Chapter 388: Veil of Darkness (Part Two)
Annalise kept her age fixed on the man while her grip tightened around the daggers. Her elements were also waiting at the surface to act immediately the moment she summoned them.
The man took a few more minutes to inspect the dead bodies of the two Shadowlords before he finally stood and turned to face Annalise. "Now, you are making me curious about your true ability. Someone who can hold the light energy within her, can’t be just a mere mortal, right?"
Annalise didn’t even bother to respond to his questions. Neither of them was interested in talking and she could tell that he was just trying to stall for time by diverting her attention through his questions.
Aerold arched his eyebrows high in surprise as well as a hint of admiration when she refused to follow his plan. Dusting off the non-existent dirt from his clothes, he stated - "I would hate to break this to you, but that light energy you are holding inside you actually belongs to me. Now, you can either choose to hand it over to me willingly, or I can just kill you and take it away on my own. Make your choice."
A smile made its way to Annalise’s lips but there was no humor in it. "If the Light energy had been yours, it would have ended up only with you. Since that never happened despite every means you used, you should just accept the bitter truth."
Aerold burst into a fit of laughter before all his humor and pretense disappeared, leaving only the darkness in him visible for the world to see. "You talk way too much." He growled from across her, his hands stretched out as he summoned his powers for the next attack.
A smirk curved one of the corners of Annalise’s lips as she responded - "Because unlike you, I know how to trick." She didn’t give him enough time to contemplate the meaning behind her words as she brought the forefingers of both her hands together to complete the spell she had been casting since the moment Aerold arrived there.
A burst of energy escaped her hands and merged with the transformation her powers ahd been secretly building under the ground where Aerold had been standing for a while. The formation came to life, taking Aerold by complete surprise and trapping him inside.
She immediately cast another spell, this one aimed at Aerold’s dark powers that recoiled the moment her spell touched them.
"Foolish woman! You can’t hurt me with the light energy. It belongs to me!" Aerold shouted from within the formation as he fought with her spell, trying to take down the formation and free himself.
Annalise just shook her head in disappointment. "You were once a dignified Prince of the Dawn Court. You could have stayed loyal and worked for the peace of your Realm and people. You would still have ruled as a benevolent King of the Dawn Court. Yet, you chose to let go of that bright future and chose to betray your own family and people. Someone with such a dark heart as yours can never deserve something so pure as Light energy, nor do you deserve to manipulate the Dark energy to gain your foolish ambition."
Aerold burst out into another fit of laughter at her words. His eyes burned dark purple with darkness surrounding him completely as he spoke in a voice that no longer sounded like his. "The Dark energy is already mine and I will snatch away the Light energy from you after killing you. I will rule this world alone and you people will die in - "
A gasp escaped Annalise’s lips as she watched in horror the scene unfolding in front of her eyes. Dark blood poured out of Aerold’s mouth as a burst of Dark energy attacked the very core of his powers, injuring him from within, but it didn’t stop there. The dark energy continued to attack Aerold, injuring him further. It didn’t stop until he was already on his knees, moments away from losing his life.
A dark figure, made of nothing but dark energy, appeared there in front of now kneeling Aerold, causing the latter to look up with all the remaining energy that was left within him.
"Y-You-" He wanted to say something to the dark figure but his body no longer supported him. He was just moments away from leaving the world he so desperately wanted to rule. His dream was coming undone right in front of his eyes. The very thing he believed would help him achieve his dream, had become the reason for his death - the Dark energy.
"No one controls me. No one can use me, not someone as unworthy as you." The Dark figure spoke in a gruff tone that sounded so harsh that Annalise had to cover her ears. She was just standing there watching the scene unfold in front of her. Never in her wildest dream, she would have expected to see the Dark energy in such a form.
She felt a warm energy right behind her, informing her about the appearance of a familiar person who materialized right behind her the very next moment.
"What are you doing here?" She asked him through the mind link, not daring to speak out loudly in case it would irritate the Dark energy further. The last thing they wanted at the moment was to rile up the already enraged Dark energy.
"I can’t let you face it alone. Besides, all this started because me and my mate failed to deal with it properly back then. I can’t pretend that I’m not responsible for solving this issue." Esmeray answered through the mind link as well.
Annalise looked over her shoulder toward the man who had chosen a weird time to wake up and fix his wrongdoings. She was about to speak when their attention was pulled back to Aerold who just received one last blow from the Dark energy.
