The Veil of Darkness
Chapter 389: Veil of Darkness (Part Three)

Chapter 389: Veil of Darkness (Part Three)

The now lifeless body of the former Crown Prince Aerold of the Dawn Court, fell to the ground, joining the already two dead Shadowlords. A huge ball of Dark energy enveloped the three bodies for a few moments and when it finally lifted, all three bodies were gone from there.

Annalise and Esmeray watched everything in silence, neither daring to make the slightest of noise. But if they thought staying silent would keep them from getting noticed by the figure of Dark energy, they were so wrong.

The figure turned and faced the two of them, its malevolent darkness pointed toward them along with its anger and resentment.

Esmeray slowly pulled Annalise by her arm and pushed her behind him, shielding her with his body as he stood there tall and strong, facing the wrath of the Dark energy.

"You can’t kill it." Annalise reminded the man standing in front of her, trying to understand what sort of idea he had to deal with the Dark energy.

"I know." That was all Esmeray said in response.

"Then what are you going to do?" She pressed further, not liking the fact that she was completely clueless about what Esmeray was going to do next. Not knowing meant that he had come up with something really stupid.

"I have a way to end this all." He said in such a soft tone that it only convinced Annalise further about her guess.

"Like what?"

This time, Esmeray didn’t bother to answer her, instead, he faced the figure of Dark energy that had been silently studying the two of them. "I know that you hold a grudge against me and my late mate. The two of us were indeed in the wrong when we sealed you in the Primordial Realm and escaped on our own. My mate is no longer here, but today, I’m here to offer myself to you. All I want in return is for you to return to the Primordial Realm and never attack the rest of the three Realms ever again, and in return, you can kill me at this very moment."

Not only Annalise, but even the Dark energy stared at Esmeray as if he was the dumbest person alive. What kind of deal was this?

"Do you think your life alone can fix all the wrongs you both have done to me? Your life worth nothing to me. What I want is to make you feel just as miserable and helpless as I have been feeling for all these years. Since you cherish this world so much, I will destroy this entire world and make you watch its destruction with your very own eyes." The Dark energy promised and its tendrils surged out in all four directions as if they were heading to fulfill what he just said.

Panic engulfed Annalise and she hurriedly walked forward, moving to stand next to Esmeray who tried to stop her but she completely ignored him. "Do you really believe that revenge is what you seek?"

Her sudden question pulled the attention of the Dark energy toward her and while it didn’t pull back its tendril, it did slow down a bit to focus on her. "Annalise." It whispered her name as if it had known her for a while. "You have been the most interesting thing I encountered in these three Realms. Maybe, you will be the only one whose death will make me a little sad... but... it still would not change my mind."

Annalise stared right at the Dark figure as she chose her words wisely. She knew that what she had planned could either save them all or push the Dark energy to destroy everything in the very next second. "Surprised to know that someone like me can pick your interest, however, you didn’t answer my question. Do you really believe that revenge is what you seek?"

The figure of Dark energy became bigger as it suddenly lashed out at Annalise. "Who do think you are? What do you even know?" It shouted in pure rage.

Despite the fear that was filling her from within, Annalise took in a deep breath to calm herself as she prepared to answer.

"Annalise..."

"I know what I’m doing. Trust me." Annalise tried to comfort Esmeray but she could feel that he was worried for her. Still, he decided to do what she told him - trust her.

Facing the Dark energy, she spoke - "I’m indeed no one, but... I do know your story. I know the story of your origin. I know the reason behind your resentment. I know that the Queen of Light and the King of Darkness have always regretted their decision, and... I also know that revenge is not what you really seek. Your heart doesn’t desire revenge, it’s your anger that is pushing you for the revenge."

"I don’t have a heart!" The Dark energy snarled at her, its anger only rising the more Annalise spoke, but she was nowhere near stopping.

"How can you not have a heart when you are capable of feeling so many emotions? You just said that my death will make you sad, even if only for the tiniest bit..."

The Dark energy seemed to be ready to stop her nonsense but Annalise didn’t give it the chance as she continued speaking - "... How can you not have a heart when you can hurt this much? Only a heart can hurt from losing its loved ones. You aren’t angry because you were left all alone sealed inside the Primordial Realm while the Queen of Light and King of Darkness escaped from there. You are angry because they took away the one thing you cherished the most. You aren’t angry because the Queen of Light once again sealed you inside the Seelie Realm. You are angry because she also sealed away that very same thing of yours that you were desperate to reunite with. You didn’t collude with the Dawn Prince to destroy the world, but to finally get back what you lost years ago - your light."
