who made the first mistake, the rest of the world equally participated in solidifying that mistake even further. None of them was innocent.

The Dark energy, now a silent witness, finally put on a hold on its goal of destroying the world. It just wanted to know what the woman in front of it had to say further, because just like it had made it pretty clear before - an apology wasn’t what it wanted. Revenge seemed much better than a futile apology.

Esmeray felt torn in that moment. He was ready to surrender himself to the Dark energy so that it could give up on its idea of destroying their entire world and would consider returning to the Primordial Realm. However, after realizing his true mistakes, he no longer believed that an apology and surrendering himself would mean anything to the Dark magic.

He took a deep breath, embracing the weight of responsibility. He stepped forward, bridging the gap between himself and Annalise. "Perhaps you’re right," he admitted, acknowledging the ramifications of his actions. "But how do we rectify this imbalance?"

Annalise met his gaze with determination. "Light and Darkness need each other. Your actual mistake was that you separated these two energies and kept them from reuniting for so long."

Then she faced the Dark energy and continued - "You are abdolutely right, any apology can never fill the depths of your heartache. What you need isn’t an apology, or a revenge."

She stretched out her arms and this time, she summoned only the Light energy residing deep within her. A sizzling rope of light energy left her palms and went straight toward the Dark energy, enveloping it in a warm cocoon. The Dark energy melted in its other half’s warmth, finally feeling complete after millennia.

But the Light energy was gone just as quickly as it came.

"No!"

The Dark energy was once again furious, almost ready to end Annalise’s life if not for the ball of light energy that she quickly summoned on her palm, causing the Dark energy to halt right before it was about to attack her.

"You can’t kill me, not because you aren’t capable enough, but because you will regret fingers so. I’m born from a fragment of your beloved light. Do you really dare to harm me?" Annalise was really playing with her life here. She in no way believed that her identity would save her from death but she had no other option but to play this card.

Despite the Dark energy not having a face, she still somehow knew what sort of feeling it was experiencing. Her words shocked it to a still before a small wisp of dark energy slowly approached it.

Esmeray was ready to protect her but Annalise stopped him. The wisp of Dark energy landed on her other palm and she felt it prodding inside her as it seeked to know if she was telling the truth.

A moment later, the wisp returned and the Dark energy spoke - "You indeed are. But even if I won’t kill, I can still kill the rest."

"You can. But I will like to make a deal with you. A better one." Annalise was now slightly confident that her idea would actually work out in the end. The Dark energy was indeed not ad sinister as they all had been considering.

"What deal? You better have a good one because I’m running out of my patience here." The warning was clear in the Dark energy’s tone and Annalise didn’t doubt its words even for a second.

"What kind of deal are you going to make? You better not offer yourself." Esmeray was on the verge of insanity.

"I’m not you. I would never do something so stupid."
